Thanks for the review. I'm based in the South, so will give Iryo a go in 2023. Competition is a good thing for customers, but the market needs more international routes if we are going to cut air travel in Europe. Plus, in Spain almost all high speed services radiate from Madrid. Filling in the gaps for cross-country routes is taking a long time.
Competition in the passenger rail system is idiotic. The best example for this being the UK. Ask any UK train user how satisfied she/he is with that system - and then compare with e.g. Switzerland (zero competition) and Austria - not France (strikes), or Germany (reliability), however.
@@akbk2505 But you're mixing high speed and conventional services. Italy has been doing it since 2012, with Trenitalia competing with Italo, and so far we are quite satisfied. Anyway, a comparison should be made with Italy (for example), not with the UK that does it with commuter trains.
Another problem is that many small and medium cities, and vast parts of many regions, are not reached by train services. Because of this, for night trains being non-existent and also because all the HS lines go through Madrid, many Spanish people prefer to use cars and aeroplanes to save time. Spain is also stopping Portugal from being connected to the rest of Europe’s HS network. Spain only focussed on expanding its high speed network with EU regional development funds to show how better they are in comparison with France, Italy etc. , but they totally forgot to look after their citizens and provide basic services to them. This is one of the reasons most of Spain is emptying out, the famous “España vacía”.
MrMaximino92 You seem to have something against Spain for some reason, but the emptying of rural regions is a global phenomenon, not a spanish one, and we’re not stopping Portugal from doing anything, the french have resisted any further integration of the iberian rail network with theirs in fear of the competition it would bring to their local companies, despite the fact that we opened our markets to theirs.
Very enjoyable trips we had with Iryo. Barcelona to Madrid. Madrid to Seville. Thanks to Spain and the beautiful Spanish people for the great experience. Wish we have them in the US!!

Great video about Iryo and this new service. I was wondering as a railway expert, if you know about any other HSR in Europe besides the MAD-BCN where you can find three different operators: Renfe (AVE/ Avlo), SNCF (Ouigo), Trenitalia + Globalia (Iryo)?
Great video and train! It seems that they are betting their money on a traveler who wants not to be treated like cattle. Please note that the name of the Restaurant/ Tapas service is Basque. Haizea (not Haiza) means "viento" (wind). Strange they did not market themselves as pintxos (rather than tapas). Regarding domestic high speed competition, hey France, we are talking to you 😀!
With OUIGO and Iryo democratising the high-speed rail network and RENFE bringing Avlo to go with its traditional AVE service, Spain is giving air carriers a run for the money through fast, accessible and affordable rail travel with stations so close to the city, not even the plane matches the convenience of the train. I'm 100% agree that all of this is good for the consumer. 😁 If only Iryo should've designed tables that move much closer to get work done... 🙁
The HSR market seems to be HUGE in Spain. Now the number of operators is 4! That seems like a lot to an American like me. Why do so many companies want to operate with competition?
3 operators (Renfe, Trenitalia-Air Nostrum & SNCF) with 4 brands/services (Avlo & AVE of Renfe, OuiGo of SNCF and Iryo of Trenitalia). And the railway manager, that gives the license to the operators, is Adif (which is public, or federal in US terms). Avlo and OuiGo are low cost.

55€ for a 600km trip in first class AND the food is included??? that‘s incredibly cheap and a perfect example why we need competition on the rail too. I want Trenitalia in Germany too😢
Great report, thanks, and it's excellent news to hear that Trenitalia is bringing the competition to yet another European country. Please, let them launch services on the Brussels-Paris line! We're captives of the damned Thalys "service", which is outrageously expensive and enjoy a de facto monopoly on the services between the two neighbouring capitals. At least, when Thalys was launched between Brussels and Amsterdam, the classic IC service (with totally flexible ticket use) was retained, so people travelling between the Belgian and Dutch capitals can freely choose between the high speed Thalys and the classic IC services. This is what normal and decent competition looks like but the situation is completely different between Brussels and Paris, with Thalys in a monopoly position and completely abusing it. Treinitalia, please come and rescue us! Aiutateci, per carità!

