Have had mine for about 4 months now and coming from owning the Ally Z1 Extreme I’m honestly so pleased with it. Small changes with just the 2 USBC ports and the bigger battery has been a game changer. It’s my daily device at this point. Not that I didn’t like the steam deck but being in the military and having to travel so much and have to create reports, or plans for my guys it’s so convenient that I can just take my foldable keyboard out and jump on Microsoft office and do what I need to do then jump back to gaming. Definitely was a little tricky to get used to but now it’s just second nature and man I love it.
@@joshuafilibus3495 sorry boss actually gave it to my brother in law since he just graduated and is discovering the busy life of being an adult with not a lot of sit down game time.
Made the jump from my PS5 to a handheld running SteamOS, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer. It feels like upgrading from a Honda Civic to a Porsche 911. Windows might have its crowd, but Bazzite/SteamOS just nails the experience-clean, smooth, and effortless.
Got one in October, upgraded the storage size, got a dock, protection, and wireless controllers/headset, and I love it. Especially when I go visit family I can still take my daily games with me.
i love my ally and ally x but windows 11 can piss me off sometimes. fingerprint sensor doing what they want on both devices and windows / microsoft store update problems from time to time. but playing aaa, indie and retro games (emudeck) everywhere is such a game changer and cant wait for the official steamos release. got the ally x for 750 and the ally for 450 + travel case and charger dock as a gift (euro not dollar)
I think of the ROG Ally X as my personal upgrade substitute for the PS6, coming from console my whole life. I dont mind the intial set up for the ally x as Ive never even played on a PC before. I embrace the change.
5:55 it’s based on personal preferences, I got an Ally X, for flexibility of playing games that Steam Deck can’t, BUT also loving the Steam OS that just works. The sleep/resume gaming is too good! Best of both worlds 🍻
I definitely still love my ally X, for my issue lies more so finding the time to actually play with it a bit more often. I have considered dual booting using Bazzite but ran into some issues the 1st time around and said to myself screw it, I’ll wait for valve to release it themselves 😂. I think the sleep/wake function would make it more similar to picking up your cellphone in which you don’t have to waste time on windows needing to boot up.
I know what you mean, time is the biggest gaming killer for me too! I'll definitely consider dual booting when native SteamOS drops but currently not fussed about Bazzite. Yeah the wake/sleep function is needed on PC, Windows NEEDS to adapt for these handheld PCs. I'd love a way of saving game graphics settings as profiles too to switch between handheld/egpu easier.
7:03 I'd argue what makes PC handhelds are that they're for both. They're easy to get into for console users AND PC enthusiasts/tinkerers can customize it to get the exact thing they want out of it. It's the best of both worlds imo
Just the fact that i can finally be free from Linux and the steam deck will be a relief for me, as soon as i get used to the rog ally x, my deck OLED will be sold soon after, no more rubbish tinkering!
I played cyberpunk 2077 for about an hour on this thing it was VERY satisfying. For someone who doesn’t wanna build a PC or have a whole desktop this is PERFECT for me
I found you guys while researching the Ally X. Thank you so much for all the helpful vids and suggestions. I've had my Ally X for about a month, and I adore it. The fact that it runs windows instead of a linux OS was one of the top selling features for me as it's not just a gaming console but a full on PC. I do agree that Windows should create a Handheld or "Lite" version for these machines without all the app clutter. At the moment I'm using separate console-specific emulators to play my games and I'm enjoying all the nostalgia it's brought back. Having windows loaded on this machine makes me feel confident that I will be able to play my old console games for years to come without having to upgrade due to operating system or hardware incompatibilities. At least until Win11 reaches EOL, that is.
I came from the OG Steam Deck to the Rog Ally Z1 and now to the Ally X. At first I missed the micro control that steam deck gives over the fps and refresh rate of the device. As well as the polish of everything just working. The biggest help was learning exactly how VRR works and how to utilize the tools in armory crate. I used to swear by the Steam Deck FPS adjustment settings but now I rarely ever engage an FPS lock unless it's too get a stable 30fps in super demanding games like avatar frontiers of pandora. Usually I just let the framerate jump around if it's running over 40fps in VRR window
Honestly a lot of my issues with armory crate features not working was me not using them correctly. Like the armory crate fps cap doesn't work unless it's on BEFORE you boot the game.
