As much as I enjoy other RUclipsr's doing Beatles covers, your channel truly stands out by going into the details on HOW they got their sounds. The attention to detail reveals how The Beatles likely got the sound on a song. THAT is revealing. That is unique. Like Andy Babiuk's work, you are pulling back the "curtain" and letting us peek into the studio to see how the "boys" got those sounds. We are getting a peek at their genius and how it was created. Thank you!!! P.S. Thanks for showing your 64' Classic set. It is such a beautiful example.......
Amazing job Perry. I love that tampura- where did you buy it? Also love the Mickey Mouse shirt They also plugged their J160’s in direct for lovely Rita. I’m not 100% sure but the 1st take of day in the life almost sounds like a pickup to me as well
Money is always a consideration, but you can focus on what you purchase and sell what lies outside of that focus and live that way for years! Some people buy classic cars in later life, or spend money on a vacation home . That can buy a lot of music gear instead! Thanks for watching!
Such a beautiful instrument- never knew of it - organ sounds great - love the instruction on all instruments. You are and always have been an excellent musician and teacher. 🎸🎹🙌🏻🙌🏻🌹
Wow , 2 weeks ago i wondered who of you Sam Popkin aud Paul (guitar gear connection) will move the j160e pickup first, its so tempting to try , yet , it can crack the guitar top done badly.
@@perrystanleyNumber9 you still have to try the third position of the pickup someday...the one between the soundhole and the bridge ( on one of george harrison's picture, i can see the 6 drilled holes!)
Outstanding stuff. My new favorite channel. God, what a playroom, man! Have you tried the Warm Audio WA19s? I think they're pretty nifty. Cheers from Austin
Just discovered your channel (and subscribed)...really appreciate what you are doing. I was wondering if you could talk about the Oso 715 more? How does it compare-I understand the feature difference between it and the 7-series Vox, but how about the sound? I'm interested in an honest take on it. Thanks!
It sounds great! It is all the electric in My Lucy cover. It has the same sound as a Ul730 but 15 watts. It has a master volume and the distortion circuit is very cool because unlike a real UL730 it is variable. I have a real Ul 730 and despite that I intend to keep the OSO 715 too! It is perfect for the Leslie but sounds awesome through a cabinet. Can really get Revolver tones. Clean tones sound great too. Listen to the Lucy cover . The clean tone on the casino is really nice! I’m also very impressed because it is really well built. Like a tank! It feels quality ( and sounds it) I feel lucky to have been able to get one because they were almost all gone when I bought mine. If Stephen ever comes out with a build you are interested in , honestly don’t hesitate. He’s an honest guy and sent it right when he said they would be done. He has had more experience working on rare vox amps than anyone I can think of. I’ve never met him. But if it weren’t a good amp I wouldn’t have used it to record with. I have tons of amps , mostly vintage vox amps and fenders. It is great to get a Ul sound from a brand new amp that is more compact. Nice distortion just by pushing the amp too. Like I said . If it was a dog I would not be using it, much less put it in my video and record with it. It was well worth the $ 2000 it cost. I use it with a vintage vox Ul715 cabinet. The clean sound was still through the one speaker of the Leslie with the rotation off. Hope that helps. If you have any questions Stephen communicates via email really well. Cool amp , really great build and a very knowledgeable and nice guy.
@@perrystanleyNumber9 Thanks, Perry, I appreciate the recommendation. I've seen his videos and chatted with Stephen on Facebook, but it is great to hear some owner feedback. The 715 looks perfect and I'd love to pick one up when he makes some more of them. Congrats on getting an original to go with your Oso! I'm looking forward to hearing it more. Most of the demos on RUclips (while greatly appreciated) have been older videos recorded with a phone, so it is nice to hear it in a proper studio setting. :) I'm continuing to check out more of your videos...thanks for the Day Tripper guitar mystery video! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Those settings for the Lowrey as listed in the books ARE the correct ones. The shrill, trebly sound you hear in the song is from a lot of EQ and high pass filtering. If you remove the organ track and just listen to the live mic leakage, it sounds exactly like that bassy tone.
Maybe so but the only thing that really changed was the amount of bass. I got to the same place anyhow. But yeah , I thought of that too. But I’m not so sure that it is definite. Pictures were from rehearsal not the day they recorded the takes and they were still working out the parts. As in most cases history is a game of telephone!
@@perrystanleyNumber9 Absolutely. The outtakes are best for analysis like that. Have you seen the multitrack document I've been working on for a few years now? It may be of some use to you for stuff like this.
@@RingoStarr39 No the only multitrack info I gave is from Recording The Beatles, All You Need is Ears(GMartin) and the Beatles recording reference manual. What sources are you using for your work?
@@perrystanleyNumber9 Whatever reliable sources I can find, honestly. haha I've found the Recording Reference Manuals to be inaccurate more often than not, at least as far as the track layouts are concerned. So I tend to be careful about using them as a source.
Thank you so much for sharing. One question , how hard is it to move the J160e pickup back and forth , as you stated they may have done during a session ?
I just remembered it's more than that. I had to unscrew the poles out of the pickup . That's why there are 6 holes in addition to the two screws . Forgot....
According to 3 sources, one of them being George Martin in his book "All you Need is Ears"George played both guitars. John did a guide vocal on take 7 with them ; his guide vocal was then wiped for the tanpura, and then there was a four track reduction for bass , vocals and background vocals.
Yes. There is also an interview I read somewhere in which George talks about playing the melody that follows the vocals. He said it was a thing he knew from Indian music having the melody follow the vocal.@@elirosen1391

Trouvailles Chandel in Montreal sell tamburas , if you need.I bought my sitar there.
That was fun and fascinating! Your ear for detail is incredible. Andy Babiuk and Jerry Hammack are going to have to start consulting YOU!

Two screws , that’s it.

I just put up a short vid to answer your question , Tim!
Who do you think played the acoustic part? Would it have been John or George?
According to 3 sources, one of them being George Martin in his book "All you Need is Ears"George played both guitars. John did a guide vocal on take 7 with them ; his guide vocal was then wiped for the tanpura, and then there was a four track reduction for bass , vocals and background vocals.
The other two sources were Recording the Beatles, and the Beatles Recording Reference Manual.
@@perrystanleyNumber9 so in short, probably George?
Yes. There is also an interview I read somewhere in which George talks about playing the melody that follows the vocals. He said it was a thing he knew from Indian music having the melody follow the vocal.@@elirosen1391
Yeah, it was George. John sang guide vocals on the backing track and also some maracas in the choruses.
