This giant monster truck is our very FIRST GAS RC anything to hit our channel! It's actually our first GAS vehicle that we've even owned, and a huge thanks goes out to David for making that happen. We had to do quite a bit of work on this, to get it up and running again, but how cool does that sound versus an electric truck?! The Redcat Racing Rampage XT is also the largest ground vehicle we've owned, at 1/5 scale, and it's super heavy to boot! Four Wheel Drive, and ready to run (except the gas) this truck just screams fun from the second the engine starts running! What do you guys think of this truck? Nope, I've had it with gas & nitro cars. They are noisy, dirty, temperamental wastes of money. For the price of this monstrous, noisy thing you can probably get THREE really good 1/10th brushless trucks/ truggies. You'd have to have a LOT more money than sense to buy one of these. 🤨
@@DeadlyDiddly yeah they may be noisy, dirty, hard to maintain, but it is very cool to have a gas rc car.
Ask your neighbours if they think they're "cool"@@loganwightman1325. If you haven't got a proper, 'out of the way' place to run one of these, they're an annoying noise nuisance, and can also easily cause property damage and injury in the wrong hands.

Back around 1963, I had my first drag racing gas powered car, ( .049 cox in a 57Chevy body ). Ran down the track connected to a string on the bottom that kept it going straight. My friend had the same set up with a stingray body. My gas powered planes were U-Controlled,,,, ahh the good old days,,,,, love your gas car,,,,, now go change the baby lol. ;p)

ABOUT TIME! I love the redcat line of gas and flow. I have from 10th to fifth scale and have had a blast I have seen other brands nothing beats a REDCAT in my book. If you get a glow or nitro the first thing you need to do is put in an inline fuel filter. This is the biggest mistake I have seen all the ones I bought used the carb was plugged with sand or dirt. I cleaned the carb changed the fuel line and put in a filter I have not had another issue. One more thing read the manual, get locktite (Blue) and put it on all the bolts that go into metal. I lost a lot because I didn't. Lol
Lol, we know. It's taken us way too long to get both Redcat Racing on the channel, as well as something Gas. I feel like I need a Gallon of Loctite for this thing!! :-) Thanks for all the tips Dennis. Definitely going to get into something glow next, and more Redcat!

Top end: Get new piston and rings. If that doesn't work, bore out the top end and get it blue printed. Great Video!

This had a lot of issues, but more like a real car so many things that can go wrong. Great team work to fix it.

Its great getting something for little $ with issues then getting it running well. Nitro on an airplane is like night and day from an electric (in a good way). Congratulations on the new family member!

The chunks of metal with the spring is called a Centrifugal clutch. Also, you can use a pair of locking pliers to hold the plate while you are winding the recoil spring.
The gas RCs are fun but because of the noise you’re limited to where you can use it. Still a very good looking truck.
No more louder than a chain saw but I would still have to agree there pretty loud and don't sit still like a chain saw

I have a very expensive audio card in my computor and I could just bearly hear a "oh my god"when abbie took the control and a "stop it geez what did I do" I'm pretty sure it was either the tree or the hill. haha thank you David what a guy.

Glad you crossed over, 1st tip, blue lock tight every screw on the truck, 2nd get metal chasis braces and a jet pro pipe, the engine will really wake up. The jet pro pipe will melt the rear stock chasis brace. 3rd like my rc brother botagell commented, outerwares all the way. I lowered the body on my xt by cutting out the front lower intake so it would clear the front bumper and i also cut down and lowered the body mount posts. Gave it a much more realistic look! Welcome to the world of 1/5 scale gas, I hope you get as strung out on it as I am!😁 PS, once you get dialed in, try playing around with different diff oils! Peace!

I had the 1/5 scale Redcat Rampage XB years and years ago back when they were relatively new to the market. That thing could take jumps and bumps like a champ. Had hours of fun, a few videos up on my old (now deleted) youtube account. Even was friends with one of the Redcat guys that did a lot of bash videos, Alishanmao. Sadly, I misjudged where I was piloting it and stuffed it full-bore into a concrete slab that I *thought* had dirt over it. Quite literally destroyed the gearbox from clutch to center dif.

I own two nitro redcats and love them! People that have never owned them do not know what they are talking about.
Now this redcat Rampage is a good rig, the new electric R5 Rampage sux! Redcat did a recall on them, but this Rampage is worthy 😂

Yeah that was my first thought. Based on the short bit I saw looks cool but lost interests quickly as there's just no way I'd ever get into gas powered RC. Just not my thing.