I love my Ally X. After work when I go upstairs with my family (I work from home) I bring this up with me and play a few hours while my son watches TV. Currently playing Dragon Quest 3 remaster on it and it's been great. I don't play FPS games with a controller because I'm trash without a mouse and keyboard but I can see how people would love it for the VRR screen for these.
As a former steam deck fanboy, i originally intended to upgrade to the OLED version but I randomly came across the rog ally x & now I'm obsessed with it 😅 I NEED IT 🤩🤩
I had the deck OLED for a year since launch and switched to the white Z1E Ally and I love it so much more. Superior game compatibility and significantly better graphics/performance are game changers. Battery life sucks on the non-X but i got it for half the price and always play plugged in so it’s worth it for me. My favorite tech purchase in years, I use it daily. Just install Playnite launcher on it and boot into full screen (to avoid seeing windows most of the time), and change the sleep function to hibernate to improve the experience. This will hold me over til the Z2E comes out to see if that’s a worthy upgrade
@ek3jay828 I agree. I hate when people make things into a war lol. There is something suitable for everyone. I'll always love the steam deck & as soon as they release a SD OLED 2 I'll pre order it straight away.
@extra4542 Yeah i think if you've got the Ally Z1E then there's not really much reason to upgrade unless you have the cash to spare. It's practically the same thing just with a better battery and a few minor upgrades
@@zavvage93 100% mate I originally wanted a steam deck as I had my heart set on it then I started seeing the limitations like not being able to run all your games without workarounds, I’m not very tech savvy so opted for the rog ally instead for ease of use and it’s been amazing so far, had it a week and blown away how I can play gamepass natively and through the cloud while I’m in bed along with steam, rockstar, epic games, Ubisoft etc it’s pretty insane and we wouldn’t have any of this if the steam deck never existed
I'm happy with the Ally X's hardware for the next few years, I just want Microsoft to give us a Windows-based version of SteamOS or Bazzite so I can have the console experience on a Windows PC without having to deal with the desktop and windowed apps in Windows
I’m glad it runs Windows due to my accessibility needs. I can map some of the Ally’s keys to the windows magnifier. Steam deck has a magnifier but it’s not usable. As games have built in accessibility; I’m finding the features won’t work on the steam deck, like forza horizon 5 has a screen reader, for instance, and Katawa Shoujo has a self voicing mode that won’t work on Linux. I also had a Sony VAIO UMPC (ultra mobile personal computer) way back in 06 so now this is like a UMGC (ultra mobile gaming computer) which is neat. :-)
I do not own the Ally X but I've owned the original since launch day. I plan to wait and see what comes out at CES. I would prefer to stick with the ROG brand.
I literally just returned mine today. I couldn’t stand it, I spent more time on the settings screen than actually playing. But I’m glad I picked it up cause now I know windows gaming just isn’t for me.
I have a gaming pc and the Ally X. I adore both and both have different functions and use cases. I see the £800 thing as being a bit of a counter argument for buying the ally X. Realistically you will be able to buy a £600 Tower. I think the X is a solid intro into the PC universe.
I just bought ROG Ally X, and the right trigger has an issue (different sound and feel). I looked up Reddit, and many people face a similar problem. Does anyone here also have the same issue with the trigger?
Apparently the hinges are built different, that's why but still annoys me a lot, thinking about returning it and getting the legion go, really love the battery on the rog ally x
It’s Best Buy that has 2 TB version. I am enjoying mine currently upgraded mine to 4TB storage D-Brand Killswitch. I’m thinking of E-GPU I kinda need more convenient E-GPU enclosure
The switch did one thing really well. I had switch with 2 pairs of joycons with Mario Party, Mario Kart, and smash. If I split the joycon I technically had 4 controllers. Small gimmick controllers but 4 controllers. But day 1, and I could entertain 4 friends. I eventually got more couch co-op and pvp games with a few pro controllers. But the switch has basically replaced board games in my house. These reviews often forget the couch co-op function. I can boot it up, and it just works, with games like shredders revenge, I've entertained 6 people at once. And to top it off ? I can play it while I steal time at work or in bed. I think reviewers need to take that factor into account. I have multiple social circles with friends at varying degrees of gaming. Covid put these things in everyone's hands. So any new console in this size and use case will be graded by that metric. At least for me and the way I use it.
