Must say, you've got the right attitude. I see other RUclipsrs react to this and just have the "oh well, we suck" reaction. You're one in few who are genuinely passionate.
As already mentioned, Rugby in SA is more than just a sport. It's a culture. We give our toddlers Rugby balls for Christmas and then raise them on a diet of beef and potatoes. Carrots and spinach are for pudding.
We are taught from a young age how to pass, tackle and take hits. Rugby is not just a sport here in SA, it's a culture. You should check out some of the South African school boy rugby, that's the key to international success. Once the US starts developing rugby at elementary school level the same way we do, you guys will have a tier one team in 10 - 15 years. Some of the school you can check out are Paarl Boys High, Paarl Gymnasium, Grey College, Oakdale, Grey (Port Elizabeth), and Paul Roos Gymnasium.
💯 bro. Rugby is a way of life not a sport that you get into to earn some money. It’s not about money it’s a way of life taught from a young age! The love for the sport and especially your team mates is all that matters!!!!
I went to go watch my ex's nephew play his first season of rugby. He was like 7 I think. It was my first time seeing that age group and it was the funniest thing I have ever seen on the field. Almost every play ended up in a maul situation 😅 And the games were so well supported too, decent crowds.
American "sports" are a joke and everyone knows it. Baseball and hand-egg both suffer the American virus which is commercialization. A regular hand-egg match consists of 83% commercials.. Take football or Rugby and see how much commercial DURING the game there is.. I'd say close to absolutely none, though I have seen some handball where they do split-screen during timeout for commercial(silent ones, we still get to hear the refs during timeout). I don't like it but they never stop showing the match so that's at least good.
To be fair.... the Springboks are most probably the most physically challenging team for any international team to play let alone a Tier 2 nation. The scoreboard is not always an accurate reflection of how well or poorly a team has played.... so don't be so hard on the US Rugby Team. As the sport gains popularity in the US the level of play is bound to improve....
We should not compare a baby in diapers with a 26 year old in their prime.......its just not fair....and with the japan situation, we got caught with our pants down, it happens to everyone.
As a South African we know that USA doesn't focus on rugby from school days, and don't hear much about the club scene. Japan has poured money into rugby for years. Club rugby they get top players around the world to come play. This leads to having the best rugby minds in the country training locals.
Bro, I love the content but I'm sorry for this. As a South African watching the US team and an American reacting to this, I was laughing my arse off the whole time XD
Bro, good for America, getting out there and playing Rugby. I'm from SA and I'll tell you something, every lost game teaches you how to be a better player and a better sportsman. The outpouring of love this year and support for the Springboks from America this year made me emotional man. Hats off to you guys, you will only get better and better!
Your reaction encompasses the reason why other countries love this sport so much. We all love vicariously winning I guess. Love the channel. Keep it up bro.

I just subscribed in anticipation of your reaction to tomorrows game. All the best from NZ. Oh, don't get pissed off, it's people like you who will get Rugby moving in the US and then world watch out.
For the USA doing better (although they don't start off well), their match against Scotland in Houston 2018 is a good watch. That was actually a good year for US rugby. Sadly the World Cup in 2019 was a disaster, they didn't perform at all and went home with four defeats and the least tries of any team in the competition. And in qualifying for the next World Cup, they lost over two legs to Uruguay (to be fair Uruguay are the No.2 side in south America. beat Fiji in 2019 and are improving rapidly) so will have to go through more playoffs to qualify (which they should, but you can't be sure). Part of the issue is the Eagles recently have rarely play matches with teams on their level. Ideally competitive ones, though those have been hard to come by in the last few years. Hopefully the Americeas Rugby Championship will restart properly, but there's very little the USA can learn from being thrashed by New Zealand (their next match) or tours where the play England and Ireland and get heavily beaten (as they did this summer). Winning close matches with teams with less prestige but comparable quality would be a lot more useful for developing players. Sadly I think there's a certain arrogance that the USA is a big country and should be playing the big teams even if that means frequent heavy defeats.
The problem is the USA doesn't invest nearly as much in rugby as we do. I'm not just talking about money. We already start developing players in school. If you have South Africans suddenly playing NFL, you'd see the same result, only it would be American teams running over us. It's like expecting an MMA fighter to beat a boxer at boxing or vice versa. Not gonna happen. The USA simply doesn't have a strong enough rugby culture yet.
Many retired rugby players went on to play in the NFL, it's really not that difficult to understand if you know how to play rugby and have some ball skills.
🤣🤣🤣 Man, u made my day by ur reaction 😂,I'm South African broa bt the way u react it made me laugh than being happy, wat makes is that u c the levels of the play,& u totally know that USA wasn't gonna stand a chance, I won't blame USA for the lost bcz they have no much experience about the game, same as USA soccer team is very weak, bt I don't blame em I only blame the USA sport management, they didn't give the Americans the opportunity to persuade on sport activities like cricket , soft ball, ect, soccer team & rugby is the new thing to them, they use to only watch it not playing it
I know how you feel watching your team being 'bare arsed' (not scoring). Always following teams that are at the top. Imagine following a team where you had to wait 43 years between, being in the crowd, to see them win a premiership again. That teaches you toughness and resilience in adversity.
