No one buys a Lexus like the LS because they have to or settling for next best thing. This is a car that one buys because they can! I sell 7's LS460's and S550 and Lexus is by far the most reliable and the absolute best for retaining value. 7 series....lol piece of junk!

My wife and 2 kids each own a Lexus. I drive a Prius. After a lifetime of driving, I'm still a Toyota fan. Not even Honda can compare with it's legendary reliability and quality control. I will never go near a BMW or a Mercedes. They are trouble waiting to happen. Heard too many horror stories about them.

After spending every other week at the shop with my bmws and mercedes. I finally got an LS460 and forgot what its like to go to the mechanic. Yes, I see where the LS500 isn't as great as the S class, but id take it over that simply because of the reliability.
btw, Id still want an NA V8 for the same reason.

Lexus has re invented the LS to the same level as the original 89s. This is revolutionary for lexus and what I have been waiting for, amazing car! I would buy hands down, beautiful car, performance, reliability, power, yes i do want a v8 but maybe the LSF will be that, but i must say, I am highly impressed with this twin turbo v6.

    • @1968matrix
      @1968matrix 6 лет назад +1

I f you spend that amount of money for a car you don't care about depreciation! You care about style and innovation. You can find these two in a German car not in a Lexus.
I had a Lexus as well as a lot of German cars, always regret to buy the Lexus never a German one.

I'd say better than the Bentley. Compare a Bentley that's on 300,000 miles. Especially when it comes to buttons - roof shade buttons, heated seats buttons. I guarantee you the Lexus used higher quality battle-tested materials.

IMHO, an LS it's not an LS if it's not powered by a N/A V8. The TT V6 may have a million good points towards it but it will never have the meaning, prestige or cache that a V8 brings naturally.

I'm not a Lexus fan, but this thing sounds incredible, and the interior looks first class. Since I like keeping my cars a while, this would be my choice out of the cars listed. With that said, I am concerned over the reliability of this particular car, due to the fact that this car has two turbines. Lexus usually uses bigger, NA engines, no? I was under the impression that this strategy helped the reliability. However if I was leasing, I'd get an A8 or S8

    • @JohnSmithExtra

Toyota has made turbo motors in the past without reliability issues, if you were to buy a reliable turbo motor, it should be from Toyota.

I drive a 2017 LS460L. Very satisfied the the smoothness and fuel economy. Maybe Lexus should try the champagne glass test on the 500 to convince the buyers that switching to V6 is not a cost cutting measure. Otherwise I would classify this model as GS 350T.

I'm on my 3rd Lexus RX- have the Hybrid now. It has been flawless, perfectly quiet, and maintenance free. This new Lexus LS is far better car than BMW, Jaguar, or Mercedes. The great thing about this brand of car is that you rarely (if ever) need to make visits to the mechanic! Love the new design.

I can always count on our Lexus that we have in the garage, wish I could say the same for the German cars we have had in the past. The Lexus is the backup daily to my main daily. LOL! If you rely on a German car as your main daily driver then you know what I mean (always breaking down). I love my German cars but their cheapness with plastics under the hood is leaving a lot to be desired on the reliability front. My 13' GS350 is my first Lexus and I must say i'm impressed, so much so that I really don't long after German cars much anymore. It's nice not spending the full purchase price all over again in "maintenance" when you own a Lexus. I have had numerous Porsches, BMWs, and Mercedes and all of them have been very needy when it comes to "maintenance" and repairs. It's nice to see Lexus is offering more driver focused cars that appeal to German buyers. I have never been a fan of Lexus styling in the past but they are finally heading in the right direction. We love the new LC!

    Canada
Price for base models Lexus bmw then Benz is most expensive.
Warranties 4 year 80km bumper to bumper all 3 models have that but bmw have free schedule oil change on top of that.
Benz... Hmm... there are too many S class out there on the road but keeps resale value. The new Lexus is very nice in n out but value depreciates quick for the LS. Bmw 7 series has the free oil change keeps ok value.
It would be down to the 7 series and the new LS for me.
Most like a 2016 7 series demo or used with low 15 to 18 km Still lots of warranty left. The best bang for your buck. CAD 80k to 90 would get u a nice one. The new LS would cost 100k plus freight n etc etc. New S class starts at 110k. Used S class 2014 to 15 still goes for 80k to 90k with 2 year warranty left. Not a good deal.
2016 Bmw 7 series more rare on the road. My final pick.

