In fact, his ultra-ruffled, shirred, ruched, hourglass versions of the broad-shouldered 80s power woman silhouette were so widely copied at the time that they were almost too common. It's odd to hear him called an "intellectual" here, because his clothes at the time were so gob-smackingly, almost tritely feminine that they bordered on the crass.
