    I grew up golfing in the 80s. I played with an anser. I love ping putters. I have been wanting to purchase a fetch for a year or so. But I am a family man and I make do with an old blade and some lead tape. Thank you Rick for showing respect to the ping putter legacy.

    Great video and confirmed some changes I’ve made. I play off 15.2 but could not line up a putt or read a green. I stopped using a line on the ball and started doing the little legs apart walk up the putt line. Now I at least have an idea of any break and consequently feel much more confident with my putts.

    I've been using the PLD Anser for two weeks. I was worried about lack of alignment line but it hasn't been an issue. I had problems controlling pace with the 2021 Anser and this is an improvement there. I also feel like it's softer than the insert on the 2021.
    Love this putter. Especially the murdered out look at address.

    The best putting practice advise I've ever read was in Golf Digest many years ago.
    It was all about building confidence.
    You should just practice puts from more than 10ft and less than 3ft. The idea is when you put from more than 10ft your expectations of making them is low so when you do make them is builds your confidence. From 3ft and in your expectations are you should make all of them and when you do miss its easy to discount those misses. I've used this advise ever since and it really does work.
    I bought a Scotty Cameron pro platinum Del Mar 3.5 when it came out in 2001 and it's still in the bag.

    I have always thought for most part your putting from 3-10 foot was already fairly consistent, especially when your confidence is high. Fining one to snug the longer ones close and drop the few birdies in is where I think you need the confidence in a putter. Enjoyed as always. Have an awesome day

    i have this putter and absolutely love it! Opt'd for the pistol grip on the ping website which took it to the next level. So easy to control pace letting the face do the work. If you're a handsy putter with a lot of push it may not be for you. but if pendulum is your feel this is a great fit!

  • @wkndwarrior4733
    @wkndwarrior4733 2 года назад

    I went to get fit for a putter last year. I wanted a stroke lab #7. But I tried a Ping 2021 Fetch and couldn't stop dropping putts. Love the consistency of a straight ark type. The blacked out look has grown on me and just love the way the fetch frames the ball. And the Ping pistol grip is "class" with the old school Ping lettering and little Ping man! All that to say, the 2021 Ping putter went under the radar but are extremely good

    Looks like a beautifully made club. A few years ago, I concluded that milled face putters perform more reliably for me. I feel the well struck putt better and, just as important, I feel the bad putts better. So, in the end, I'm now a better putter somewhat. I also came to appreciate that (and fortunately so for me) the cost of the milled face putter mattered less than I thought it would. After prevailing on the patience and good-nature of my local Golftown staff over many weeks, I ended up buying a Wilson putter with milled face. It seemed to allow for the same distance and speed control as the Camerons i tried. Have had it ever since and I no longer lust for the SC cache nor this PLD, thankfully.

    @bobwright2967 2 года назад +41

    That was an interesting video. I, personally, couldn't do without the line on the putter. It serves MORE than one purpose (alignment),...it also is there to help you strike the ball on the "balance point" or sweet-spot of the putter. While that may not be critical on Short putts, it IS important on longer (lag) putts. On long putts off-center strikes can make the putter "Twist" and also not give you the proper acceleration (velocity) on the ball. Just my opinion, but thanks for reading it !

      I've been partial to a dot on the top bar. It gives you the center mark right next to where it is needed, but doesn't have the directional bias a line has. With my stroke that opens and closes the face, I found a line tends to smear off axis as I swing. A dot can't do that. Plus, using a line on the ball means you only have a perpendicular angle to judge without anything else to distract you, something I feel I can do better than getting 2 separated lines parallel.

    • @jessebremner5209
      @jessebremner5209 2 года назад +1

      You might be surprised to know that the alignment line is not always on the sweet spot of the putter face. It's a marketing thing, people like to see the alignment line in the middle of the blade but the sweet spot is usually inside of that closer to the heel. You're welcome.

    Bought a Scotty Futura 6m a couple weeks ago. I have always preferred the blade style but the Futura looks like the TM Spyder (or the other way around lol). I feel very confident with it. I think that's all a putter comes down too along with any other club really. Clearly results are expected with the confidence and if those results don't show on a card than the confidence will fade.

    Always enjoy your videos as they are very insightful. Many people unfortunately wouldn’t consider paying so much for a putter but would never bat an eye paying that price for a driver. I always tell people a good putter is a great investment in your game. Consider the statistics:
    Par 72 course typically has:
    4 par 3’s
    4 par 5’s
    10 par 4’s
    Allowing 2 putts/hole = GIR
    36/72 = 50% of shots
    Typical par 72 course has 14 fairways (2 par 3’s/side)
    14/72 = 19.4% of shots with driver
    Other shot (irons)
    22/72 = 30.6%. Fifty percent of the game is putting.

    I used the original Ping Anser for many years. Finally gave it to my godson, along with my Zing2 clubs. Bought a Scottie Cameron Newport 2, and love it. You need a putter for every hole, and if it gives you confidence and pleasure, go for it. Watching your videos, Rick, you have a tendency to “poke” your puts when under pressure, rather than “stroke”. The pokes don’t work …

    Great video and review! I'm not sure the price point will out weigh the help it will produce on the green as I have 4 premium putters in the garage and I am now using an OLD Ping B60 with 8 grams of lead tape on the back side for weight as I felt the putter had too much of a tinge sound and was too light. Putting is basically a fell stroke not an equipment stroke, IMHO. Keep up the good work!!