I drive an LS460 F Sport. Had a standard LS460 previously. Drove a GS400 before that. Only unexpected repair I've ever had was a starter on the GS. I take care of my cars. And they reward me with the best reliability of any brand car I've driven. My Mom is on her second LS460. Same story for reliability. There's a reason most Lexus owners stay with the brand. I am very excited to get behind the wheel of this new LS. I definitely can see myself upgrading to the new design!

Currently I own a first year LS460 and a modified C6 corvette z51. Between the two cars I like to think it I have the perfect balance of comfort and fun. Switching from one car to the other really is mind blowing in how different the two are and how they go about their intended purpose so well. For me if I was replacing my 460 I would go with the LS500. When I bought the LS460 over the German competition I did it for its reliability and performance (Back in 2007 the LS was quicker then the 745/s-class/A8/XJ), but today I would go with the LS500 because of its projected reliability and its styling. The styling is what really has impressed me the most!

I drive a fifteen year old LS430 with 120k miles. It is still a great pleasure to drive today. Reliability is off the chart. One of my favorite things is Lexus service visits and the fact that they'll give you a brand new loaner vehicle on a fifteen year old car.

I drive a W221 S600 and cannot WAIT for the 2014 S550 to drop to half MSRP in depreciation and snatch it up!! This lexus has me THOROUGHLY impressed, but Lexus have always been mindnumpingly boring to me and lack that certain statement of style. I complain overtime i fix something on my benz, but truth told, it's not that often, and my car is 8 years old. The Lexuses are amazing, they just don't have that Air of exclusivity the European cars have.

Urgh, that Mercedes when the suspension goes out and everyone will see it. Or, that BMW that even the dealer can't figure out what's wrong. Or that catastrophic failure that is luckily under warranty ...and to live like this for the life of the car. Totally not admirable no matter the looks or performance. To top it off, the others are much much more expensive. It does not compute, except by ego.

More technology (e g. Autopilot, magic body control which scans the road ahead for bumps and prepares the suspension ahead od time so you can even go over a speed bump and not know it) , more features (like perfume dispenser, stone massage, elegant ambient lighting , air bag seat belts.... Etc to name a few) better comfort.... Etc etc... all despite being released nearly 2-4 years before the 7/L and as reviews and sales suggest it's the king. Its so good that it competes on rr and Bentley level forget just Lexus ans bmw. And even then it blows rr and bently out of the water. Let alone if you get maybach version. Not to mention it's far more customer friendly in the sense thay there is so much more flexibility and options available.... You have a sedan, coupe, cabriolet, amg, maybach, Pullman limo, emperor etc... In comparison to BMW with only a sedan and Lexus with only a coupe and sedan. So many reasons not just the badge.

An utter pinnacle of stunning design, engineering as well as overall craftsmanship of the entire LEXUS team, which includes the very last person on the assembly line at Tahara plant, as well as the entire team of "takumis", also known as master artisans.
Only a fully dedicated team that takes pride in their work and in appreciation of the historic importance and significance of this model, which shook the auto world in the luxury sedan segment back in 1989 in the form of LS 400, could have created such a masterpiece of a vehicle, which will be one to beat in its segment.
The entire LEXUS team was able to pull off the most difficult task there is for designers and engineers-to successfully combine luxurious, serene ride comfort with handling and performance, without compromising the former part of driving experience, which made the LS model famous throughout the world.
Congratulations to my entire LEXUS team on this astonishing accomplishment.

I’m really blown away by the design. It’d be a though choice between the 7 series and the LS. I haven’t made up my mind yet though... with the engine, I’d go for the most powerful choice that would be available just bellow the super sport package (I.e.: for the 5 series for example I’d go for the 550 instead of the M5).
I’m speaking from Brazil and unfortunately I don’t drive any cars from that category. I drive a Toyota.

