I purchased a 2.0t insignia that unknowingly had 2k worth of repairs needed. Managed to get my money back but had already sold my previous car. Ended up with a Citroën Xsara Picasso that cost £450. As a 22 year old at the time my mates thought it was hilarious with the rear seat tables 😂
As someone who owns a Yaris T Sport, I can confirm it's a brilliant fun and also a very reliable first car to own. For one, it only weighs around 1000kg, some sources say it's as light as 925kg, so the 105hp it has actually feels reasonably fast, in fact, it feels just as quick in a straight line as my mate's Swift Sport which has 130hp. The stock suspension may not the best for handling as it is naturally fairly high and roll-y, but spend £200 and put it on lowering springs, you can throw it into tight corners like a go kart and it grips very nicely and only really understeers if you were to push it very hard (accelerating around corners before the apex). The steering below 70mph is also quite quick and has a lot of feel. so it's a great option for Autosolos, Touge and B road bashing. In terms of reliability, they are very good. Bought mine at 56k miles in August last year, now at 71k hard driven miles, and hasn't left me stranded once. The 1NZ-FE has been proven to long well over 300k miles with only basic maintenance. The only major issue it has had was a noisy throwout bearing, meaning the clutch got replaced. Other than that, it was just general wear and tear stuff you would find in a 20 year old car. The gearbox is also a work of art. It may be a bit more agricultural than say a Type R, but it's extremely precise and has that notchiness about it that makes it feel very solid. However, like any car, it does have its drawbacks. For one, the standard seating position is very high which may be an issue for those who are taller. The pedal positioning isn't great for heel-toe shifting either. In my experience, the steering can feel loose and very awkward at high speeds, the steering wheel can also shake above 70mph, so it may not be the best car for attacking long sweeping corners on a racetrack, unless this could just be an age related wear and tear issue. On lowering springs, the car is also very crashy and makes a lot of noise on rough roads. But apart from these downsides, it is a brilliant car and I strongly suggest one!
I once bought a 1991 106 1.1 for £100 with 12 months mot and 6 months tax (you could back then.) I was just starting a new job and needed a cheap car, driving home I couldn't believe it was so cheap..... turns out the heating matrix had gone and someone had bypassed it 😂😂 the second cheapest was an old Rover 214 which was £120. I took it on a track day at Castle Combe and then scrapped it when the mot was up for £70. It is actually my RUclips profile pic.
The gearbox bearing issue on the VXR was the killer for me. Had it fixed on my 2008 Arctic Edition at a cost of £2000 and it happened again. I loved that wee car but it was a moneypit
That small Clio is a force to be reckoned with! My friend in his CLA 45 AMG with over 260hp challenged an inconspicous small black Clio to a race down the mountain road and the Mercedes struggled to keep up. It can truly become a little sleeper car.
My first car. A pug 106 for £150. Only had 55K miles on the clock and 1 owner. They were also selling a jag, which my uncle bought. They said if they get full asking price for the jag the Pug can go cheap. My uncle paid for asking price to help me out with my first car 😀
i have been watching this guy for like longggg time, honestly rarely ever misses with these lists. if you are looking for a fun car in the UK JB is the ultimate X for X budget dude
@@lewih585 I do like the R53 but I feel they're getting harder to find in good condition now plus you can get more out of the R56 IMO. I like both and would own both. Honestly not too big on VAG cars. I hear good thing about the 1.9 but I thought the list was decent 😊
Cheapest car ever bought... A Vauxhall Vectra C Estate 2.2i with 155 bhp with 84k on the clock and half a tank of petrol in for £400! All that needed doing was replacing a front wing, which cost me on eBay £16.99 incl. Delivery 🤣. My second cheapest... A Vauxhall Vectra C Estate 1.9 cdti 150 with 83k on the clock for £750. I sold it 5 years later £900.
The Yaris is awesome fun. 100 bhp little cars always were. Will beat lots of other cars in the traffic light grand prix but only up to 50 lol. Lovely noise and they don't make these sorts of cars any more. High revving no turbo.
Don't forget the Suzuki Ignis sport 1.5L,it was the Yaris's rival as both were real close in all aspects. The Yaris edged ahead thou,i'll still chose the Yaris even thou i've driven the Ignis sport many times (I worked for Suzuki, wink wink) Toyota parts everywhere & cheap, easily worked on at home too, insurance not crazy....also v.reliable.
I bought a very very leggy dog of a BMW E46 M3 back in 2018. For just £1,000! It was a bit of a state but I drove it for 2 years had loads of fun then sold it in lockdown for £2,200 🤣💪 so yeah I think that's not bad going!
Don't forget the Suzuki Ignis sport 1.5L,it was great but quite not as good as the Yaris Tsport (Opinions varied)....but v.close indeed. Yaris's will be my personal choice,v.reliable, cheap to run, maintain & insure....can easily work on them at home with parts everywhere at a low cost too.
Can you do a vid on most reliable daily driver? Under 3-5k? Low maintenance, easy insurance, trunk space/4 door/2door, and gas mileage can have sub categories. Liked and subbed.
I drive yaris Sr 1.8 has 133hp. Never gets included in lists but it's faster than t sport and more modern. Can get them from 1.5k. 40mpg and super reliable.
I've owned a number of hot hatches including 106 and 306 Rallyes. Youngsters need to check out a Suzuki swift 1.0 szt. Seriously impressive for no money.
"Yeah but they're not fun cos they're not fast enough innit bruh" I feel like I need to have a go in one of those Clios at some point. Instead, I've booked a couple of test drives in cars which each have more than double the power of anything on this list, because why not... I drove an E53 last weekend and was surprised at the usability of the touch buttons on the steering wheel. I was expecting them to be worthless crap, but no, they are much, *much* worse. As an IT analyst, if I ever implement tech that bad, I will fire myself on the spot. Cheapest car I've bought was my 1st car: a 1998 Fiat Punto. It broke down once for each horsepower it had. I loved owning a car because *freedom!* but it was pretty bad, although sounded worryingly decent...
Definitely would not call a Yaris T-sport a Hot hatch & not sure a Fiesta ST 150 is either. Definitely the later generations are certainly the last with the 3cyl Turbo with 197bhp. Definitely a Clio RS182 is which i had 1 years ago a 54plate fantastic car.
You showed the photos of a Pug 206 GTI 138 but the specs shown are for a GTI 180. The 180 is the better car, but is much rarer and I doubt you'd get one for £3k. The 138 had 138bhp and 0-60 in about 8 secs. Best version of the 138 is anything after multiplexing, 2003 onwards. The GTI HDI is not a hot hatch, it has a 110bhp diesel lump.
once i pass my test, i wanna try & get either an older corsa black edition (2010-ish), a yaris t-sport or an ibiza fr... out of these which is better??
I can't comment on how any of those drives, but statistically speaking 2 of them have a reasonable chance of exploding by the time you get into 2nd gear...so as a 1st car the Yaris seems the best option. If your 1st car doesn't break and lasts indefinitely, you don't have to replace it with a bad car if it breaks and you can't afford the 2nd car you really want. Instead, you can keep your reliable 1st car until you can afford your ideal 2nd car, since if your 1st car is any sort of dream car, it's definitely a terrible 1st car, obviously 😄

Second should be the f20 120d as well, 184 bhp easily remapped to 220-230bhp 0-60 in 7.3 seconds and look newer than the e82
