    I was 15 when this movie came out and had the biggest crush on Kristen Stewart so of course I wanted to see The Runaways in theater! But it was limited release and the movie wasn’t playing were I lived, so I planned a trip with my mom to New York solely to see this movie 😂
    I went with my mom, her boyfriend, and my best friend to New York for the day and we found a theater that was playing it. Since it was rated R, my mom bought the tickets for me and my friend to go. Her and her bf didn’t really care to see it, so they went off to do their own thing. Then the movie theater staff followed us in and said we weren’t allowed to see the movie without an adult because it was rated R, and we were like wtf my mom bought the tickets, of course we have permission, but they said the adult had to be in the theater with us. So I called my mom and she came back and bought a ticket for herself, came in with us, and then left like ten minutes later. The theater staff came back in AGAIN and said they saw my mom leave, and kicked us out 😭 I didn’t get to see the movie until I got the DVD months later lol

    HELLO! I am a 13 year old guitarist and runaways fan(I’m in their top 10 listeners on Apple Music). I love your videos and I love how you made a video about this movie. AND THANK YOU FOR NOT SHITTING ON LITA THAT MUCH 😭😭 yes, I cannot defend Miss Ford about EVERYTHING but I really don’t like when people call her homophobic or mean without doing their research(she’s also my favorite guitarist). Also, thank you for addressing Cherie Currie’s transphobia and Joan Jett’s response towards Jackie’s assault. Usually, everyone focuses on how amazing and hot Joan Jett and Cherie Currie is (I am guilty of this‼️) and they do not focus on how problematic they can be. I really like how your video is not bias and that it focuses on the whole band, rather than Miss Jett and Miss Currie - I was a little disappointed when I watched this film because I wanted to see more about Jackie and Lita.
    I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!🍒💣

    Thank you for addressing Cherie’s transphobia. It’s something I was only recently aware of and it’s so upsetting. I looked up to her so much as a teenager in a rock band. At least we still have Joan I guess, she’s always been my favorite and she’s supportive of trans people so my only issue is really her defense of Kim. I love this movie so much!

    I was a small child when the Runaways was being played on FM radio. I was also a Joan Jett and Letta Ford fan in the 1980s as a teenager. I wish the movie had focused also on the other girls in the band. It's kinda hard to find info on Vickie Blue, Letta Ford, ect on the Internet in general. Cherie Curry and Joan Jett weren't the only interesting ladies in the band.

    Finally I’ve found my people 🙌 this movie was also one of my gay awakenings in 2010, when I tell you I followed the press and trailers RELIGIOUSLY for this movie, I am not lying. Solidly from like mid 2009 through to mid 2010 I was making sure I heard every update. I was worried it wouldn’t even premiere in Australia! It did, and I still have my DVD from when it came out, and my copy of Neon Angel by Cherie Currie, the memoir the movie was based on.
    And if anyone tried to tell me back then that Kstew was a bad actor, I’d tell them to watch this. I STILL do. Dakota’s performance…eeehhh hasn’t aged as well. Sometimes comes across as “teenager in school play trying to sound angry and not uncomfortable when swearing”. But it’s still really solid. Michael Shannon as Kim Fowley stole the show tho, he’s soooo accurate to the real Kim Fowley from what I’ve seen in documentaries.

      The kiss ALSO altered my brain chemistry to the point where I was no longer straight (seriously I was a lil baby questioning 15 year old and I came out the following year.) I just remember them talking about having to put something between their bodies since Dakota was underage?
      PS I wrote my comment before I started watching the video proper and saw Cherie's transphobic tweets NOOOOOOO. So disappointing.

    Incredibly transphobic to urge caution about making irreversible permanent life altering changes in regards to minors? Sounds like Cherie's intentions behind her post were actually coming from a place of genuinely giving a shit about the well being of kids. Why can't anyone express any reasonable critical thoughts/opinions about this issue without getting the transphobe label?

    • @RaeRaatma
      @RaeRaatma  10 месяцев назад +2

      I actually don’t think it’s wrong to express caution about minors making irreversible changes to their body. My point was that Cherie’s views on what being trans is are misguided. Ultimately the only people that should be making decisions about kids transitioning are the kids in question, parents, and doctors. Many doctors agree that gender affirming care is life saving and the spectrum of what that means is really big. Making the generalizations Cherie has made may be coming from a good place but they’re also misinformed and dangerous.

  • @Nomoredrama2000
    @Nomoredrama2000 11 месяцев назад

    Your point about Dakota Fanning being sexualised as a teen is wrong. She's an experienced actress who knew exactly what the movie was saying and what it was about. It's a depiction of exploitation, not an endorsement of it. And if you thought what Dakota was doing in this movie was bad, what about all the pre-teens dancing and twerking to Pound Town or Anaconda? That's something you should be shocked about.

    • @RaeRaatma
      @RaeRaatma  11 месяцев назад +7

      My point was that I would have preferred to see an adult play that character because of how sexual it is. She is a very experienced actress and did an incredible job. I don't think the movie was endorsing exploitation, just that I don't want to see teenagers in corsets.
