Should have installed bedding compound for that new gasket. Especially considering that this was a "how to" video.
Great video. Swapped mine in a few hours by myself thanks to your video.
What sealant type did you use for windshield groove?

Thanks for suppling the tools and the locking strips I needed for my 86 k-10.
All these tips were very helpful. I have never done a glass install before and I managed to install the rear slider and the windshield by myself.
Pretty tricky stuff you guys. You defiantly need patience so you don't brake anything, but it is doable. If you have a good helper then it should be even more doable for most people to atempt if they have the right tools..
+richaroodledoodle I'm glad the video gave you the confidence to tackle this and to get it done!
Can i reuse my old locking strip with a new seal.?
Yes of course as long as its not damaged
Are those bullet holes?
Very helpful video. As you say,…..this video is for demonstration purposes, and you didi not apply any sealant.
What kind of sealant do you recommend, and do you only apply it to the body groove in the gasket, and not the window groove??
richaroodledoodle To properly seal up a WCR 848
you would want to apply 3M Bedding and Glazing compound onto the body before
installing the gasket to the cab. After the glass is inserted into the gasket
you want to follow behind and apply 3M Window Weld into the gasket before
installing the lock strip.
***** Thanks for the info. I will get these products before I install the windshield.
I have one more question for you if you don't mind answering it.
I got my complete rubber kit from Brothers truck parts in Cal. u.s.a.
The windshield and back slider did not come with the locking strips.
I was wondering if the windshield and the back slider use the same locking strip?
Who would be the best supplier of there items ??
richaroodledoodle They do take the same lockstrip and you can also get that from Brothers. Is your slider original or aftermarket?
I wasn't sure if they used the same locking strip or not.
I am not sure if it is the original slider or not? The rest of the truck is,..and it still has he original paint, so I am assuming it is original. The slider is aluminum in colour and has a double flange where it seats into the rubber gasket. Will it make a difference if it is an after market slider weather or not the same locking strip will be used.
Thank you for your time and the info. Enjoy.
richaroodledoodle That slider sounds like its original. The lockstrip is not the problem it's the thickness of the flange. Like you say the flange is double wide and therefore will not work with aftermarket weatherstrip. Measure the thickness of that flange, it's probably about 8mm where as the channel in the gasket is 5mm. Aftermarket sliders are made with the 5mm flange.
is it the same install instructions for a 89 s10/blazer?
No, the S10 is completely different. It uses a pvc molding and is glued in. We recommend contacting a professional auto glass technician for installation.
Could I use KY jelly to lubricate the seal?
Just use soapy water.
I would like to see a video for fitting the WCR 853 seal and locking strip on the chevy g20 if you have it?
Do you folks have a video for WCK D1161. The Chevy van seems to be a bit different.
Sorry, at this time we do not.
that lock strip clip is fighting me more than anything else ive done on this whole entire truck. every time I try and seat it it wants to fold forward. what can I do to prevent this.
Hi Mike, thanks for the comment! That lockstrip is very tricky to get seated. I assume that you are using the correct lockstrip insert tool as well as glass cleaner? It could be many factors. Why don't you give us a call and ask for either Greg or Derek and we'll see if we can help!
after a little fussing with it I was finally able to get it in! I just chalked it up to being cold. Thanks for the quick response!
I had my windshield replaced but water leaks to the inside of the cab. I got the four gaps shown on 8:58 on this video. I know mine wasnt installed right. What do i need to do to fix this problem? Do i need a new gasket and locking chrome strip?
The old gasket had factory sealer on the pinch weld. Is that required with the new gasket?
+pete brady It's not required but is something we recommend. Check out our 55-59 Chevy truck windshield install that shows the inclusion of both the urethane and bedding/glazing compound.
the chrome locking strip inside gasket is all yellow and would like to replace that. do i have to remove windshield to replace? or can i just pull out the old one and install the new one with windshield in tact?
You only need to remove the center clip and lockstrip. No need to remove the windshield.
Hey, Guys, can you guy do a video on replacing a windshield on a G20 Van? I got a 1994 G20 Chevy Van. I had to change the windshield twice the first time, they used a universal moulding and a lot of glue and I ended up with rust issues so the second Time I get the rust fixed and I get a "Precision replacement WCK D1161" full kit. and the new guy fitting my Windshield can't work it out how to fit. telling me I wasted my money and to send it back.
The WCK D1161 has been on the market for years as an application specific OE replacement. I would suggest you finding another installer who knows how to glue in these G Van moldings.
Precision Replacement Parts
You do have a point there BUT there are less than 100 Chevy Vans on the road at a guess down here in New Zealand and being nearly 21 years since they stopped making them so there more likely to find more places who won't have any idea how to do it
Why don't you email us at info@prp.com and we'll get some tech help to you,
The 3 steps of gasket set auto glass 1- unlock lock strip and kick-out, 2-attach gasket to glass with retention tape, 3- set glass to body, rope set and re-attach lock strip. (note: when rope setting, pull top first.)
That's not how you install this weatherstrip. Many people try to put this on the glass first and complain that it's too big. The weatherstrip goes on the body first then you install the glass.
Derek C. all the years I've been doing this I found that rope setting is the fastest. You simply tape the loose fitting gasket to the glass and rope it in. I can set an 848 in a half hour or less.
Looking forward to your newest video on re & re-ing a back sliding window for the 73-87 chevy trucks , and the adhiecive products you use.
Thanks lot for your support, already I asked about how to fix it in your previos tube on 62-72 windsheild install and on this one you complete your promisse ..great informative DIY , thumbs up
Thanks lot, as you promised me earlier you post this helpfull tube, and I got mine installed perfectly
Yall guys make it look easy!i cant see how the company i hired to install mine cracked it?
The windshield install of the squarebodies is one of the easier of the Chevy trucks to do. The installer should stick to urethane set installs and leave the classics alone. Don't use them again. Let us know if you need any guidance.
@@PrecisionReplacementParts there saying the pinch weld on the driverside upper corner is bent some amd thats why it cracked.im going to pick up the replacement and try it myself
@@jaimesmommy01 Lets minimize any further issues and reach out to the two guys in this video. tech@prp.com drop your phone number in the email and Greg will call you back.
I replaced mine last summer and now its a rusty color. Looks like complete sh@t!
If it's our product, we will send a replacement. Please send an email to tech@prp.com
@@PrecisionReplacementParts Yes. I sought out your brand specifically because I was told you were the best. I'll send an email now.
@@JonnyBlazeTCB Received. Thanks Jon!
Terrible video, leaves out all the most important parts 100 thumbs down imo
Feel free to add more to the conversation by stating all the parts that we've left out.
The slipping over of the pinch weld . Show how the seal goes correctly or how us non professional windshield guys could possibly have the seal in wrong ,
And how to know the new seal is the proper 1 . I believe I may have been sent the wrong one .
Which is glass groove vs lock track