I just ordered the onexfly f1 pro cos of the oled no bezel screen . Kinda expensive but looks cool and I will compare the two when i get the OneXFly soon .
With the ASUS ROG ALLY X you would get at least 4-6 of longevity. There will be optimization updates. ASUS shows that they are willing to make it work with the updates done to Armory Crate. I‘m ready to sell my PS5 and stick with my OLED SD and my ASUS ROG ALLY X.
I just love your passion for the device because I am personally in love with it too. But I have an issue recently with EA Play games where they just freeze Armory Crate and EA Play keeps open under Armory Crate which ruins the immersion for me. Another thing I donno if you experienced it is the squeaky triggers and dpad. Have you experienced it? Because it's really annoying.
Oh that's annoying, I haven't played any EA games recently on it! My Dpad isn't squeeky but my right trigger is, however; it only became squeeky after I removed the JSAUX modcase and it hit the trigger with force, think it's a spring out of place slightly issue
Hey Guys, want to ask you guys a question! I noticed in your videos that you have a metal ring for magnetic accessories on your skull and Co Case… do you find any downsides or changes in the fans? Been wanting to do that but wasn’t sure about how it would effect the fans.
As someone who only wants a device to play steam games with friends, is this device worth it? They're trying to convince me to buy this but I'd rather just buy a $300-400 desktop. What do you guys think? I have no interest in gaming on the go.
I got my ally x for $600 used and bought a 4tb for $200. Im going to dual boot so i get the best of both worlds. Plus I already have an egpu so I'm so ready for the hybrid experience of handheld and desktop
never had a pc like that tbh and i got a rog laptop and loved it and a little while later i ended up buying an ally x and i love both my ausus products ive even upgraded the ssd"s in both the ally and my laptop i also only ever had xbox brand new to pc but i want to build a computer soon
I noticed how the Ally X didn't get a single discount in the UK over Black Friday, whilst it got $100 off in the US, down to $699. I just love being used as a price gouged cash cow to subsidise US consumers...😏
Got mine delivered on launch day. I already had a Steam deck oled. Which I sold soon after. I love the Ally X. Got quite a few games in my library. Currently playing Red dead redemption and dead space 2. Oldies but look great on the small screen
I have a question about a weird bug with my rog ally x . Every time I leave my ally closed or hibernating for more than a day it hangs and get stuck when I open it. I always have to force restart it and it works instantly . But having to restart it every time is very annoying . Do you know what I can do please?😊
Two weeks I do like it but I get hiccups with the ROG launcher where it won’t navigate when I use the joystick or I have to tap on it for it to launch a game after I reboot the system. It starts working fine, but it’s really really annoying..
@11:00 this info really really helped me thanks alot appreciate it . That was really my question . ( so docking to big monitor will not change performance on games as long as resolution and settings are the same )
Why Asus hasn't released AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 for the ally yet? It's weird, it has been months already since AMD officially released this feature.
@@jhonrock2386 hahaha yeah sure did, nice to see it released though. I’m just not sure how practical it actually is in reality. Stable screen rate is almost better than high fps. I just don’t see how you can double the frame rate without it being mostly smoke and mirrors. I gather the software behind it but I don’t think it looks smooth personally, despite what the number say.
The layout of these handhelds can be a problem like I kinda get why they put the SD card reader by the fan maybe in hopes to cool it cause SD cards can get hot and the battery was in the way at the bottom but still
Hi guys, can someone help me here. I am unable to launch my games from Armoury Crate SE. When I try to launch any of the games I downloaded it ask me Game Profile Templates- Gamepade Mode, Keyboard/Mouse Mapping, Desktop Mode. I am lost. Can someone tell me what to do and also make a video for this? I think it will really help. Also I not able to play Fifa 25 offline, without connecting it to the Internet first ?
wait so the motherboards were changed to fix the SD card reader issue? if this is true then iv had mine a week so should be good to go with an SD card?
