    The CANDU system at Bruce Nuclear, Darlington Nuclear and Pickering Nuclear have given Ontario almost 30% of its power for years....and the CANDU system is unique in its safety procedures, and using a only slightly refined U235 fuel bundle that is easier to store post use for waste storage

      Actually, over 50% of Ontario's electricity is nuclear (for several years).

    When talking about Bruce Nuclear, the image at 4:22 is actually Darlington Nuclear (I work there). I've walked through this area for 20+ years.

    I feel like ALL nuclear facilities look the same. Their computers are like Soviet-era 1970s style.

    Can't wait to hear about both the first fusion reaction at ITER and the first commercial thorium reactor, where i believe the technology is heading. Would be a beautiful thing to no longer rely on gas, oil and coal and have the world running mainly on hydro, nuclear, solar and wind. Hopefully get to see that in the next 40-50 years

    Chinese molten salt reactor (MSR) is quite bold move to advance nuclear technology to next level. Other nuclear tech countries like USA or Japan, Korea France should hurry to develop MSR technology and thorium reactor like LFSR. MSR is true next-gen technology before nuclear fusion become practical.

    We need to go back to nuclear power. I have been saying this for decades. Look at France. Why spend trillions of dollars on inefficient and environmentally harmful things like dams and solar panels when there is much better option. Even a few nuclear accidents are going to cause a lot less environmental damage than what you are going to get with that many dams and solar panels. People don’t realize how horribly environmentally destructive hydro power is.
    We wouldn’t be here today where people are going to not have electricity in much of Europe or would struggle to pay not to freeze in the USA if we weren’t almost out of winter if people hadn’t had an irrational fear if nuclear power.

      After getting better informed I am understanding this complex matter from an objective fact based effort instead of a emotionl subjective reaction. I still fil to see ho wat a point fr in the furture all of te ukons amonts of radio active waste stored in unknowm n locatin sin steel coverd in concrete tht will erodre completely long before the waste is no longer radio active won't contminate everything tht comes in contact with it. You cn't expect em to beleive tht anyon egroup currently knows exactly hwo much or wht is where adn stored in what. WE can't prevent wht we won't be alive to prevent. There re no fail proof plans. Thee is no other conlcuin to make. You can't asert tht this waste won't be exposed given the shelf life of the wste compared to steelel and concrete bathed in radiation w/o pause. The Only "solution" to this waste tht made sense to me was a man who sadi it posed no threat when beign minned or extracted becaseu it wsn't in large enough quantiies to be a threat. It's spread out but we scop it up chuck it together for our use dn then scop it up again dn try to hide it on a planet we all liv eon . HE sid if it was disposed in tiny amonts spread over larg distances it wouldn't be a threat. HE sid peopel wotn gofo rthat te "Not in my back yrd " mentallity. I also learned about a differnt kidn of fuel that's less radio active ofr somethingtht makes it a beer choice . I think Indai is pourign a lot into this substance .I think it began with aK or has the leter K in the word ...if tt rings a bel. ll I knwo is that The LEft has gone insne they're so far out o lineits time to act accordingly. Thesear ethe same peopel who forced the endo of the paper grocery bag adn sadi WE got thi sone adn gaveous theplastic grocery bag which they swore was col unliek the paper bag that was from trees....that didnt turn ou twell at all.
      I needa new keyboard my bad for the typos. too hungry to fix them. Hooly makerel ..holly makerel 86 typos this keyboard is 4 monthsold the keys stick its horribel.

      Not exactly. The goal, at least in CANDU, is NOT to boil the water, but have it flash to "dry" steam. With pressure and temperature. Then the full force behind the steam can be used to turn the turbines. As it goes through each turbine, any condensation is removed so it is dry steam again.

