This is my number one favorite video of all time on youtube...and I share it a lot when I am explaining some of these processes to friends and customers being that I am a screen printer and graphic designer who also does pre press. I have been printmaking since 1995.
screen printing teacher here; i cant believe those screens still register! ive had to come up with all sorts of diy jigs for when students wanted to print on decks. theres still a demand for the hand printed graphics. most of the kids have told me the transfer decks do wear differently and i told them its probably less ink on the PET film. now i know! Great video!! itd be cool to see transfers printed with the colors in reverse order.
As a sreen prinitng that has been printing for a ong while I rolled my eyes when I saw this. I am surprised buy what I learned. Very interesting process.
so bummed that we didn't get to see the arrow multi printer that is still in use after all these years. The only view of the classic press (early to mid 80's) was in the background. Would love to see that press in action it would remind me of my youth (First Job) working on one of those presses
From an exe screen printing view...this video was super accurate lil. Especially that part about getting so loaded from the fumes you'd have to go get drunk on lunch too feel normal again🤣🤣 the first print shop I worked in had guiness in the vending machine 🤣🤣🤣 this place had the same kinda vibe as that old dirty shop I started in when I was 18 making shirts and I love it!
i want to work there sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad
sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. i took the tour this summer and it looks like the best place to work besides skate warehouse haha
awesome. thanks for sharing this insight. it would be cool to see a board getting done from start to finish. i would like a hand printed board more. i think the imperfections would be cool. why dont you promote it as hand printed ?
Hi. I was just wondering where does NHS an other skate-companies get there T-shirts from before they put there print on them? The quality of the T-shirts are a lot better with skate brands. I'm trying to start my own T-shirt company
gluing the mesh on a flat frame usually is done with a stretcher for the mesh, placed on the glued frame and then sprayed with glue activator to cure it. id also like to see how they stretch a convex/concave screen
Just stumbled across this video and I haven't sorted through all of the comments. I apologize if this question has been asked and answered previously but I'm wondering if NHS uses a custom exposure unit to burn designs onto these 3d screens? I'm accustomed to printing posters and t-shirts and I know how important it is to have optimal contact between transparencies and screens when exposing. Just trying to wrap my brain around how flat transparencies are adhered and exposed onto these 3D screens. Any input is appreciated!
bisket2003 Unsure, unsure, I don't think so - but hit them up with any questions and they'll be happy to provide more details: www.nhs-inc.com/contact/ Let us know what you learn!
I love hearing people who have worked a job for decades explain what they do. This dude knows his stuff!
For someone who wants to get into this business this is so helpful
Thats one of the best informative videos about skateboard graphics i have ever seen, Thanks Skate Warehouse!
That's a high compliment, thanks Rodrigo! Stay tuned for more

I like how he said "photosynthesis material" instead of photo-sensitive... like eh, close enough haha
"solulate", i know what he means though haha. dont need to know the terms to know how its done
its the fumes from the 80s fuck it
We're not NaSah scientists

This is a gem! Thank you for this advice. Fantastic energy!
Here's a question for you. The Santa Cruz reissues are the original screens used to print the heat transfers for the re issues? Thanks
Awesome, actually I wasn't a big fan about the transfer but now I know the reason and I think different about it
It would be tight to work here!
Kruidvat steeds verrassend altijd voordelig

Photosynthesis material? Lol. Great video.
Will regular dtf transfer film work?
Hi. I was just wondering where does NHS an other skate-companies get there T-shirts from before they put there print on them? The quality of the T-shirts are a lot better with skate brands. I'm trying to start my own T-shirt company
Santa Cruz Skateboards are the best
Pocket Pistols 👍🏻 ...and still beautifully screen printed at Screaming Inc..
Do you print your own heat transfer sheets with the graphics? Or do you order them and just heat press them onto the boards?
WHere did you learn how to make those?do you have a background in art or was it just an invention out of seeing the money that could be made?
seriously amazing video! so much awesome info
Do a tour with crailtap please!
that, my friend, is a great idea. Sounds like we're doing a Girl / Chocolate demo here at SLO park in March, we'll see what we can do!
How they bunched the silk on the wooden frame? you would have to upload a video to you tube users to see.
gluing the mesh on a flat frame usually is done with a stretcher for the mesh, placed on the glued frame and then sprayed with glue activator to cure it. id also like to see how they stretch a convex/concave screen
Which companies have boards made in canada and mexico?
is it ok to know what type of ink was used for printing boards?..
Awesome HISTORY!!
Can you share the name of the heat transfer machine in the video & where it can be found online? Thanks.
Wow, awesome explanations
I'd cop a bunch of those sweet green blanks.
Imagine all that in a 1 bedroom. Woooweee!
They show old way in Powell peralta 1, I think
I learned a lot. Thanks guys!

3 years later....
use plexiglass on bottom of screen and use clamps to keep the film pressed up nice and tight
Where is the factory in Wisconsin?
Is there a place I can get my graphic/art work printed for me?
amazing video
how do you expose a screen that is that shape??
Thank you, thank u so much for this!
You say you print some graphics using UV printers. How is that done? Arent UV printers flat? How does it print round the kick and nose?
+Corey Shepherd They print the Heat Transfers on UV printers. The sheets themselves are flat, then they are heat transferred to the decks.
+Will Correa
What type of heat transfer glue do they use on the transfers
Skate topia !!!!😊😊😊😊
Hi, nice video,
what kind of auto press for shirts do you have? I saw one behind your back in 6:00 minute in this video,
thanks
Looks like an M&R
how about griptape, is the same process?
What transfer tape was used for graphic design?
@2:03 Got you! :punches in arm:
What skateboard factory in Wisconsin?
Whats the name of the transfer film? What inks are being used? (plastisol?) Do the boards get pretreated with anything to make the inks stick?
bisket2003 Unsure, unsure, I don't think so - but hit them up with any questions and they'll be happy to provide more details: www.nhs-inc.com/contact/ Let us know what you learn!
Can someone work with you and get customs made for resale? how would that work ?
does anyone know where to get heat transfer pictures?
if you need 1 or 2pcs, try ebay, if you need mass production, find a heat transfer manufacture, tell me quantity to get the best price.
Where are Jim and Derrick?
How does someone go about getting a job in the industry?
Dang. It would be so sick to visit nhs.
What is that machine called?
