Recently spent 3 days in Scotland covering the same trip as you. We hired a car and covered 800 klms in the 3 days. I was born in Scotland, so it was my first time back since I was 14. I live on the north coast of NSW near Yamba. Just loved Scotland and especially Edinburgh. I'm glad you had an awesome time. ❤
Scotland is an ancient and magical place. There’s something indescribable about the place, the light and vibe is unlike anywhere else. Can’t wait to return.
Your boat trip on Loch Ness made me laugh, remembering a similar trip I took on Loch Lomond, in the west of Scotland. The boat was full of American tourists that day, all oohing and aahing over the scenery and talking about how they were really Scottish because their great-great-great-grandfather emigrated back in the day. 😅❤ Meanwhile I was sat on the other side of the boat looking out over the beautiful loch, and noticed something - apparently alive - swimming toward the boat. I swear to God it looked like some sort of beastie, it was huge and it was definitely alive and swimming, it was leaving a wake and everything. I got more and more alarmed, then panic-stricken thinking 'It's a beastie, it's a beastie!' When it got to within a few feet of the boat I realised it was a huge fossilised tree. 😅😅 Some of the loch floors are covered in fossilised forests, and occasionally a tree will break off and float up to the surface. It's astounding how 'alive' they look off in the distance! I still believe in Nessie though. ❤🦕
Greetings from Scotland! The next time you head North, keep going beyond Inverness and you will experience the true Highlands in all it's splendour! At least you'll get to see it how it is in the particular season you visit, because every season brings a new view a new feeling. I went to the far North on my honeymoon back in 1973 and because we couldn't see everything in one trip, we moved to Lairg in Sutherland to work and live. We brought up a family there and never returned to South Wales. We have lived in all the areas of Scotland but Sutherland/Ross-shire is where we will always call home! Come back sometime and spend more time, it may be a small country, but it has so much to offer! 😊😊
As a Scotsman born in Inverness and brought up in Ross-Shire, with family origins in Sutherland, I second this. Every corner brings a new magical view. Your videos are amazing and so comforting. Scotland 🏴 is very beautiful with so much history and to see. Cant wait for your next adventure. Have a wonderful day Phoebe!
Enjoyed your Scotland videos. It's a great country to do a road trip as long as you're a confident driver - most of the roads worth visiting are not wide enough for two cars to pass.
Scotland weather can be so unpredictable. Despite that. Sounds like you had a great time in Scotland. You adapt and enjoy those moments. WE have very fond memories of our time in Scotland. It’s so funny to see an Aussie in our weather. It’s now November and I am still working in a T-Shirt outdoors as a fibre engineer 🤣🤣. You are wearing more clothes in one video than I actually own 🤣🤣. Thanks for visiting Scotland and bringing me to your channel great to see how happy people are visiting Scotland. I ain’t a fan of Edinburgh but I work in the city everyday. What a brilliant last minute tour! Glad you got to visit Dunkeld, it's a beautiful area. I read recently it's one of Scotland's happiest towns, and who can blame them with such views. I live about an hour away from it and we keep meaning to go and stay a night, one or 2 lovely hotels right on the river 😍
So glad I did it :) I was worried it was all going to be too rushed but it was great to get out of the cities and see more of the little towns and gorgeous scenery :)
Yes, the weather is unpredictable in Scotland. We did a Rabbies one day tour of Glencoe out of Glasgow this past mid Sept. Our weather was the same as yours. Fortunately, it only rained while driving so our stops were pleasant. Yes, you would have done better choosing your own accommodation and yes, having your own car would have been better. Excellent video. Enjoyed you seeing some of the same place that we saw.
Loving your Scotland series of videos, Phoebe. Especially the spontaneous tours. We've been 3 or 4 times over the years and loved it - we went everywhere there that you have been, which has never happened before when I've seen a travel vlog! 😳 Though we have never been in the cold weather, we actually jagged summer there once, iirc, we were on a boat on Loch Ness on a Thursday in July. 😄 Thanks for evoking great memories - happy and safe travels!
Thank you soooo much Aubrey :) I'm so glad you got to visit too! It's such a gorgeous part of the world. Can't wait to visit again and see more next time!
