Note: To remove the keyboard, you do NOT need to remove the CPU Fan and Heatsink. Follow the directions as given in this video, only remove the bottom screws labeled with "K" and "P". You will only want to remove the heatsink/fan if it is very dirty and needs cleaning. Use caution not to damage the thermal pads under the heatsink (assuming it has them). Torn or damaged thermal pads can lead to higher operating temperatures, possibly overheating.
Add me to the list of those you have helped replace their motherboard or other components in this great laptop. Your video was extremely helpful with the daunting task. Many thanks!
This helped me tear my XPS Studio apart to fix the quickset keys, thanks! Also, I can confirm that removal of the heat-sink and fan assembly is not necessary for keyboard/front panel removal (tudio xps 1647)
Great Video. Replaced my circuit board, since my USB ports were broken. There are 2 flat looking screws near the battery plug in I did not see, almost ripped my keyboard in half. Put paste on graphics card and CPU, still probably running a little hot as this laptop does. Otherwise you don't need to remove heat-sink and fan
Looks like it has been a couple weeks. Have you resolved your problem? If not: First, double check the cable connections for your touchpad and backlight. Sometimes these cables can be touchy. If they do not make good connection they will not work. As for the blue screen. I would expect this to be due to improper shut down. Or possibly a loose RAM connection. I am not with this group, but will be glad to assist if I can.
hey mate i have a question is there any fan you know of that better than the stock fan in the xps 1640? also is there anyway to swap a 1640 motherboard out for the 1645 one with the better graphics card? as i run the 3670 and i know other models run the 4670
hey great video man. I followed your instructions one by one, but the backlight and mousepad isnt working. Would you know what i did wrong? After rebooting computer after the new keywboard installation, i got a blue screen error. I then had to boot in repair mode. Any input/advice is appreciated. thanks.

Techstore Hi can you make a video how to fix this type of lop top when they stop to power on; mine was working fine but I replaced the speakers and the woofer that were defected and after that it turned on fine; but there was some noise that came from the audio and I turned it off to check the speakers and I realized that the woofer was broken I took it out to order a new one but when I tried to turn on again it failed nothing happened I followed some videos in here that suggest to take the battery out and press the power for 30 seconds to release the charge I did this many times but did not work. please help
Thanks! However, like other users have noted, you did not show the procedure for replacing the motherboard, even if the title says so. Please update your video if possible, I am interested in that, too.

+Robert Hunter Thanks for your kind words.
Thanks for the excellent guide...my XPS is several years old but still runs as fast as anything new so it's worth the new keyboard. Cheers

Hi i suppose there is a problem in your screen. You need to replace the internal LED screen

The led screen is very costly for this laptop. It should cost you in excess of 7000 RS

we are from India
Gracias
very good and easy
great job thanks for the share
You are welcome. Glad we could be of help
Taking off the CPU and GPU heatsinks is COMPLETELY unnecessary for keyboard replacement. Watch the video by fx-laptop instead.
