The turbo is never a factor in pitch, only volume. The firing interval is what affects pitch. For example, F1’s V6’s sound sound bad not because they are turbocharged, but because the exhaust from both sides merge. So it having a 90° bank angle and shared crank pins, what is heard is a 90-150-90-150-90-150 firing interval instead of the 240-240-240 layout (inline 3 sound) of the 80s V6’s that had split exhausts. So to fix the current F1 sound, I hope they go to A 90° V4 (180° crankshaft) engine, which has a firing interval of 90-180-270-180, the same as each individual bank on a 90° V8 (90° crankshaft). So it would sound nearly identical to this Sauber C9 here. Please spread the word.
@@gigagdragoon2345are you really sure? Turbo cars always sound totally different to NA or supercharged? And never heard any 4 cylinder engine sound like a v8? And unfortunately the days of F1 sounding good are long gone!
Open wastegates short exhaust paths and large turbine housings make the difference compared to todays 100k rpm small turbos tuned to make full boost below 2k rpm. Oh and since the hot side of the turbo changes exhaust pulse frequency and physical volume of exhaust pulses they absolutely change pitch. Hence why they tend to muffle the exhaust.
A shame the sound in that game is incorrect. Rather than Polyphony using any of the American V8 sound samples they had, they use the Toyota TS020 V8 instead for the C9.
American and european V8 sound very different, mostly because of the ignition timing and/or order.. and various other intake parts. You should check out the C8.. it has a more classic american V8 sound
@@mortenfrosthansen84 well except it being a dohc and boosted its pretty much the american style, long piston stroke a crossplane crank and with that also the same ignition timing as pretty much all us v8s. To this day all amg v8 engines and also the sister v12‘s are crossplane engines except some for paganis but i mean we wont hear em anyway.
@@bigd5899 I'd still say, very big difference in US and european V8.. Both design and sound. Ignition timing is not the same. Perhaps the american ones have changed recently, to a more european-like. Especially in the new Corvette

One of the best V8 engines I've ever heard.
The c9 sounds awesome, it incredible how Sauber and Mercedes got that exhaust note, even though there are two turbo’s chopping up the sound.