@ I don’t have the ally x I have the rog ally instead, I know an update changed the fan curve and I rarely play at 30w anyway but hoping motherboard was about the rog ally and not the x variant
How have you guys found Stalker 2 running in ally x? It's the first game I've come across on my ally X that it just can't play even at 720p, FSR 3 etc.. everything else I've played is great after a small amount of tweaking
@@alistairking1550 not tried it on the ALLY X but I know the game has serious issues anyway, apparently the Devs are working to fix stuff but who knows if it'll get optimised enough
I am honestly not interested in any future new device as I have over 1000 games in my unnecessary backlog and the Ally x is more than capable My question is how much is it to replace the battery as in maybe 3 years I can see battery degradation.
@@mrb3991 for sure! Super hyped for a couple years time when they shows up but it'll still be underpowered Vs PC handhelds since Xbox will want it as low priced as possible to shift as many units as possible. Should still be capable though!
I really think touchpads are over rated. If you're going to get into a game like an rts you're not only going to need a mouse but a keyboard for shortcuts and button inputs. I loved the touchpads on the Steam Deck but I found myself wanting a normal mouse and keyboard after using them for 2 seconds in a game. Also the Rog Ally X has a touch screen 😂 windows does have bespoke touch controls with gestures and shortcuts
I think one thing you guys aren't considering is Switch 2 should launch in like 3-6 months. It could end in in a power range in between Steam Deck and Rog Ally X. Nvida DLSS support and Nintendo first party on a handheld will be a first and depending on power and optimization for on single device you could see itcoming close to Rog Ally X. It depends what you want though since Switch 2 you might have to rebuy games if you aren't already invested in Nintendo software. So yeah if you invested in PC store fronts might be better if you don't wanna spend on games all over again. Depends if you really want the Nintendo games too.
@@SchlumplesSchlumolomus-u9u It's geared to all ages not kids, but if it's not to your own taste fine. You can think whatever you want but data says it's user base is older not younger.
I unfortunately had to get rid of my ROG Ally X. I went through three of them. I had a super frustrating graphics card error that kept occurring while playing games, that didn’t give me a chance to save my progress. I returned it and got a PlayStation five Pro and the PlayStation portal to play remote.
I install Bazzite because i want a handheld which I know I can fully rely on to work offline. And a handheld which I know is only for gaming and I don't have to worry about my data being collected by Microsoft and co.

I have a SD OLED, should I make the upgrade?
There is a word "video" in video game. I cannot compromise for any low graphic just for gameplay. Better not play than play in the blurry graphic
I noticed how the Ally X didn't get a single discount in the UK over Black Friday, whilst it got $100 off in the US, down to $699.
I just love being used as a price gouged cash cow to subsidise US consumers...😏
yeah I was expecting to see something too :/
@128KB Curry's will probably start fire selling them at £599 a day after the Ally 2 is announced next year.
I was hoping for this to but it’s not looking likely at all for and discount in the UK
@@BigBoostLewis Nor in Canada
In Australia it is still sold at $1599 AUD which is equivalent to $1,035 USD. And thats the price I got it after 5months it is out lol
Got mine delivered on launch day. I already had a Steam deck oled. Which I sold soon after. I love the Ally X. Got quite a few games in my library. Currently playing Red dead redemption and dead space 2. Oldies but look great on the small screen
Do you miss the SD OLED atall? I’m really torn between the two.
The ally x is def better then the claw 7 and the new claw 8
Intel just can’t compete with AMD with mobile devices
( so docking to big monitor will not change performance on games as long as resolution and settings are the same )
Steam OS completely dominates all handhelds
Why Asus hasn't released AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 for the ally yet? It's weird, it has been months already since AMD officially released this feature.
