You don't wash raw chicken, and definitely don't keep moving it from surface to surface... think you should steer clear of chicken reviews...
Won't buy it being Hal Al !!!
My mum never had much money to play with but she could make that chicken go much further by cramming it with her own homemade _absolutely_ _moreish_ simple cheap stuffing - two slices of end bread broken into tiny bits, one small onion finely diced, one to two tablespoons of dried parsley and about two finger-thicknesses of butter. Work it all together into a big solid lump and fill the main cavity, season the bird not the stuffing (the seasoned juices seep right into it), cooking time as per instructions plus 5mins or so. Some roast potatoes or buttery mash, some roasted carrots and peas and some chicken gravy... You can push the boat out with pigs in blankets, broccoli, cauliflower, cheese sauce, cranberry jam... I need to go now, I'm having a moment
Halal. What a load of tosh. It is the cruelest way for an animal to die. The sooner that this method is is banned , the better. And as for saying a few words over the chicken, what good will that do. Absolute rubbish. This bird will have gone through agony before death occurred. Stop mentioning halal. Sorry gaz .
For me, the price is a major red flag. Some item arw criticised for being overpriced, a chicken for £1.99 makes me wonder how it was treated and the standard of care., people always complain about being overcharged yet never think twice about something being cheap 😬. Enjoyed the review 👊
It's astonishing how quickly people are loving the hyper inflation going in the UK right now.
It was perfectly normal just 3 years ago to have fresh chickens at £1.99 each.
@@Drew-Dastardly lol where were you getting decent chickens at £1.99?

This was pre covid. Inflation has hit and it seems idiots do not remember prices before. They will pay £6.99 for a chicken covered in piss, shit, acid on the hocks, broken bones, dirty brown joints and laugh at me when I got nice chicken for cheap.
Cheep cheep.
The Food Standards Agency say you should NEVER wash raw chicken. I really was shuddering when I saw how many surfaces, utensils etc. were splashed or came in contact with that chicken.
I was thinking the same
He would not know, because he does not cook, he just opens packets and warms the stuff up. Peace be unto you.

My wife was horrified.
What about chopping boards and knives that touch raw chickens? They get washed after, so all good.
Given the retail price of that chicken and it being imported, I'd be concerned about both the quality of it, and the farming methods being used. It's cheap for a reason...

A great and very worthwhile review, for the very good reasons you said. Personally I would not eat Halal or Kosher food out of principal though for the obvious reasons of unnecessary cruelty but this is my personal decision.
When it comes to Chicken, the only difference is a Halal slaughter house will be likely just be playing a prayer over a speaker as the Chickens are killed in the same way. With a sharp chop to or break of the neck.

As others already mentioned, no need to wash chicken, all you're doing is transferring any bacteria from the bird to everything that got splashed when you washed it! Good to see you are replying to comments on washing the chicken. I saw a very interesting video that looked at the splash of 'chicken juices' from washing and it goes EVERYWHERE (the sink, splashguard, floor etc) and when swabbed had some nasty bacteria. Cooking the chicken to the correct temp is enough :)
Well if you intend to use the juices to make gravy & you don't mind residue giblets in it, don't wash it.
Next time you get a Chicken check how much giblets remain in the cavity.
@@user-zh2mb9xl6o I remember the days when the giblets were sealed in a plastic bag and shoved in the cavity. Most old school housewives knew what this was for (stock). The newer breed just cooked them inside. Now we don't get giblets.

Halal is similar to kosher. The animal was killed as humanely as possible with the blood drained and the name of God mentioned.
@@rosem5041 Humanely as possible? A slow death of around 4/5 minutes. Have a word with yourself!
Nor me
How do you think your pigs are killed for bacon?
The treatment of the animals we eat are horrendous either way and I say this as a meat eater myself.
Don’t be so naive!
There are people who cannot afford to be picky so I would not criticise them for buying these. However, for myself, I think Halal slaughter is barbaric and should be left in the bronze age along with the people who push it. If this is the way they kill their animals, how do they raise them! Halal should be banned in the UK. Despite this I love your channel Gareth.
I agree with every word of this
100% correct well said
If you do a little research Kosher butchery is not that different. Draining all the blood from the animal is paramount for their dietary laws.
@@conormacdougal2344 That is true. Both cultures, Islam and Judaism, originate from the same part of the world, the same time period, c 2,000 BCE. You should never wash raw chicken
There is no need to clean chicken mate! The cooking process kills all bacteria, so washing it is a total waste of time. Not just a waste of time 'and water' you are getting bacteria all over your sink and worktop.

If it was any smaller it would be an egg 🤣. That aside as you say its a meal for 4 with extras, the afore mentioned soup/broth etc so value wise its good going. The fact that it cooks in the air fryer makes it even more economic. I think you may have found a little star there.
The best part of this video is the comments people trying to justify eating a dead animal because it’s not halal. At the end of the day I’m not a bigot meat is meat

To assist Ukrainian’s economy, all tariffs on goods, including poultry, entering Britain from Ukraine under an existing free trade deal were axed. Somethings not right here….far too cheap, not for me!!
It's cheap for a reason, but as long as it does you no harm get on with it, if a restraunt used it with all the gubbins and served it up, you would be non the wiser
It's cheap because Ukraine has low wages, vast amounts of grain they can't export so they are feeding livestock, increasing the size of herds/flocks to try reduce as much grain waste as possible. That is why this chicken is so cheap, it's being produced for about 40% less than it would in the UK but to food standards the same as our own because otherwise they'd not be able to import into the EU.
That kinda makes sense
That's exactly what most restaurants do! 👍🏻

Sunday dinners in the late 70's and 80's were always made with a frozen chicken in my house. My Mum used to buy it on the Saturday and it would be defrosted by Sunday and then lashed in the oven. Not had one for years! On a different note Gareth. You have been getting lots of glowing mentions on HUKD 👍

I understand that people are on a budget, but what kind of life( welfare) could a chicken have, that you could buy for that price. Am not being judgmental, cos I understand about the cost of living crisis, but for me better to eat less meat, so we can afford to eat higher welfare products on a less frequent basis.
Good video! Thank you.
I have always washed chicken. I’m not dead yet.
It reminded me of a poultry farm I lived by, years ago. It took six weeks to go from chick to oven ready. God knows what they were giving these creatures. It was a big barn. I don’t expect the hens had much enjoyment, during their six weeks of life.
