I wish I could say that I accidentally found this song, but in fact I'm here because of Tokyo Vice 3-rd episode, like many others :) Nice show, nice song
Also here via Tokyo Vice. Plus, I lived in Japan during my junior year of college (attended Waseda Kokusaibu), so I get a lot of the references and experiences of Adelstein. I even wrote a couple of articles (in English!) for Mainichi Shimbun and did a few things on NHK. That was in the 70s. Arai Yumi was big then, maybe this artist was inspired by her. Catchy song. Clever lyrics!
@@remon563 I live in the Los Angeles area. I was in Japan for 18 months, living in Tokyo, Kyushu, and Tochigi-Ken. So, big cities and rural farmland. It was a great experience!
@@Monscent You might check out the streaming show, “Pachinko”. It’s about. Korean family forcibly immigrated to Japan pre WW2. They struggle to retain their own culture while trying to find success in Japan. They have high hopes for their very bright son, who we see apply to and get entrance to Waseda. It’s fun to hear the constant references to the school as being so prestigious. They depict the school’s earlier buildings.
It's so interesting to see where she began and where she is now. Her music has become more challenging with time, and always kind of mind-blowing. I got to see her in the late '90s in New York, with Momus on guitar. What a memorable show!
Still one of my favorite songs and the album it’s from is still one if my favorite albums. I used the title as a username back in my teens but everyone kept thinking it was from the The Incredibles movie but her name is Elastigirl without the C. So then ppl called me e-girl instead which ironically also came decades before the term e-girl was a thing. Lol
Kahimi was recommended to me almost 15 years ago (before the upload date of this video), and I only just got around to looking her up. Not disappointed.
Nice to meet you, I'm the elastic girl I can move, I can bend, I can do anything Elastic girl friend, yeah I'm one of a kind Watch me move now and disappear Flick of a switch and I can blow Blow your mind out time out find out now Don't be afraid, don't need to hide Look and find me by your side, the elastic girl Last night I dreamed that I could fly (yeah) The sky is mine, under stars that shine A bird up in the sky tonight I can be anything I wanna be Things that you never thought you would see Open your eyes and baby you will find Something in me and you nearly left me behind Changing myself to be next to you watch me move watch what I do I can be anything I wanna be I'm the elastic girl Got something to say tonight I can be anything I wanna be Things that you never thought you would see Open your eyes, baby you will find Something, something you left behind Changing myself to be next to you Watch me move here's something new I can anything I wanna be I'm the elastic girl I never thought I could be able happy again Used to cry, used to try to be my self Elastic girl friend, yeah, I'm happy again I can show you, I can show you how All my dreams they come true Nothing stopping me or in my way I'll show you something, something new Something I found in you, the elastic girl I'll dive down deep into the sea (yeah) In a submarine designed by me I'll take you for a ride tonight We can be anything we wanna be Things that you never thought you would see Open our eyes and baby, we find Something we never should have left behind Changed myself just to be with you But changing you would be harder to do I can be anything I wanna be Cause I'm the elastic girl
woah.... i always thought that negishi (AKA krauser) loved this artist that .wasn't real.... but she is... i was surprised to hear the music and it was how i imagined to be really pop soft music!
From what I read (on a blog site who knew them both) she was the girlfriend and muse of Cornelius Keigo Oyamada however, he was a tad controlling hence her fleeing to Paris..
Funny. . .i woulda' never heard of her were it not for all the times her name was dropped in 'Detroit Metal City'. It seems Krauser's alter-ego is a big fan of hers, lol.
Ik this comment is 5 years old, but fun fact: the harmonica player for this song, Nobuo Yagi, was actually a part of The Seatbelts group that performed Cowboy Bebop's music! Though Yagi didn't even play on the soundtrack from what I could tell, almost all the crazy harmonica stuff in Cowboy Bebop was done by Ryuichiro Senoo lol
I wish I could say that I accidentally found this song, but in fact I'm here because of Tokyo Vice 3-rd episode, like many others :) Nice show, nice song
Same, I was surprised when they mentioned Kahimi karie, dragon head, and 20th century boys.
Me too!
same:)
Hello there, me too🤭😄

cool piece of history! where do you live now and what was your experience in Japan like?

Wow, that is interesting.
I was at waseda 2008-2009 and yeah, the show does remind me alot about the feel of the city too

I actually found out about her on my own! I’ve never seen the show you guys watched but thank you for loving Kahimi Karie!

If you're still alive, could you tell me a little bit about the show?
Mind if I reply to this 12yo comment
Wow 14 year old comment

声良すぎ!歌よすぎ!美人すぎ!
久々に聴いて、あの頃の味がしてきた!今聴いてもイイね
フリッパーズギター
Tokyo Vice brought me here, happy it did.

Gracias Tokyo Vice
Thanks for posting this!! There's no one quite like Kahimi.
damn 15 year old comment
no way, this comment is older than me
カヒミさんってこんな綺麗な人だったんだ
It misses it very much!
It listened well at ..ten years or more ago.. high school days.
Thank you!
22 years ago now
wow i found kahimi karie by accident because of "dis moi quelque chose avant de dormir" and her music is so good!!
Here because of Tokyo Vice.
Nice to meet you, I'm the elastic girl
I can move, I can bend, I can do anything
Elastic girl friend, yeah I'm one of a kind
Watch me move now and disappear
Flick of a switch and I can blow
Blow your mind out time out find out now
Don't be afraid, don't need to hide
Look and find me by your side, the elastic girl
Last night I dreamed that I could fly (yeah)
The sky is mine, under stars that shine
A bird up in the sky tonight
I can be anything I wanna be
Things that you never thought you would see
Open your eyes and baby you will find
Something in me and you nearly left me behind
Changing myself to be next to you
watch me move watch what I do
I can be anything I wanna be
I'm the elastic girl
Got something to say tonight
I can be anything I wanna be
Things that you never thought you would see
Open your eyes, baby you will find
Something, something you left behind
Changing myself to be next to you
Watch me move here's something new
I can anything I wanna be
I'm the elastic girl
I never thought I could be able happy again
Used to cry, used to try to be my self
Elastic girl friend, yeah, I'm happy again
I can show you, I can show you how
All my dreams they come true
Nothing stopping me or in my way
I'll show you something, something new
Something I found in you, the elastic girl
I'll dive down deep into the sea (yeah)
In a submarine designed by me
I'll take you for a ride tonight
We can be anything we wanna be
Things that you never thought you would see
Open our eyes and baby, we find
Something we never should have left behind
Changed myself just to be with you
But changing you would be harder to do
I can be anything I wanna be
Cause I'm the elastic girl