Just manually install it. There’s a really nice video by Nelly on how to do it. Will take you around 20mins. And it’s totally worth it
Looks like your wishes have just been answered!
@captaintruth Yeah, I saw it. It took long enough... hahaha...
The real question is it worth buying this when I already have the legion go?
That's a no for me. If the screen size is not a concern and portability is a factor, replacing the Go for an Ally X makes sense
wait so the motherboards were changed to fix the SD card reader issue? if this is true then iv had mine a week so should be good to go with an SD card?
Sd cards work on the X, they fixed the issue. Been using mine for months with no issues. I only play indie type games on the sd card tho.
@ I don’t have the ally x I have the rog ally instead, I know an update changed the fan curve and I rarely play at 30w anyway but hoping motherboard was about the rog ally and not the x variant
What are your thoughts on when the Ally x will officially receive fluid motion frames 2 gpu update?
They're going to implement it, I just don't know why it's taking so long :( hopefully soon
RDNA 4.0 is goin to be the big upgrade
How have you guys found Stalker 2 running in ally x? It's the first game I've come across on my ally X that it just can't play even at 720p, FSR 3 etc.. everything else I've played is great after a small amount of tweaking
@@alistairking1550 not tried it on the ALLY X but I know the game has serious issues anyway, apparently the Devs are working to fix stuff but who knows if it'll get optimised enough
It works fine on ally x
I am honestly not interested in any future new device as I have over 1000 games in my unnecessary backlog and the Ally x is more than capable My question is how much is it to replace the battery as in maybe 3 years I can see battery degradation.
I honestly don’t know, but doubt it would be that bad to do.
what game is playing at 24:24?
Fortnite: Skibidi Toilet Edition
@@deluge6479wrong
Do you guys know it has a touch screen?
That's your track pad
Hay bought my own and im struggling to get duckstation and xemu running but other then that its a great handheld
What’s the game in 2:12 ?
I believe its a hot wheels racings game. I don't know the exact name
Correct, it's Hot Wheels Unleashed, footage shows it playing on Switch but Unleashed 2 is on Game Pass so I've been playing that on the ALLY X
@ now I remember lol. Thanks for the full name
HDR support would be nice
very true
Hi if Xbox are working on a handheld that should be interesting ?
@@mrb3991 for sure! Super hyped for a couple years time when they shows up but it'll still be underpowered Vs PC handhelds since Xbox will want it as low priced as possible to shift as many units as possible. Should still be capable though!
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT GAME HE IS PLAYING MIN 16:15 PLEASE!!!
Prince of Persia Lost Crown!
whats frustrating is that Microsoft had an os that would have worked great on devices like these.....windows 8 would be perfect for these
I really think touchpads are over rated.
Dude Nintendo has quite literally zero game exclusives I would play. I don't see the comparison. Their library is geared to kids man.
@@SchlumplesSchlumolomus-u9u It's geared to all ages not kids, but if it's not to your own taste fine. You can think whatever you want but data says it's user base is older not younger.
Ah I personally can't wait for Switch 2 but I don't see it as competition over something like the ALLY X, more so something to run alongside it!
What game is that at 3:57
Destiny 2
I unfortunately had to get rid of my ROG Ally X. I went through three of them. I had a super frustrating graphics card error that kept occurring while playing games, that didn’t give me a chance to save my progress. I returned it and got a PlayStation five Pro and the PlayStation portal to play remote.
The PS5 is the PS5
The Xbox is the Xbox
©️the switch is the switch©️
I’ve trademarked that… £10k please

Bought and sold it . The screen with those big bezels is horrendous.
Sure
Look how he ĥahaha like it's super annoying
Windows, freedom, Linux, no freedom?
...what the fuck LOL
I install Bazzite because i want a handheld which I know I can fully rely on to work offline. And a handheld which I know is only for gaming and I don't have to worry about my data being collected by Microsoft and co.
Handhelds are still not yeah thet. Still choo toppy.
people just make a big deal out of Windows PC it's like their brainwash
Eh it sucks. But the Linux community is the worst I've ever seen. Windows is horrific though
