      Max already lost that lap when he missed his braking point. If he only dialed it back a bit that last sector it would have been amazing, but hindsight's always 20/20.

      Quite indicative of his season really. Yeah he's had his best season yet and he's on the verge of winning the Driver's Championship, but over the course of the season Verstappen has been subject to gnawing misfortunes and I think they will cost him the title ultimately.

    I think Lewis played it safe on the following laps after he missed the apex that lead him off track. Max on the other hand on that final lap was going all out.

      @@engineer14 exactly! In all three sectors, that circuit is still green and there was still inconsistencies in the line. I feel Maxes undoing started at the beginning and started throwing the car around and the tires didn’t like that.

    Hamilton didn't send it like Max on his final lap, but still impressive as there were 4 to 5 cars that he had to avoid during his pole lap that could have easily distracted him but he still pulled it off.

    "To finish first, you first must finish." Looks like Lewis didn't take as much risk as Max's run which wouldve smashed Lewis time had he not tagged the barrier. Absolutely loving the flow of this street circuit!

      Yeah this lap is smooth .
      But Max's lap was on the limits . Pushing his car to the absolute end . Sad that it ended in a disaster . If he could have finished that many would have regarded that lap as the greatest lap of this season .

      @@ananthu8534 no, if max finished his lap he probably wouldnt even be on P1 since he gone wide in the last corner and therefore was very late on the throttle while lewis kept a tight line. Max lost his gains because he braked to late, even if he was in front he would ve lost it all on the straight

    Lewis had slowed cars in every sector, still amazing at his age holding it completely, sometimes less is more and records continue to pile up, great effort for Max too.

      Yeah when you take into consideration that a lot of these corners are blind for them and they're doing 160/200mph between walls, it's a very intense circuit. Once again these guys show that they're some of the best and bravest in the world! 👍

    Merc was definitely the slower car in qualifying trim. The regulations really hurt them, Lewis was fighting the car a lot.

    I expected this track to be a cool one to see the cars at maximum pace and yet I'm still surprised how brilliant it was. Not many tracks can make you nervous to watch the cars at nearly every corner.

      @@deezelkane Yeah he seemed to be hesitant in the middle sector. Almost a lift when that Alpine I think it was, crossed paths with him. I think it would've been a lot closer if Lewis let it fly, but Max would've snagged pole still with such a committed lap.

    Why do so many people say that Lewis' lap is worse or less impressive than Max'? I really don't get it.. Lewis was incredibly fast, he had everything under control and didn't crash. He is clearly the fastest driver on the grid, because he is the best balancing risk and reward.

      I think its because Lewis makes it look easy sometimes. Lewis could also drive flat out like Max here, but he's a lot more calculated in his approach which comes with age and experience. Obviously it's more exciting when you see a guy like Max throw caution to the wind, but Lewis thinks big picture and sometimes that's boring to fans.

    Let's admit it, Lewis can do more than this but he knew the risks and he was calculated enough. Sign of Maturity and experience right here. It's about respecting the odds. When to push it and when not. Come race day that would be the time to push push! Get in there Lewis.

      Instincs are better than calculated moves, thats why Max ate him up in the last race. Lewis was calculating and never saw that lion coming for him into that turn. It was pretty embarrassing for a 7th world champ to miscalculate so badly, I was sad when that happened

    This track may end up having an absolutely brutal accident. It's surrounded by barriers and has blind 160 mph turns. If two cars in the front just touch wheels and crash on one of those blind fliers, the whole field will be involved.

      Agree, they’ll be lucky if everyone escapes unscathed from the race tomorrow…incredible exciting but incredibly dangerous. I’m not sure if the degree of danger on this circuit is warranted but we won’t know until the race is over. And if Max has to take the 5 grid penalty, he’ll be at maximum risk and danger coming through the field - Murphy’s Law is definitely going to be tested in the extreme tomorrow!!

      Indeed. In today's F2 sprint 2, had Lawson's car come to rest in the centre of the track he would have been t-boned horribly. Circuit is dangerous af. Exciting, but very dangerous.

    literally lewis slowed down in the middle sector he was very catious, he passed 5 cars in whole lap, 2 carsin 1st sector, 2cars in middle and 1 in final sector, in 1st sector and middle sector cars just by inches they are moving away racing line. this lap is nuts with the traffic in hand. 🤯🤯🤯 still he pulled off 👑👑👑 other than lewis anyone would have much slowed down. 👏👏👏

    Max had a choice how to react to his lock up mistake, with so much time in hand, lift off and make the corner and still make it on pole or the front row *or* gas it and go for pole...
    ... he doesn't know when to quit and went for the latter.

      With the lock up he had lost pole (he was 2 tenths up) but maybe could have gotten P2 or P3 but without the anxiety of a possible broken gearbox or the car being off for some reason tomorrow.

    MANNNN I didn't notice he has SO MUCH TRAFFIC!!!!
    This is even more IMPRESSIVE!!
    Plus people seem to forget that Redbull was the quickest car ON SOFTS all this day long ( Free Practice and Quali). Mercedes in the other end was Horrendous in SOFT but the quickest in HARD.
    This is really an Impressive Lap from Lewis. Woww

    Hamilton deserves pole because of all the traffic he had ahead of him compared to Max’s last lap. Glad Max wasn’t hurt, but i bet his angry dad will give him a right ear full, which will be painful!

    His avg speed was exactly 254 km/h which is 157.8 mph. That's 5 km/h (or 3.1 mph) faster than 2020 Spa's pole lap which I belive is the fastest ever lap around the Belgian circuit.

    On this lap Lewis was lucky to avoid the car in front that literally crossed the track from left to right. Scary. This is happening at an average speed in excess of 200 mph.

    I could certainly drive faster than both max and lewis but will certainly hit the wall on turn 1 .it is a combination of speed and control that makes them pros. Lewis could certainly be faster but he knows he has to maintain control. so no excuses for max who wanted to go faster but then lost control

    Max's last lap is like more of a Pole Lap even though he crashed on the last corner exit and didn't set a time it was stunning but Lewis Hamilton keeps proving why he's a true peoples Champion