I think the fact that all USA sports like NFL, NBA etc. are played within the USA and not challenged on an international level makes a large difference - so you may be good in the US, but not necessarily in the world.
If America hires a good coach to start a program that focuses from high school through to pro leagues, they would dominate. It may however take 5 to 10 years...
I think the separation of elite and other teams is slowing down the progress of other teams. There is a separation between the top teams (maybe top 10) and other teams in all years except for the RWC year. And that divide is massive and this shows in the results. There needs to be a way to improve those teams players. Maybe inclusion in high level tournaments like Super Rugby or Heineken Champions Cup, or more tests between the two groupings
Even including the national teams in some of the club level competitions would be good. USA playing in the URC with the SA super rugby sides and some of the Welsh, Irish and Scottish clubs would help immensely. That's basically what the Jaguares were prior to Covid in the old Super Rugby competition. Can be grueling for a small player pool but might help expand interest in the US and also give them some exposure to decent ongoing club level games.
"The South African team was stacked in 2015" The All Blacks: Best kicker in history ( Dan Carter) 2 time player of the year (Beauden Barrett) The best center combo ever (Ma'a Nonu & Conrad Smith) Richie McCaw, The franks brothers, Kieran Read, Prime (Julian Savea) The best ever halfback (Aaron Smith) and the one of the best backs to ever play the game (Ben Smith) and theres still more
Jerome Kaino, and two of the best locks to ever play for New Zealand both in form, Keven Mealamu... Even Sonny Bill was in Prime form and was not close to a starter for this team
True fan hurts when their team loses. You my friend are a true USA fan, and rightly so. Some day the Eagles will be up there with the Rugby Greats. Just give it time. Awesome reaction though, keep'em coming.
Rugby in SA is like football in Brazil, if one of your teammates was injured during a game and wanted a replacement, you could just stop any guy from the street for replacement and he'll deliver.
Bro, they were trolling you when they told you to watch this. When you opened with “I don’t want it to be 100-0 or nuthin” I’m like “oh, he doesn’t know”.
Bro, ZA are like the Lakers of Rugby. We win a cup every 3 championships. And to your point, if you got that top tier talent, wich goes to Baskteball, Hockey, NFl, etc. going into Rugby with the money backing it up, USA would be right up there, no doubt. People have been saying it for years, USA is a sleeping giant.
Rugby is alot about skill and mindset and tactics. You could take you best NFL players and they'd get trashed by a actually rugby team it's not just about size and speed.. It's about skill.. And most importantly heart, pride and respect for the game.. Something Rugby has heaps of.. Obviously vice versa a rugby team would be nearly useless vs a pro football team.
Go for it mate!..You got the right attitude!..But you only get better with time, and experience..It will come! Right now, your kittens in amongst the lions!..Rugby is growing around the world rapidly, it's an olympic sport now..You have to go into the high country, find some players whose knuckles drag on the ground, smothered in hair and grunt a lot!..Have them strategically shaved and into rugby kit, rumour is, thats what we've all done!..You can always pick a rugby player, we've all got bent noses and no front teeth!
With the success of Major League Rugby in the USA I reckon the USA team will be much better by the next world cup. Playing alongside experienced international players will have helped them learn. This last season of MLR was really good, the teams improved so much as the season progressed.
I think it will be simualr to Cougars or Italy, it will develop over time, but still be vulnerable to funding / politics. Cananda had issue too. They could have been much further on but the structure has made it hard for them.
Most schools in South Africa make you take 2 sports compulsory. It’s usually rugby and cricket or soccer for the guys. Meaning our guys start playing from grade 1 (6 years old)
Shout out from South Africa, I think the best thing for USA is too play and train against the world's Best. Come join us in the champions league. Hope to see USA play in a semi or even final one day against the mighty Boks or even the Powerful All blacks. Comaan eagles time to spread your wings and fly.
I am proudly South African. If there is any emerging rugby nation which can completely domenate the scene, given a proper institutionalisation of the sport nationally, it is the USA. The overall athletisism, depth of sporting talent and passion they show in local sporting events could make them the new team to beat, should they apply enough effort to build the sport. The main thing is, too much money has already gone into Baseball, Basketball, NFL etc and I am not sure whether the guys on top would want to jeopordise the income of cash cows by developing a new sport to the top level. Only time will tell, but the sleeping giant was poked in both world wars, and what happened is history.

Oct 24th???
@@robocop3961 Yes next weekend.
