@@kindnessandgracestaysmilin5990 unfortunately meat makes me very sick so I don't hunt. I'd like to shoot a turkey with a crossbow or bow. I guess I could hunt deer for the skulls and antlers and donate the meat but I don't need skulls. I get deer in my yard all the time at night. I just watch them and think they're lucky. But donating meat to the hungry is great. Good luck.

Most will understand the "soaking up the hunt"....finally got my little boy on a decent buck last year ( his first). We sat for this buck several times without any luck, but we were seeing him on another man's adjoining property while we were sitting on ours. My son wanted that buck soooo bad. I went and begged the man that owns the land for permission for that buck ( he hunts too). Gave us permission and he shot it the first sit on that man's land....I got teary eyed thinking about it when you were talking about soaking up the hunt. That day was a day I still soak up. Sat there that night watching my boy excited over that buck while checking him out after we found him beats any hunt I ever had experienced. Know y'all don't care lol but I wrote this anyways. I think that was a wonderful hunt. And to cook the potatoes with the elk steak marinated in Italian dressing that is absolutely amazing that is exactly how my dad loves elk steak and I bet if he would have tasted it he would have said it was amazing 10 out of 10 probably.
Congratulations! Don't get down on your shots because you followed up with shots that killed him and he died fast. That makes it ethical. Some people get on me cuz I'll run up on a deer that I shot and I know I didn't shoot it correctly but that deer dies fast.
Even though it's too late but your next elk either send it to a processor or buy a saw yourself and do some bone-in steaks. Cook them like a good beef steak salt pepper let it rest with some butter on top. To me even better than a beef steak.

Wow guys what a hunt and lots of memories made... there was probably 50+ of guys in that big boy.. throw those spuds in the microwave for like 90 seconds or so, poke a hole in them 1st tho..

I bow hunt and rifle but idk why people like using a bow over a rifle, I've killed with both and I honestly prefer making a kill with my rifle
Just the challenge and up close and personal aspect of bowhunting. More of an adrenaline rush in my opinion but it's different for everyone

Awesome commentary, awesome hunt. I hope to chase a bull with my bow one day, just killed my first deer on a spot and stalk 2 weeks ago. But my main comment is your cooking; you have a very simple yet good recipe there, both for steak and those potatoes. I've never heard of either of those techniques. I'll try it with venison tenderloins and see how it goes! Congratulations!

So happy for you, congrats on an absolute stud mature bull! I'm 46 and have always loved hunting whitetails here in the Midwest and hearing those bull elk bugle sends chills down my spine every time. It's a dream of mine to experience it some day, my wife and I have nine children so I don't know if it will become a reality for me, but living it through guys like you and LakeForkGuy here on RUclips keeps my hopes alive!
