This bowl is gorgeous! At first I was frustrated and disappointed with all that beautiful wood systematically disappearing... until the inside was revealed. What a breathtaking result. For over 30 years, I've done a craft that starts out with nothing but a plain piece of plastic with hundreds of holes in it. It's called plastic canvas. I can always see a myriad of possibilities, but it doesn't show it's true personality until yarn (one or more colors) has been passed through and through those holes multiple times. Then the pattern finally emerges. I've had students who look at the beginning canvas and then at the ending result and say, "Oh my goodness! I didn't realize that's what it was going to look like." So I can now understand the beginning and ending of your work coming together so magnificently. But, your work also fascinates me. I watch other woodturners and realize some are doing a great job, but they don't seem to really enjoy it like you do, or get involved with what they're doing as thoroughly as you do. It's pure joy watching you work, wondering how the current journey will end, and yet knowing it will be educationally worth the time, and end with something gorgeous! Thank you for letting us watch your work, fun and process.

@Laura Musselman Latronico I would suggest checking with your local community College as a start. I'm a carpenter with over 25 years in the trade and know dick all about lathe work, but do know that it's a highly skilled trade that should be taught by a professional. Anything that spins that fast can hurt you before you even realize something's wrong, so I'd recommend against self-teaching or just figuring it out. But it is absolutely an art form, and I've found that true craftsmen are usually willing to pass along their knowledge. Good luck!

I’ve often enjoyed the beauty of a natural edge on some of these projects, it just can’t be replicated. While watching you create another stunning piece, a challenge of your abilities came to mind. What if…..you were to leave the natural edge yet carving it in such a way at to appear that the upper edge is melting over. For example, the inner surface of the bowl comes up and curves to the outside and down, continuing downward until the natural bark edge. I hope I explained that visual correctly. LOL. Would be amazing.