I always enjoy your weekly video outings. I've taken a train several times, but NOT overnight. I'm one that needs quiet and my bed not moving. But, We'll see soon if I can sleep on a train. BTW< November 25th, 2021 or 2022?
In the U.S., We have Amtrak Nationally, while there are interstate, and Regional carriers. But, as Fright has priority here it will take those companies to allow higher speed competition in giving an alternative to flying.
i travelled with this train from barca to madrid and roundtrip. extremely comfortable high speed train.
The excellence of "Made in Italy"? Yes!!
Well, partiality Italian, as Talgo is partially Spanish.
Hitachi is Japanesse
@@FranciscoCamino They are trains designed and produced in Italy by Italians. They are 100% made in Italy
@@alessiovalentini4401 What I mean is that AnsaldoBreda bellongs to Hitachi. Technically Italian but owned by Japanese, which doesn’t make FrecciaRossa better or worse. Just a remark. 😉 I am terribly happy to have them here in Spain.
Hello from Italy :D
Shiny and brand spankin' new!
Finally, a train company that noticed that they have to offer as great service as an airline. This breakfast is even better than on any European business class.
Food is better in ave trains
Spanish food is excellent
i hope the ETR1000 comes also to the netherlands with a highspeed service from Amsterdam to paris - Milano or Amsterdam Paris - Madrid or Barcelona.
Not enough Companys do this and they should open up the market for everyone to travel quick safe and relayable
Spaniards, take care of our high speed train😎🇮🇹💎
The shaky train with a noise on board that no other train in Spain has
I didn't understand from the video and I want to ask: do they check the luggage on a scanner like they do at airports before a flight?
beautiful train!
@Jg235 but a bit shaky and less comfortable than TALGO
Great video! And sorry €55 with tapas & wine included?? 😮❤❤❤
I think iryo is going to be a hard competitor to Ave, I think a lo anb ouigo are other league. I wish iryo thw best, I used them in Italy and was a good experience.
So much better than the UK prices especially on The West Coast Mainline at present.
Bring this company to Brussels Paris Amsterdam London routes would be awesome
Renfe will enter the French Market
Un Frecciarossa spagnolo 😂😂😂😂🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦🇪🇦
I'm taking this next week. I'm hyped about it. Bought the Infinita seats.
I never seen a train this new wow !
Beautiful!
I traveled this route in 2015(I think), and it was fast and efficient then.
If only Iryo should've designed tables that move much closer to get work done... 🙁
We will see how long last this cheap
I so want to take this! Just have to get to Spain first... never been, not sure which city I'd want to go to first!
The HSR market seems to be HUGE in Spain. Now the number of operators is 4! That seems like a lot to an American like me. Why do so many companies want to operate with competition?
How many airlines fly NYC to Chicago? Thats your answer
There are 3 operators: Renfe (AVE and Avlo), SNCF (OUIGO) and ILSA/Trenitalia (Iryo)
Because of the liberalization of the railways in all of the EU countries, set out by the EU, which countries like France, mainly, are hindering.
@@javierjimenezmartinez5613 France doing French things. As usual.
So jealous we have nothing like this in the U.S.
Instead of that, you have the biggest and strongest army. Every country decides where to invest its budget. It's not a criticism.
@@hermericojimenez2616 You mean military. And yeah, that may be the case, but our infrastructure has suffered. And this is coming from someone who spent 20 years in the Navy.
@@TheRailwayDrone That's right.
@@hermericojimenez2616 I'd rather have strong and reliable infrastructure and public transport than 20 Aircraft carriers and a billion planes to show off to the world....
@@alfrredd If USA wants to maintain their power, that is an obligatory choice, If you want to be the Roman Empire you have to be one.
Very impressive.
I love parallel races❤️
Aiutateci, per carità!
next year they will open service in Greece
This company is not trenitalia it's iryo, a 60% Spanish company