If I could choose between the LS, S Class or 7 Series (or the Audi S8) I'd go for the Lexus. Lexus has much better reliability than the German cars, which means I'd rather be able to drive the car I bough than having it sitting inside the dealer's repair shop most of the time.
I had the 2014 BMW 5 series M Sport, I don't have it any more because the engine blew up and no it wasn't my fault. BMW uses a sensor for the oil instead a dip stick, I didn't notice any weird sounds or knocks from the engine but oil was sipping inside the cylinders. While I was on the highway doing 130 Km/h (80 Mph) two cylinders popped off the engine, one from below and one from above. The engine was completely destroyed. I had to replace it and thankfully I had the foresight to include such accident to my insurance. Do you know what's the funny part, the engine had only 38.000 Km. My dad has a Toyota Land Cruiser Luxury (the top line of that year) from 2005, has 210.000 Km and the beast is going strong with no faults.
Now because I'm stuck with my Toyota Aygo (daily drive) and I was looking for a new car I believe I'd opt for the new Lexus LS, and *if I do buy the car I'd go for the Hybrid engine* .

I've owned a MB once, BMW once, Audi (my wife owns now), and Lexus's. Hands down the most reliable brand is the Lexus. I have a fully loaded RX currently. With the MB and the BMW, as soon as I hit 48k miles and 55k miles respectively, so many things started breaking down. Spent too much money fixing them decided not to buy them again. My wife's Audi has 20k right now and have had a couple of problems already which the dealer took care of. Owned a Toyota Sienna some time back and when I sold it, it had 293k miles... not a single problem. All I did was change oil, tires, brakes, oil filter, timing belt and such on time.

I have owned over the past 5 years two Audi A8's back to back 1 short and 1 long wheelbase.. Amazing car to drive daily without any problems. I recently was in the market and chose a new 7 series non M-sport w/20s. I am as of now, just as happy with my 7 and save about $200.00 per month on my payment. Once you get to this level of car, they all are nice.
If the LS were available now I would consider a non-hybrid, maybe AWD. But whoever can offer me a great level of tech, comfort, competent drive experience at a competitive price, I would consider.
Brand loyalty is not very important to me in this current luxury market.
P.S. As for Mercedes I have owned 7 and drive 1 as my everyday.. I have had positive ownership experiences in my purchase choices.
In the future perhaps that new LC500..
    I'm in So.Cal.
    Enjoy the Drive!

This V35A-FTS is glorious and dispute it's modern complex (even more so than Germans) design it already has proven itself to reliable (unlike Germans) and it can mace 650hp with a simple ECU tune. But come on LS - is a flagship and it needs tt V8 really badly and also V8 hybrid.
Those runflat tires on air suspension suck though. You can put runflats only with magnetic suspension.

I've been complaining about the tacky styling of Lexus lately. I hate what they did to the RX, don't like the styling of the GS, the ES is really nice though, but this LS500 is the nicest looking car they have ever produced! It's gorgeous. While I have always admired their reliability and approach to engineering, I've never been a big fan of their styling or driving dynamics. This car has changed all that. The A8 used to be my favorite followed by the S-Class, but if it were my money, I'd get this LS500S. NA

It is funny you ask that as I am now looking at those vehicles to purchase this year. BMW is out - they just don't appeal to me and their driving feel has left the building. I liked the S560. Solid, completely level in the turns -- I liked the 8-cylinder better than their 6 cylinder - so my next step is the test drive in the Lexus. Right off the bat, I like the lines of the Lexus. Smart people buy Lexus over German junk because they are better engineered, better designed and better built, therefore, much lower frequency of repair rates. With that said, I don't like the new interior and the engine noise seems too intrusive in this review. I wonder if moving the engine back makes it much harder to service. I'll keep my old LS.

One of the main issues that I have (I have a 2018) is that they put a lot of basic controls in the screen settings. I shouldn't have to go into the screen settings to turn on/off my heated or cooled seats. Those settings and a few others should be at my fingertips outside of the settings in the screen. Also there is no spare tire and they want you to use run flat tires. You lose ride quality with run flats over standard tires. Other than that I enjoy my LS.

Mercedes are reliable.... In fact they have to be... Their cars are used as taxis and they also have trucks and unimogs.... Both of these Industires depend heavily on reliability so Mercedes most definitely has to be reliable.
