  • In this video I remove the main drive gear and bearing, then proceed with disassembly and cleaning of the transmission gear set.
Parts and equipment bought for the job.

I bought this set of snap ring pliers on amazon but would have spent more on a better set if I had to do it over again.

Man ! I appreciate your video , even is slowly, I can understand some fact about that bearing and for the transmission case . I use a strong wood , and over I put the steel bar ! Then I use an electrical heater , and I control the temp with a electronic device , to not cross 90 Celsius . And was come out no time ! Very very easy! Thank you

thank you joe, after watching your success it gave me the confidence to go ahead and work on my 2010 dyna, the 2nd gear dog ring has wore out and now slip and jumps , I have ordered the pulley nut socket, the main shaft race removal tool and a big pair of snap ring pliers, I will start the transmission work in 2 weeks and make it a project, no rush since it getting cold , I really did not want anybody else wrenching on my bike,

Thanks for the comment alan, the hardest part was removing the main drive gear.

I was running syn gear oils our 94 Ultra. Changed to dino gear oil of same viscosity, now tranny is much quieter when shifting and much easier to find neutral. Changed from syn 20w50 in engine to dino oil same viscosity and now it's much quieter!

How does the spacer on the main shaft come off, i removed the seal , but is it actually pressed on? Im more familiar with Evo 5 speed the spacer just slides out and install the quad seal, im trying to reseach it online , till the manual gets here. Edit: ok i just found a full video on 6 speed the spacer is apart of the inner race on the main bearing per Mr Kevin Baxter’s Harley transmission rebuild on a budget

the side your heating (which absolutely should not be done ) is the side the spanner should be turned clockwise to drive the inner drive gear into the tranny case leaving the outer bearing to pulled out the side your heating toward you .. i applaud you giving it a go but clearly there's no prior understanding or plan on how this is to be done ..you may have annealed that drive gear with heat making it soft

I've seen a lot of professional videos where they doing the same thing , just don't let the shaft get too hot
