The point of the video is that hybrids are difficult to drive well for lack of audible feedback from the drivetrain. It was not to brag about how well they perform in the snow.
I drove my fwd stock escape in heavy colorado snow for years. That gas engine has no issues and is plenty powerful. I do serious 4x4 roads and never have issues. I do have all terrain tires. This video does the escape a disservice.
I had an AWD too. Great cars. The purpose of the video was to demonstrate that the FWD HYBRID was an entirely different animal than the AWD V6 model that was awesome.
The point of this video is that the HYBRID drivetrain behaves differently than the gas drivetrain. It is nearly impossible to slowly give it gas (since the engine is not running) and have it move gently up the slope. Having the battery in the back adds weight to the back partially negating the weight bias to the front wheels.
Kevin Boyles. The point is to haul cargo as fast and as cheaply as possible. The Hybrid FWD has the same interior space, goes nearly as fast, but gets nearly double the fuel mileage.
I was wondering why the back wheel were not engaging....then I saw the title, FWD. good luck with that one. I have an escape, no off-road beast, but my 4wd would have crawled through that pretty easily.
I was considering getting a FWD Ford Escape. But after seeing this I think the AWD is what I will be getting. I get quite a bit of snow in Illinois in winter this would not be the best.
@Danny7930 He has a 3.0 v6 also. You can see him in "Escrape pushing snow" and "Carl Jantz Instructing Rich Rudman on Snow Wheeling E-Scrape." I offer him some M+S tires to try, but he keeps using those Michelins.
@VMX540fan in the future i would suggest SLOWLY giving it gas not quickly so you avoid wheel spin fwd cars do good in snow since the engine is directly above the drive tires i have a fwd focus and drove down a gravel road in michigans u.p. with about eight inches of snow doing about forty mph
May I ask how you mounted your cb radio? I just got this car today and am loooking to install my Cobra 29LTD Classic but im at a loss becasue my 2004 Ford Escape had extra room inbetween the center console is lost due to the new placement of the shifter. Thanks, any help is appresciated!
Combine good winter tires with AWD and you won’t be getting so much wheelslip. FWD is cheaper for maintenance and fuel mileage but not having four points of tractive force can only spell trouble on changing grades.
Well considering they were going up a steep incline in a hybrid, FWD is just fine. Nine times out of ten a FWD SUV with low PSI'd tires can go anyplace a AWD/4WD can with fully inflated tires. The main reason people buy a FWD SUV is cost, they're cheaper, and sometimes save money on fuel. Another reason this Escape was struggling, was the fact it had all seasons instead of snow/mud tires.
Ford escapes are worthless. But also what Ford isn't worthless.... I had to find a video to proved to my mother in law that her ford escape was trash and this set the mood about her "SUV". We're in ohio with 4-6 inches of snow and could barely get it back to her house.

He WAS on a road.
It is a "run what you got" kind of thing.
He has a deal in the works on an early Bronco. I hope he gets it.

the tires really make a difference i bet that with all terrain tires the car would have just zoom past the snow
The little engine that could :)

I raced a hybrid with my escape and absolutely smoked it. You can't compare the two as far as power lol. But I'd take the mileage over the 3.0 any day

He was getting 'educated'.
@VMX540fan
The V6 Escape is called ESCRAPE.
Jeepzjfan2 uploaded video of it at "Escrape trying washout hill".
Thats y im sticking with awd. Even tho awd cost more money im sticking with it

PSI is good to know, thank you
@VMX540fan
He got a V6 4x4 Escape instead of the Bronco.
Yes, video is coming.

are you a yooper?
What the... A FWD Escape in the snow?!
This is SAD.
Plug in??? Mine doesn't need to be plugged in.
uhh... Get winter tires? I have winter tires on my escape, just bought brand new touring tires gonna change em this weekend, but i have a 3.0 v6
@f2the18
I concur.

Where's your tire chains
Wait he's not using winter tires?.
Need snow tires

What's the point if buying an SUV if you're gonna buy a shitty FWD version? You want 4WD in the snow especially if the vehicle is heavy!

Are these winter tyres?
All season.
This car is in bad shape, but my car runs well in snow

It was new. All we did to it was install the CB radio.