    That's funny because I've had the same problem with syncing up my putter and ball lines together in the past. My solution was pretty similar to yours. I ended up drawing 2 lines on the ball in a plus sign ( + ) so I can line up to the hole with 1 line and square up my putter with the other line. It has improved my putting tremendously. I haven't tried it yet but I'm assuming a "T" shape would work as well.

They do make some difference as far as pushing and pulling shots because of the design difference. I used to wonder why someone would spend $450 on a putter but the quality and feel is different when you step up to that level. I traded a Callaway Mavrik driver I wasn't using so I made out well. I'm still not sure I would spend that much on a putter but I see why people do after using it for the first time this past weekend.

    I think i will stick with my £35 Ping B60 putter , it has served me very well over the last 8 yrs , Remember the putter is only a tool , if the person doesn't put the practice in then it doen't matter if it's a £10 or £1000 putter your still not going to be able to play well

    So today I visited a golf shop for the first time ever with a just looking mindset. Obviously I went to the putter section and tried a lot of putter. I started with the Scotty Camerons because even as a Newbie I heard a lot about them, they were nice but I got the feeling that they look better on video and pictures than they do in real life. The first time I picked up the PLD I was immediately hooked it felt heavier but at the same time high grade. I’d felt like when you come from a Samsung and pick up an iPhone Pro. My puts in the golf shop felt nice and I found myself coming back to the PLD after all the other putters I used in that session. So obviously I had to buy it 😅 looking forward to see how it copes in real life

    I am happy with my Odyssey 2-ball mark putter bought less than £50 some 10 years ago. On my pro's advice I had the length reduced by inch and half as I am short in height. On another pro's advice I got a 2 m practice mat at home.So, I daily practice at home. Works nicely as a good pendulum. I had added two yellow stick on's to the white balls and drawn a line to line up properly at 90 deg to the face. I have seen another golfer also drawing such a line. I do very long puts with 4 balls and then close in for short puts before going on the course. Usually 25% success/3 puts. Rarely 2 or 1 put. Thanks for your briefing. I am not sure I want to spend £400 on a new putter. Expensive putters do look nice.

    Last year I started facing the ball with no line or logo up while putting and I think I have had better results. I prefer aiming the entire ball to my target or intended line. I would be interested in these new Ping putters however my Piper 2 still seems to work for me.

    I have an original ping anser putter which was the first expensive puttet that I bought. I used it for a long time but not any more but it would be really interesting to see how the original compares with the new version. I suspect the difference isn’t that much. It’s also interesting to see that they’ve gone back to the original putter grip which of course Tiger Woods has used since he was a kid.

    Hi Rick, there are so many putters on the market. I am a good putter but always struggled with alignment. I went for a putter fitting and got offered two different putters one of them was a Taylormade bandon #1 it was not expensive at all I was playing the Scotty Cameron newport 2.5 before hand and I will never look back. Look into the Taylormade TP cheaper putters they are really really good.

    Rick give the PLD DS72 a few rolls. Hovland helped design it with our staff (I'm a Ping engineer). It's going to give you a little extra forgiveness, more consistent speed off the face than the Anser. Also, by the way, you can come in for a fitting here in Phoenix any time. Just give us a shout. You can customize that mill on the face, opt for a flat face or even an insert. Great videos as always. Cheers!

    Putters are my favorite thing to test, more than drivers and far more than irons or wedges. I definitely want to test these, but I think it's more marketing gimmick than anything. How much difference is there btwn a PLD putter and their 2021 Ping putters? Can't be $200+ more. I'm also more into testing putters from putter specific companies. Callaway bought their way into it so Odyssey is still a putter specific brand, but even they have some gimmicky ones with all their faces and whatnot. I like these new putter lines where that's all they really do, focusing heavily on putter design which gives them a leg up imo. You've gone back and forth with an Evnroll yourself, and so far it's probably the best putter I've ever used. Easy.
    Also, Scotty's are like the Supreme of putters. Just a name only. Sure they feel nice but you can get the same thing for hundreds and hundreds less.

    I putt like you are learning to. I tried to use a line on my ball and I simply could not. Its much easier for me to pick a spot 6" in front of the ball and just roll the ball over that. I guess you'd call that feel but that's how I putt and its been consistent for me. I feel like it keeps it really simple.
    My Scotty has a line but I don't really use it or look at it.
    Theres something slightly "chunky" about the Anser compared to the Newport 2. I cant put my finger on it, but thats how it feels. When I played in HS over 20 years ago, I played with an Anser.

    Good review. I’ve been playing golf for decades. Grew up on Ping putters then went away from it to Scotty Camerons & Bettinardi. They had a premium look, feel & sound to them. I see what Ping is doing here. It’s been proven in experiments that even if you rolled the golf ball with perfect speed and line, the ball does not automatically go in. You will still see subtle misses, lip outs, etc. so that leaves look, feel and finish. This is where Ping has always lacked in their putters. We all know Ping putters by the ping name stamp but they need to have a finish and sound like no other. Something that makes you fall in love with it immediately and want to own it no matter what. I haven’t found a Ping putter yet that gives me that euphoric feeling. I’ll try these PLD putters as soon as they’re in stock and judge for myself.