Very cool!
Couple thoughts. If the clutch spring was stretched out, it may have overheated. Try to compare the clutch shoes with a new pair to look for wear. Also check the surface the shoes mate up with for warping, discoloration and glazing.
Based on chainsaws etc.....When it comes to adjusting the carb, make sure the engine is warm and there is at least half a tank of gas. I ballpark the high speed, adjust the low speed and idle if needed, then finish on the high speed. Make small adjustments, 1/8 turn at a time and run it for a minute, you'll get a feel for it.
Readjusting may be necessary after hard bashing or big weather changes. I favor tuning a little rich for longevity instead of max performance. If the plug is wet and gooey, turn the adjustment in a touch.
Be diligent with fuel mixing and storage. Think 30 day shelf life when you mix it at the pump. Do not let it sit in the truck's tank or carb.
No matter the weather I learned from ridong dirt bikesbto always run a little rich. I spark plug replacement is always cheaper than replacing a motor.
It doesn't matter what kind of RC boat truck plane car is long as we're out there having fun

My first and last gasser in 21 years of RC was the HPI Baja 5B SS kit back in 2011. I had it until 2013. I bought it because all I ran was nitro up to that point and I wanted something that would run in the winter. Anyone who has nitro knows how not fun they are to tune in the winter. However, I didn't think about a 2WD rear wheel drive heavy vehicle that sits low to the ground may not be the best for snow. Didn't take long to figure that out. I think I ran 5 or 6 tanks through it in 2 years. Just never had a good place to run it and ended up selling it for less than half what I had into it. Also, living in an apartment means all my trucks are in my house. Pump gas smell lingers a very long time. Every time I ran it, my apartment would smell like gas for a week. Not great for my wife who has chronic migraines.
Started easy, easy to tune, fairly durable (with a few RPM upgrades), but with the lack of snow running ability and the smell in the house, it didn't get used much.
Now I'm into electric. Been running brushless for 2 years. I had 8 nitro's when I got my first electric two Christmas's ago. I now have 3 nitro's and 5 electrics. I ran nitro twice this year and my electrics almost every weekend since I started running them.
Well guys just order the Rampage XT , I am stoked , can't wait for it to get here. My first real rc, my first gas powered. I played with the cheap electric RC cars when I was a kid. I can't wait to run her.

I just black smithed a pair of miniature skidding tongs for the traction engine, things seem to be more interesting if there's gas involved but it looks like a ton of fun I want one

I thought I would never see the day where you guys would have a gas vehicle. Wow that thing is cool and the sound of that engine sure put a smile on my face! I know nothing about gas trucks but you have inspired me to want to get one really bad! Thank you to David for sending the truck to you guys and also thank you to Ed and Casey for helping get it running again! I was shocked at the price of this truck, especially since I know that Kraken Vekta's can be over $1,000.00 and this isn't even close to their price. So cool! I love the new intro video it is amazing! Keep being awesome my friends and I hope you are enjoying your new life with little Amelia. She is so darn cute!
I think a big part of that was just our lack of knowledge to be honest, and fear of getting something wrong. Glad we dove in with this! It's not as difficult as I thought. I'll continue to educate myself on the subject, and hopefully one day do a review of a ground vehicle I can recommend for everyone to get into Gas or Glow! Hi guys! Be aware of the temperature of the pipe. Maybe use a tad extra oil in your fuel and run it a tad rich, too. That practice might keep a few degree cooler running engine and avoid the heat damage my engine suffered. My RedCat Chimera was running a factory recommended mixture but I think I ran it a little too lean. Bottom line; I melted the header pipe to the stock muffler and that hot muffler melted some of the roll cage and as a result, put a dent in MY "bottom line". I had to replace the engine because the cooling vanes behind the pull starter were also damaged as a result. My fault entirely as I was "speed greedy" and not using common sense. All in all, I like the RedCat products and just ordered the same truck you folks have in the video.
Nothing wrong with Redcat, they make pretty decent stuff lately, very decent crawlers.
Careful with that, these will snap ankles in a blink. 1/5 is great fun, though. It is running rough and the clutch seems like it isn't working right, might be burnt.
I've got my eye on one of those crawlers btw. Safety first, definitely! You must have an ear for this, as it turns out the Clutch slipped off the outer ring shortly after this video. There were missing engine mount screws on the bottom of the truck, so it slipped off after a few bumps and shifts, letting the slipper clutch slip off place, lol. I've since fixed this issue. Thanks for the tips my friend :-)

I have the Losi DBXL, had it for about 2 years. Only had one issue with it. (my goof). I had forgot to take the fuel out of the gas tank when I was done for the season last year. When I went to run it, the fuel line had disintegrated in the gas tank and messed up the carb and the piston. A little costly mistake - had to replace the engine - (went with an upgraded motor). I am really not that familiar with Gas R/C engines - but, I am learning - and that one cost me - LOL :)

One thing I like about gas or nitro is you can run all day, no battery packing. That thing is a beast

The Tmaxx 3.3 is a really good glow rc or the revo 3.3 you can't go wrong with those one's.. I highly recommend Traxxas rc's I've had bad luck with other nitro rigs in the past But I love my rc10gt with the os max 12 cv Engine still have her I loved racing that one back in the days. Now the race track and the hobby shop is gone 😢. I've been running nitro stuff for over 25 years now. Before brushless rc's that was the only way to go fast back in the days you had a glow nitro rc you were on top.. But my neighbors did not like me very much LOL..
