Very interesting and beautiful piece superbly played, outstanding videography and audio too. Great having an introduction .
I saw him play this 22 years ago...also from memory....in Cincinnati
Fascinating piece, I remember hearing Julian Bream's recording from the late 1970's, beautiful sounds. Great to see somebody actually playing it live, I'm checking the score out just for fun too.
Wonderful performance of my favourite guitar piece - very inspiring!
... große Spannung und Inszenierung, viel Herzblut. Bravo!
quando o Zen é mostrado sonoramente !!!!! Grande Obra Musical !!! Hans Werner Henze !!!!!!!!!! Great Guitar Man !!! Otto Tonolen !!!! Yeah !!!
Can't believe that you play this from memory. A great achievement. Agree with the other remarks about this being a great modern work, perhaps the greatest, for the instrument.
He memorized all these performance directions and the music . He knows exactly what he is about and i imagine has thought long abut this music choice . Commitment !
This is an amazing performance. Very well done!
Great tecnique and spirit, thanks for posting your artistry on this masterpiece, Otto !
Thankyou , so much for uploading this very special musick .So he makes sense of it (for us ) by giving it a narrative program .Is this really Henze's meaning .That is very old -fashioned but the music is glorious and rather direct .I'm sure the guitarist knows what he is about so I will take his word for it.Must find this score it is the best contemporary music I have heard for this instrument which I have never written for - that will soon change after hearing this !
great performance for Royal Winter Music composed by Hans Werner Henze. I think Julian Bream had recorded this music in his CD.
The guitarist is great. The Guitar Cannon is great.
Very nice!!!
Meraviglioso!!
Superb!
Great!

Fine performance, but the dry acoustics don't help. Classical guitar in general needs a bit of help by reverberant acoustics IMHO and this dramatic piece even more so.
@TermsofService Let's forget your first sentence, which has nothing to do with my comment. As for the acoustics: as with performance, that's also a matter of taste, I think it's a bit too dry for this piece, you think it's fine, that's just a difference of opinion.
obra horrível excelente técnica guitarristica
In spite of it's typically Teutonic lofty protections, henses peace is a complete and utter failure as viable, compelling music.
He needs to go back to the drawing board and remember what attracted him to music in the very beginning, before his intellect infected his creative process to the point where there was all head and no heart.
To Julian bream's credit, he honored the muses of each of the people he asked to write works for the guitar, but more than a few of them failed to produce true music, much less true art. A shame, but a typical 20th and 21st century failing. Thank goodness for composers like William Walton who could unify great technical innovation with great artistry.
