Actually, regardless of how far you are from Earth, you'll still be pulled "down" towards it. Gravity has an effect, no matter how far you are from the object or how tiny the object is. A speck of dust will exert a gravitational force on every object in the universe right to the edges. It's just so weak that it's insignificant compared to more massive or more nearby sources of gravity. It only seems like there's no gravity in space because of orbital mechanics, but astronauts experience gravity just the same as us. Since they're in orbit, it's like they're constantly falling while missing the ground. If the space station stopped moving horizontally, it would fall to the ground just like anything else at a rate of 9.8m\s^2.
@@dominicracca Exactly! It's like how I was just explaining to a friend earlier today how if you're going 140km/h and you rear end a car going 100km/h the results in terms of the amount of energy transferred to your car would be the same as if your car had run into a stationary car (or even a wall) at 40km/h. The collision speed depends on the difference between your speed and the object you collide with, irrespective of how fast you're moving compared to the ground or a stationary observer. It's the same deal as if you're in a car and you pass a road sign at 100km/h. From your point of view, the road sign is passing YOU at 100km/h and you're remaining perfectly still as the rest of the world moves around you. I mean, that's absurd from our day to day experiences. But from a mathematical/physics perspective it all makes perfect sense and the math works out just fine.
@@dominicracca Yup, the same is true of the electromagnetic force, or the lorentz force as it's formally called. A single negatively charged electron's electric field will extend into space for infinity. The field lines all come out of the electron in every direction, so they're closer together nearer to the electron. This is what's called flux. If you've ever heard the term. The amount of field lines (any type of field, not just electromagnetic) that you have in a cross section of space. The more field lines, the stronger the field. So even though the lines extend to infinity, the further away you get it still gets weaker just like gravity. There's a great video I found that goes over a lot to do with electromagnetism. It's long, but it explains and shows animations explaining the electric field lines that I was just talking about. In case you're interested. I always thought electric fields were interesting because it's not something you usually hear about. You usually hear about magnetic fields. But rarely about electric fields. ruclips.net/video/9Tm2c6NJH4Y/видео.html The channel itself is worth going through. However, gravity is not 9.8 m/s^2 where the ISS orbits, it's around 8.7 m/s^2 since the gravity changes with height. 9.8 is the average acceleration on Earth's surface, I believe. The rest of your explanation still seems right though. correct me if I'm wrong, the calculation I used was (6.67 * 10^-11 * 5.972 * 10^24)/((6,371,000 + 408,000)^2

Enters Canada "Double jump acquired"
Question: If you stand on mount Everest, is the gravitational pull stronger or weaker? Because there is more mass beneath you but you also are further away.
Yes
As you can see on the globe shown at the beginning, mountainous areas are red thus having higher gravity. Its kind of a fake video, as this was no mystery at all. Its also easily proven by jumping from a mountain as compared to jumping from a ditch.
Gravity is proportionate to 1/radius^2, not the radius itself. So the effect of mass is stronger.
Everybody gangster until the tress starts flying
I half expected him to make a "your mom" joke while talking about the planet's gravity
HAI: Yes you michael

I can comfirm as a Canadian, that yes, we do jump all the way to a plane when we enter Hudson's bay.

Gravity is missing there because Newton didn’t have enough time to complete it there
