Ah, Brawl. The game that introduced you to themes you had no idea existed. Just like how Smash introduced us to characters we had no idea existed. Brawl certainly lives up to its position as an entry in the Smash series.

Fun fact: when I first played Super Smash Bros Brawl, I had never played Super Mario Land, nor did I know anything about Lucas or Mother 3, so when I was playing Subspace Emissary on the underground ruins level, I thought this song was from whatever (then unknown) game Lucas was from
i always thought it was an earthbound song when i played brawl because it played when i was unlocking lucus
until i wanted to look at the super mario songs in super smash bros ultimate and found this

Say what you want about Brawl, but it has by far the best soundtrack out of any of the Smash games. It has so many gems, like this one, as well as the title theme, Meta Knight’s Revenge, Step: The Cave, Stickerbush Symphony, Waluigi Pinball, King Dedede’s Theme, I could go on for days

Nintendo put so much effort into Wii game soundtracks, Brawl, Galaxy 1, 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Wario Land Shake It, Super Paper Mario, etc.
Those "Hey" vocal effects makes this track feel like something out of Cho Aniki. Now I can imagine Princess Daisy doing a showgirl routine with those two jocks from said Japanese-only franchise. Can you?

@@ikagura Yes, the PS2 game. Joel, from #Vinesauce did a playthrough of that once. In fact, the soundtrack from that game is done in the same style as their debut 1992 PC-Engine game, which I can appreciate for it's consistency even if each track is only 30 seconds long on average.
It's not surprising since it's composer Koji Hiyama did this arrangement.

i remember playing smash bros brawl a lot during the summer. I was 10 at the time and when i got to this part of Subspace Emissary, all i can think of is the 80-90F degree heat when going outside to play with my cousins. Good times

I like how this song plays in Subspace Emissary in a level that Mario is _NOT_ even in during the main campaign.
In fact, not a single Mario character goes to The Ruins during the main campaign.
That's why at first i thought it was a Earthbound theme or something (i didn't know it was from Mario Land)

This instrumental song has a ancient Egyptian vibe and rhythm to it like you would hear it in a temple or exploring in one and you encounter paranormal and supernatural stuff.

Super Mario Land's castle levels were basically Egyptian tombs, so SSBB remixed it and put it into the levels that had to do with desert ruins. Genius move on their part.
Listening to this stellar bop in 2024 hits me in the nostalgia gut. I remember playing through the Ruins level in Subspace Emissary, and I had a great time jamming out to the music
I still regularly play through subspace on my copy, I’m cherishing it while it lasts, because the bastards at Nintendo refuse to port their games AT ALL
My biggest regret after our Wii kicked the bucket was that I had never finished the Subspace Emissary while I'd had the chance
0:17 & 0:21 that expanding sound can also be heard in Pearl's Girl (everything everything) by Underworld! Such a cool noise.
Super Mario Land's music is as underrated as the game, I'm glad this theme at least got a remix in Brawl, and it's appropriately spooky and mystical-sounding!

As much as I enjoy the original music of SML's Underground since I was a kid, I prefer this remix more than the original because it sounds so awesome and intense. It's like going on an intense battle in a dark heavy rainstorm.
This is the remix that didn't introduce me to SSMB in 2008. It introduced me to both Mario videos I saw as a kid. One, the Gmod animation by Adsolution, Mario jumps off a cliff. And two, starman3's Super Mario 64 Blooper Season 4 Intro. It's crazy for me to think about that every time I listened to this remix in my head right now. Sadly, I didn't play SSMB back then. This is the remix that has been in my head for years.

The, "No Longer Hindered by Squirtle," Theme in Subspace
tnat part in the cave/temple level where you enter a huge chamber that extneds backwards into some sort of light with a mesa still mystifies me
I hope in a Mario odyssey 2 we could see the Easton kingdom and a remix similar to this theme is present

brawl was an amazing game honestly, you can say whatever you want about the competitive side, but as a game it was fucking great.
Brawl and melee really are such legendary games, I love playing melee with people over slippi, and cant wait to do brawl/pm with people when brawlback launches, and its stuff like this that is why, while 4 and especially ultimate arent up my alley, I can at least enjoy these games in these times
