- A film capturing not only what it's like to be on safari in Kenya but also telling a tale of bravery in the face of adversity. "Life is too short not to do exactly what you want."
In 2017 Klaus Tiedge embarked on a rather ambitious journey to go to Kenya in 2018 and make a film.
This “film idea” was something that Klaus had been thinking about doing for a few years already as a way to challenge himself to do something more than “just” photography. He hired film editor, Dean Paarman, to start the process by turning his existing footage into short videos for social media.
After receiving shocking news that Klaus was diagnosed with life threatening cancer, the idea of a film turned from an idea into a must-do goal.
"Life is too short not to do exactly what you want."
Klaus underwent a severe surgery in 2017 and while in recovery decided that when he was out of the hospital, the planning would begin. True to his word Klaus spoke to his film editor Dean Paarman and proposed he come with to help make this project a reality.
By February 2018 only final touches were required before the two of them would set off to film “The Safari of a Lifetime”.
An epic month of adventure, blood, sweat and tears ensued. Klaus’s Family joined them for the last week to make it one of the most memorable safari trips of all time.
(The film also includes some of the last footage of "Big Tim" - the Amboseli Elephant - which sadly passed away earlier in 2020)

We may have never met but I'm sure your path and those of us at Zeno Safaris may have crossed one time or the other in our beautiful parks and reserves, and on behalf of us and so many others in tourism in Kenya we want to say Asante Sana.
Thank you for portraying the beauty and wildlife of Kenya. For touching the hearts of so many through your lovely photos and videos, both here in Kenya and around the world.
Thank you for braving the challenges in life to showcase the magic of the Mara and Amboseli.
To your family we say have strength and relish the memories.
We only came across this video today as we are very new to RUclips and still do safaris the old fashioned way, but this is a video we will cherish and share for years to come.
Thank you for the pictures and the love. Rest Well.
Thank you for your kind words. Klaus would really have appreciated it.
All the best on your RUclips journey ahead. With the pandemic the tourism needs all the online marketing support it can get to get people traveling again.
Perhaps our paths with cross one day.
Asante Sana
Dean (Director of this film)
Thank you so much for your kind words and cherishes and well wishes ! Klaus would have loved to meet you in Kenya, I am sure. Wishing you all the best for your RUclips channel and your safaris. Lots of love from Cape Town, Sandra Tiedge
Looks to Me Like a Life Very well Lived and Spent Doing things of Substance in the Capturing of these Beautiful Breath Taking Images.
Wonderful endeavour showcasing a person who loved life, and was lucky to have lived doing something he loved with a wonderful loving family RIP Klaus
Such a beautiful man! Rest in peace 🙏

Life is a cycle. There is no end. PS:Very good photo, good work, buddy!
What a beautiful and inspiring documentary. I don’t know how this appeared in my suggestions list but i think it’s to keep me going in my wildlife photography journey. I learned a lot just by watching Mr Klaus and going to the Masai Mara is definitely on my list now. I really thought by the end of the documentary that you made it because you had so much conviction that you would beat this disease. I bow down to you Mr Klaus, you are a very fine photographer and you will stay alive through all your photos. ❤
Beautiful documentary very touching. So sorry for your loss.
Now this is a vlog worths watching & learning. Klaus it doesn’t matter if the one life’s changed, it doesn’t matter to be always like the others, it doesn’t matter to be strong all the time. What important - as you said- living it good. Thanks
Absolutely
What a talented photographer, and a fitting tribute to him. I'm afraid I was unaware of his work prior to this film. That's something I aim to remedy in the coming months.
I lost my mother to cancer. It was so emotional watching this documentary. So much love for Klaus's family.
We're all going to leave this lifetime at some point. Those among us, who, like Klaus, do so with courage and grace, are the true masters of life and death. They inspire and encourage us by their example. My deepest respect to Klaus and his loving family.
thank you @Alexandra Innes for your kind words and inspirational point of view - it's very true, isn't it. Greetings, Sandra

I have just found this today in February, 2024. I realize from the comments that you have left this dimension Klaus, yet maybe your family still see the mesages on here. I thank you for your wonderful film and the courage you had in getting so close to those animals. You showed no fear and it spoke the great unmenioned thing in this World - when we move in spirit and joy to the next dimension there is no fear of any part of creation. Your film has made me feel that - here in this 3 dimensional World and I honor your creativity and ability. I wish your family the very best.
