- This poem was the official winner of Jeff Bethke's "Jesus Is Greater Than Religion" video contest and was selected as an official trailer to promote his book "Jesus Is Greater Than Religion".
I wrote this to share why a relationship with Jesus is greater than self-righteous moralism. Self-righteous moralism exists so strongly within all religions it can become synonymous with the word "religion" itself. As a result many people believe they have to do more and try harder in order to be good enough for God; yet Jesus shares the revelation that God has loved us first. It is because of his love, acceptance, and mercy that we live obedient to him in gratitude for grace. This poem was inspired by Jefferson Bethke's video "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus" and written in the spirit of his new book "Jesus Is Greater Than Religion".

CLARIFICATION:
The "religion" defined within the poem is self-righteous moralism; not depending on God's grace as a gift given through Jesus but something to be earned through behavior. (see Romans 4:5, 9-11, Ephesians 2:8-10). Self-righteous moralism exists so strongly within all religions it can become synonymous with the word "religion" itself. We do not work or change behavior to earn salvation however true faith in Jesus is naturally accompanied by obeying Him and doing good works after receiving salvation freely by grace through faith. (Eph 2:10, Titus 2:11-14)

I have been fully emersed in the world. I had everything that I could wish for. And that was the lowest time in my life. I found Jesus, and all the things I had seen as cool before just seemed stupid, like I had a higher calling. It's only when you have nothing but Jesus, that you realise Jesus is all you need. :) God bless you all

Such a great message! We all have been morally self-righteous sometimes in our life, and it's videos like these and those of Jefferson Bethke that help me keep myself on my toes. It helps me realize that I don't have to work for my grace, rather I just have to accept Christ into my heart in order to obtain it. That's all. How could you not want other people to hear of our God's grace and mercy!
I seen this video at church tonight and all I can say is wow, it is amazing. Grace is definitely a gift and I am thankful for that gift.
Jesus loved us as we were yet worthless sinners and we can be made righteously through repentance and His blood.
Thank you for your most awakening awareness of who Jesus really is. Thank you for imparting the wisdom to us who would listen and receive and most of all thank you for the love you share with us with all your passion and conviction. Truly Jesus is only one thing and that is LOVE!

This was the best thing you could ever experience because I believe that Jesus loves you and me no matter what and because he loves us he was willing to take what we deserved upon himself. Which is why I hate religion because religion is man trying to reach to God but Christianity is God searching for you and me

I totally agree with you. This is a poem written to challenge self-righteous moralism; doing works as a means to earn salvation. The poem does not negate the importance of works but rather reminds us that good works alone are dead without faith in Jesus (see Eph 2:8-9) just as faith alone is dead without good works (see James 2:24). I expound upon this topic of faith and works in the live performance video on my channel.

It amazes me how so many can watch this video and completely overlook the simplicity and humility this man says about his relationship with The Lord. As the Bible says "the god of this world will cause blinders to be put over the eyes of the unbelievers so they cannot see the truth of the Gospel." (Notice how "god" is not capitalized? That's because it's not God/Yeshua I'm referring to, it's Satan, he is the god of this world at the current time) it's really is sad how many are blind to the truth. I shall keep praying that all here, that were nudged by the Holy Spirit to view this video, that's your chains of bondage in sin is broken and you receive true freedom with acceptance and forgiveness of The Lord Jesus Christ. It means you allow yourself to be blinded by choosing not to believe. you choose to put the blinders on, He says ok and allows you to blind yourself. God gives us free will. What ever you choose is what you choose, but there will either be good consequences or bad consequences based on that choice you have.
The Holy Spirit is moving in Rich's life.

"I come not to bring peace, but to bring a sword" (Matthew 10:34). also a question about jesus and miracles if jesus could randomly heal any blind person he happened to meet, why not just cure blindness? Also why do you believe in jesus? when did you Choose to believe or did you not have a choice?