Lol you were mad mad 😂😂😂😂 love it that was funny go Bokke 2023 💪🏽🇿🇦❤
Watching for the first time and already into the first part of the video and I’m LOL when you mention Beast! I kinda already know I’m gonna love this reaction! 🤣🤣🤣 Proudly SA 🇿🇦
its so good to see an American with some knowledge in regards to rugby
I just subscribed in anticipation of your reaction to tomorrows game. All the best from NZ. Oh, don't get pissed off, it's people like you who will get Rugby moving in the US and then world watch out.
Love your vids . Glad you joined the rugby family.
I'm subscribing bc you know our whole team 😳😳 also in my opinion USA has been improving
Looking like these USA guys couldn't beat our springbok school teams
Sad, but true. We would rather play American Football. I myself am starting to really get into Rugby. ( Watch not play )
Many retired rugby players went on to play in the NFL, it's really not that difficult to understand if you know how to play rugby and have some ball skills.
This vid is good but your reaction is the best...loved this thanks day made.
Watched a few "Americans react" vids and this is the best one cos of your passion dude.
🤣🤣🤣 Man, u made my day by ur reaction 😂,I'm South African broa bt the way u react it made me laugh than being happy, wat makes is that u c the levels of the play,& u totally know that USA wasn't gonna stand a chance, I won't blame USA for the lost bcz they have no much experience about the game, same as USA soccer team is very weak, bt I don't blame em I only blame the USA sport management, they didn't give the Americans the opportunity to persuade on sport activities like cricket , soft ball, ect, soccer team & rugby is the new thing to them, they use to only watch it not playing it
you cant compare a team that has over a century of rugby history to one thats just started to take interest
Love the passion!! This is a real world series!!
Japan had like 4 South African born players 🤣
Best reaction! Thanks for the respect brother 👊
I know how you feel watching your team being 'bare arsed' (not scoring). Always following teams that are at the top.
Imagine following a team where you had to wait 43 years between, being in the crowd, to see them win a premiership again.
That teaches you toughness and resilience in adversity.
In 2023 still watching this video man please come to south Africa and watch rugby live
Japan do the basics well and have been playing sevens for years, they also have the sumo gene pool, where most of your big types go straight to NFL
Random question..... What top are you wearing as it is nice
I would love to see a stronger, more competitive US team.
I think the fact that all USA sports like NFL, NBA etc. are played within the USA and not challenged on an international level makes a large difference - so you may be good in the US, but not necessarily in the world.
One of the best videos... a true reaction video
If America hires a good coach to start a program that focuses from high school through to pro leagues, they would dominate. It may however take 5 to 10 years...
I appreciate for your vid reaction. Rugby is indeed in our DNA bro. Look at Brazil and football then you understand...We breath Rugby all our lives.
"The South African team was stacked in 2015" The All Blacks: Best kicker in history ( Dan Carter) 2 time player of the year (Beauden Barrett) The best center combo ever (Ma'a Nonu & Conrad Smith) Richie McCaw, The franks brothers, Kieran Read, Prime (Julian Savea) The best ever halfback (Aaron Smith) and the one of the best backs to ever play the game (Ben Smith) and theres still more
Will never forget ABC Smith. Aaron, Ben and Conrad
If the USA took rugby seriously it would be a dominant world force but the NFL will never allow that to happen
Rugby in SA is like football in Brazil, if one of your teammates was injured during a game and wanted a replacement, you could just stop any guy from the street for replacement and he'll deliver.
You Funny! Big game tomorrow. Great work!
Bro, they were trolling you when they told you to watch this.
When you opened with “I don’t want it to be 100-0 or nuthin” I’m like “oh, he doesn’t know”.
Right from the beginning when he started talking about size I thought of Faf de Klerk 😂
Japan has improved a lot and in my opinion better than some six nations teams🤷🏽♂️😂
It is because they have Southern Hemisphere coaches and a few players too. All credit to them for beating the Boks in that world cup.
I doubt it they can't even beat NZ at softball or the Americas cup let alone the rugby lol.
I totally agree with what you said but they would never let rugby become bigger than the NFL and because of that they will never be a top team ever!
Hahaha love the reactions all the way through much love from South Africa "he n gooi dag"
Rugby is to NFL as Chess is to Checkers 🤷
You were so mad , i could see you hitting up 🤣 . . Best of luck to USA rugby. Great 7s team 👐
We sucked in 2015!! Still love my Bokke though!!
I love your reactions but this is my most favorite...
Watch USA v Scotland in June 2018 highlights
Man I enjoy you. Your reaction is priceless. Thankyou for making this video's
Japan has a dedicated Rugby team and they have hired some of our players in the past!
Most schools in South Africa make you take 2 sports compulsory. It’s usually rugby and cricket or soccer for the guys. Meaning our guys start playing from grade 1 (6 years old)
The look at 06:11 was priceless. 😆 we are the best in the world. 🤣
