they probably jus retcon it, like how chang became gay even though he had a wife, or how britta went from being level headed to obsessive idiot and a debbie downer. the writers do have an overall plot for the story but the scripts are written improvised.
An adult baby that just sometimes do or say something weird. This chang just flat out does insane crap just because. Maybe it changed after his changnesia
I used to think he was great but a bit much, then they toned him way down after season 4 but i feel like they managed to get him back on track in season 5 and 6 but he really did not have a subplot or a character arc
Sadly for me that is the entire theme with Community: In S1, everything was a bit odd, a bit crazy, but still..."realistic". Chang was just an agent of chaos, that weird professor you have to endure. But as the show progresses and the occassional oddity became the bare minimum, that changed aswell.
I feel like having Chang be a fake teacher was such a bad move for his character. Because even though he was mildly psychotic, he still seemed to know what he was doing.
He went too far with this improv, he was told to tone it down because the show wasn't supposed to be this loud hahaha. They kept this in and reshot it for the angled reactions. Love this man!
If they ever remake or adapt Remo Williams as a movie or series they need Ken Jeong as Chiun with old man makeup. He can play a man with an extreme ego and the physical ability to back it up. Plus he's a doctor so he probably already knows the Sinanju skills like stopping a persons heart with his pinkie.
@@littlereddragon I absoluty agree. The show is absurd and that's why I love it, but the thing that makes It so great is how the carachters always react in realistic ways to absurd situations (evein during paintball war, etc, the actors and their reactions remain beliavable). They just brittated her.
If this scene was written and performed today it would be 100% serious and dramatic, it would be all about how stereotypes are bad and anyone that stereotypes is a fascist. Remarkable how much comedy and shows have changed.
Every once in a while, a student will come up to me and ask “Señor Chang, why do you teach Spanish?”. Just like that. Why do YOU teach Spanish. Why not math, why not photography, while not martial arts. Well, surely it should be in my nature to instruct you on something that’s ancient and secret, like building a wall you can see from outer space. Well, I’ll tell you why I teach Spanish. It is none of your business. And I don’t want to have any conversations about what a mysterious, inscrutable man I an. Ohehehehe, ohoohoohoohoo. I AM A SPANISH GENIUS! EN ESPAÑOL, MY NICKNAME IS EL TIGRE CHINO!! Because my knowledge will bite your face off!
Ya know for a fake spanish teacher Chang is a pretty good Spanish Teacher.
He sounded like he knew a decent amount of Spanish
Sesame Street taught him well
At one point he was teaching them klingon

No he's not.
Ken Joeong owned this scene. What an actor!
He even improvised the el tigre chino scene
I'm so glad that this channel exists

man I miss when chang was an agent of chaos, an unhinged maniac. In the later seasons they just turn him into an adult baby

It’s amazing how people in the classroom keep a straight face while listening to the monologue :)
Well, there are a few raised eyebrows.
@@chrisjohnston4445 I like the expression on the girl sitting in front of Jeff.
Well it’s the first day. You never know how serious a community college professor is on the first day!
I never noticed that the back of the cards was actually the italian flag... 😯
That makes the remark about hands even more accurate and funny.!!! 😂
And “hands folks, it’s 90% of Spanish” is more of an Italian stereotype, further underscoring the fact that Chang is a fraudulent Spanish teacher.
@@mcolemanxc16 lollll I always found it funny that they said “hasta luego” with an Italian accent now it’s even better 😅😂
he starts off so warm and personal then takes a hard turn i think thats why its so funny
I've never seen anyone point out one of the best lines in this imo, "I'll tell you why I teach Spanish: It is none of your business"
In a later episode... "And it's nobody's business, but I ate my twin _in utero."_
Possibly the best monologue in the show's 6 season run.
I think it's the best introduction of a character of all time in any sitcom
My favorite TV show of all time.
same
El tigre chino. What a character, gracias señor Chang!!
What’s really funny is that in season 5 Chang is a math teacher
"You do the math"
0:43 this is the first (of many) hint about how chang is mentally insane😂😂😂
I love the Italian flag under the blackboard and even on the cards
I love the juxtaposition Ken Jeong has mastered from "absolute crazy madman" to "calm and collected." #andamovie
This is probably my favorite community scene ever
So so so many. Hard to pick. But definitely the greatest introduction of a character in tv history to me lol.

Remember when Britta was a stereotypical badass girl instead of an airhead?
remember when Chang wasn't actually mentally deranged?
I hate how, they mentioned she was in the peace corps in the pilot and they never bring it up again.