      Water-cooled nuclear power plants have two water loops, the first is the coolant loop that runs through the reactor and the second is the working loop that boils into steam and drives the turbines. The first loop, since it doesn't go anywhere near turbines (and thus has no use for steam) can either be allowed to boil into steam or it can be pressurised to stop it boiling into steam, these two types of reactors are known as BWR or PWR. They are the two most common types used in the world.

    Yaay you list Finland's Eurajoki Olkiluoto 3 powerplant in 11. I living near of Olkiluoto and that Power plant is in my neighbour. I was visit in Olkiluoto Powerplant year 2019 and that is huge project🏭🇫🇮. Peace for Ukraine. 🏭🇺🇦. Ps that video was interesting. 🔥🔥

    Thorium reactor is future & India 🇮🇳 have far ahead in research & development in this field compare to any other country.. India have world 70% thorium deposit..

    Debbie Downer here...What happens if we get hit by a massive anything? Meteor,earthquake...How long does the planet have if something absolutely terrible happens,before these plants go boom and wipe out whatever might be left of humanity? Serious question by the way!👍

      Replace them all with RBMKs, get all of these to go boom -- which, uniquely, the RBMK could do. It represented peak Soviet Dunning-Krugerism, or so I would have thought -- and still no wiping-out of humanity would be possible.

    Very informative. A good solution to power needs with one major downside, the nuclear waste. There is no cost effective way to provide a solution of remediating the nuke waste produced by the plants.

      I wouldn't call that a major downside, all of the waste produced by all reactors in history all the way back to 1953 could easily be stored in a single football stadium. If anything that is a minor downside.

    And the introduction you mentioned the high efficiency of nuclear power plants and I was looking forward to some statistics which were not given. So I checked out the efficiency of the Westinghouse a1000. About 30%. Two-thirds of the heat is wasted. Climate change is a warming of the planet is more than simply methane and CO2 emissions. It's the Heat that is trapped within the CO2 and two-thirds of the heat is lost to the environment with Westinghouse most Advanced reactor yet devised. From my memory recall, the Mark 1 reactors in Fukushima are 20% efficient. It requires 5 billion watts of heat to create 1 billion watts sent to the grid. I disagree with the assessment that nuclear power plants are highly efficient. 30% is a great improvement from 20% but it's not 80% which I would consider efficient. I don't think this is the solution to global warming.

      No heat source anywhere on the planet comes anywhere close to the output of the sun so any heat from a nuclear power plant would not even register as negligible. It's the Sun's immense heat that is being trapped by greenhouse gases. Even the heat generated by a city like London would not make a dent in the enormous solar blanket that is permanently wrapped across one side of this planet.

      Very pertinent. Global warming and renewable energies are keys in this discussion. Nuclear is not renewable. Solar panels are the way to go and wind energy where available. Pumping water up reservoir is very feasible in Switzerland. First plant in activity in 2022.

    And ALL of these are outdated and should never be duplicated. They are all plenty safe, just economical and limited on what they can do for us. Molten salt reactors will be far cheaper and produce high temperature industrial heat that has hundred of purposed beyond just making electricity.

    What is using all this electricity and why do we need more all the time? Or is this just the phasing out of coal and oil? Can't be that many women with high wattage blow driers. Prepping for all electric cars and trucks? He who controls the grid rules the world.

      Most of the new energy consumption is used by the industrialization of China, but also the electrification of communities in southern Asia and parts of Africa.

    Advance reactors 😂 most of them are dinosaur reactors, except for the Thorium reactor, at least we will still have thorium when we run out of useable uranium probably by 2050, that can be used to start up the ITER successor, if it not another 30 years away.

      Here the last month? Hey, I’ve been saying nuclear power for decades. It’s the most environmentally friendly form of energy, much more so than dams or solar panels and so much more efficient. We got here because of irrational fear of nuclear power. Did you know that the anti-nuclear movement in the west was heavily promoted by the USSR like many things in order to harm the west. So basically a lot of the anti-nuclear hysteria was in a way started by what is now Russia(and was also Ukraine at the time).