In regards to that event in Glencoe, for a long time there was a sign above the bar in the Clachaig Inn near Glencoe Village saying that "No Campbells will be served in this establishment". We have long memories.
There's a bit to the story that most people leave out. Although they didn't deserve what happened to them, obviously....the MacDonalds were nobodies friends in the region and notorious cattle-thieves .
Near Dunkeld is the Hermitage, a woodland with a waterfall. Wonderful walks amongst the tall trees. Dunkeld also has places that do nice scone, clotted cream and jam. At autumn time, the colour of the trees is stunning!
Good one. I think starting in Dunkeld is a good option as a starting point. Called “Gateway to the Highlands” - although Inverness calls itself that too!
A friend from Kenya was working in Scotland as a programmer while his wife wax improving her skills as an opthalmic surgeon. Every weekend he had to take his 4 year old son to see the hairy cows, he was fascinated by them.
Hello again! Scottish weather is like Melbourne, 4 seasons a day. Sun, fog, rain, drizzle, wind, all in one day. But the locations are beautiful in any type of weather. I’m happy you got to discover that. And your hotel this time could indeed use some improvement. I get your coffin vibes! You’re going to London, that got me excited! Enjoy London and I’ll see you there next week 🤙
Hi Lassie, remember for future reference tour companies almost always have an arrangement with hotels and take a sometimes substantial comission to bring guests to their hotel, many companies also charge a booking fee to do your booking for you.
Such a good point! The price was probably inflated to accommodate their cut. Will definitely book myself next time :) In a weird way, I'm glad to have experience as I can share with others to avoid it. Always happy to be the test rabbit hahaha
Oh my gosh - I really REALLY wanted to go to Isle of Skye. I was trying to change my plans around so I get there but couldn't make it work this time. In a weird way I think it's worked out best - now I know for next time that I want to hire a car so I can slow the pace down and enjoy it all a little more :)
@@travelforphoebe yes hiring a car is the best way to do it and depending on where you set off from even the drive there up the A87 will blow your wee socks off (all 3 pairs 😆), especially the views over Glen Garry 🤩. Like the other comment says even for us natives the Isle of Skye is breathtaking. Like driving through a dream. I PROMISE you won’t be disappointed
That looked so beautiful! Many moons ago my friends and I drove up to Fortwilliam on Vespas. It was such a memorable trip for us. Some day I need to do a driving holiday in Scotland. You have given me another one for the bucket list! On another note, we were staying in Derry earlier this week and we fell in with an Aussie girl who was backpacking solo. She was great fun. Hey 🙂 I just discover your channel, after ur visit in Edinburgh, as I live here. Real cool videos and interesting places I’ll definitely check them out. If ur ever back to Scotland and need a drone operator, gives a shout 😉
As a regular visitor to Inverness, trust me, you wouldn't have found anything better for £86! There's a serious shortage of accommodation given how popular it is. Love your enthusiasm though.
Glencoe should be on any visitors list. It's the most amazing and beautiful part of Scotland(though the road to and including Skye also is). If you go the north road from Rannoch Moor, you have the most iconic mountain in Scotland - Buachaille Etive Mòr. If you've never been to Scotland before, the west coast is the best coast... if you want scenery.
Is it possible to stay in Glencoe? Sorry that’s probably the most basic question ☺️ but I’d love to go back and stay somewhere out there for a few nights to have longer to see it. I’m picturing a remote airbnb or something with amazing views!
Loads of wee towns like Dunkeld, west over the other side of Loch Tay are the Falls of Dochart at Killin, spent some of my summers going around different lochs when I was wee. Good that the sun was out for you though lol Best thing to do is find a Scottish friend and rent a car, Tours seem expensive to me, there is one takes folk to Falkirk where I live, shows them the Kelpies and the Falkirk wheel, people paying a lot of money to be driven to places that don't cost anything to visit, It's good if you've no idea where to go and what to see yet, there are plenty of folk in Scotland will give you directions if you're driving.
@@travelforphoebe You can drive around Scotland in a day or two but takes a lifetime to see it, some folk hire a camper van of some type and drive around in that.
