Peru, the Hell of the Peaks | Deadliest Journeys

  • Peru. From North to South, the Andes Cordillera, with peaks over 6000 meters. Between these mountains, a network of roads, the most dangerous in Latin America. Connecting the Pacific Ocean to the Amazon rainforest is a feat. In this country, each year, more than 3000 people die there. . Twice a week, Juan Carlos takes up a challenge. Deliver without any breakage, a shipment of eggs from the Pacific coast to Yungay, in the heart of the Andes. He has no choice, he must take the Canyon del Pato. A track full of ruts and potholes, bordered by impressive ravines. Just like Pedro, with his cement truck, who also has to cross the highest passes of the Cordillera Blanca. For three days, far from the big cities, he struggles with a succession of mechanical breakdowns on a hostile road. Precipices do not frighten him. He relies on God, just like these thousands of Indians, who each year go to the greatest pilgrimage in Latin America, the procession of the Senor of Quoylloriti. Insensitive to cold and fatigue, Indians of all ages, a cross on their backs, stuffed with amulets, climb a mountain over 5000 meters above sea level, to collect the protection of the gods. For 5 days and 5 nights, in minus 10 degrees, to the sound of bewitching music, they danced and prayed until they were exhausted.

All you guys are GREAT on the road! When I have drive through the State, South to North, I get between two truckers driving together - in the opposite lane - and stay there until I reach my destination. They slow down and wait for me, if I get stuck on a toll or whatever, whatever they do, I follow suit. That's just it. Especially from midnight till dawn - You guys are the best!! Thank you👍🏻❤

I cant get enough of these shows. I remember when i was a child in the Philippines I was in a bus on a one car lane up a steep mountain. Now that im an adult in America, im all, they would never allow that over here! But the drive to make a living will make us do crazy, to us at least, things. Im sure we do normal to us but crazy to others too.

I loved to watch this documentary. I would lilke to see much, much more about the people in the Amazonas and along the Amazonas River, especially the First Nation Peoples (the so called "Indians). I hope you will create more documentaries about this large area which is such an intricate part of our world.
Thank you for madking and sharing this episode with us viewers!... :)
    ............
    PS.
On a side note: I've always wondered what was up with the hats that the women are wearing. They're very obviously not original hats of their original culture, and that is why I've been so curious about what was behind them wearing them. I've been wondering for decades, whenever I saw pictures or documentaries about the parts of the world where women are wearing these hats... nobody ever mentioned why, until now.