Hello Phoebe 😊 These little town are so gorgeous 😊😊 That's make me so happy and I always love a great story-legends-myths wakes up my inner Lara Croft Tomb Raider 😂 I know why we never see Nessie 😂 I am so sure Nessie is to shy and want her personal space 😁 That sleeper train is awesome 😃 I had to remind myself this option exist because is great 😊 have a safe travel to one of my favorite city London 😇 Take care 😊
You are either very Brave or over Enthusiastic letting a Tour guide book your lodgings. Glad you enjoyed your stay. You should have visited the Borders. But hey your Holiday.
Thank you so much! I'm saving the visit to my Pop's hometown for next time - I want to hire a car and spend a good few days seeing it slowly. Not sure I'd film it, I think I'd like to go and just be present and 'feel' it you know :)
@@travelforphoebe Oh absolutely. Wasnt for a second suggesting you film it for us. You share so much with your followers, moments like this should be for YOU and your loved ones
The fog in Edinburgh is called haar, it's a sea mist and it tends to come to an abrupt end, it's not uncommon for Edinburgh to be shrowded in fog but for the rest of the country to have nice weather. Perthshire is full of lovely little towns that are worth a visit. A lot of places do a veggie or vegan Sunday roast option, often with a nut roast to replace the meat. Highland cows are the best, they've got amazing temperaments, they're so chilled out! It's funny how people acclimate to different climates, because you found it really cold here, when it's nowhere near our coldest weather yet...January and February are when it's properly cold! On the other hand, I can't cope with the heat at all!! Scotland is really easy to find your way about in, even if like me you don't drive, and while Rabbie's tours are good (I've done some of their daytrips), they're not the most economical. That's the fanciest rooms you get on those trains, they're usually really expensive so you definitely lucked out!!
It's absolutely beautiful! I'm so glad I've gotten to see all of Scotland's beauty but now I'm in trouble because I want to see more :) Will have to come back again next summer!
Glencoe is my favourite place. You managed to pronounce Glasgow and Edinburgh correctly, so I can forgive any other minor mistakes 😂 This was a great option when it was last minute, but yeah. As you experienced, tour hotels can be hit or miss.
i did a highland tour back in april, but not with rabbies. and i agree with you, i did regret letting the tour book the hotel for me. yes with that price we could have found something better ourselves. but before i told the tour to book it for me, i did browse around and it was HARD to find a place in the highlands (i took the isle of skye tour and we stayed at portree), and the tour has a specific radius of where u can stay in order for them to pick you up the next day (which all things considered, made sense so i dont blame them). but yeah, would've been nice if u could just book one yourself, i dont even mind paying a slightly higher price to get a place of my liking
I think it's a good way to see things quickly and I'm glad I did it but would love to hire a car and slow the pace down next time :) Just need to get myself better organised and have more time to plan haha I would LOVE to do Isle of Skye! I think I'l have to go back again next summer.
We live in a very sad age. We have to have an explanation for everything that happens. We also have to know "the Truth". We have erased Magic and replaced it with boring and dry Scientific fact. I ask you are we any better off? I say we are much the worse for removing the Magic and the Gift we were given called Life. Some things will never be proven they just have to be believed in. You can't explain Love. I mean, not really. Pheromones still don't explain the magic of being in love. Do I believe in Nessie? You bet I do. To quote the last line of "The Maltese Falcon": "It's the stuff dreams are made of." That's why the Highlands are so special, because you can explain the feeling you get when there. You can't explain it rationally or scientifically. You just live it. Excellent Vlog as always, FiBi!!!!!! :)
40 weeks until my UK trip. So excited. I hope to see Highland Cows, curious any idea why I see posts with people calling them coos? Is that a Scottish thing?
Heilan’ coo = common Scottish pronunciation of “Highland cow”. When I was a child in rural lowland Scotland (65 years ago) farmers would refer to cattle in the plural as “kye”, sheep were “yowes” (a Scots variation on “ewes”), but I don’t think you’ll hear those old Scots words any longer. Enjoy the trip.
Scots type in Scottish English, we actually communicate in Scots, it’s sister language. Almost every word is different ie “I am going to wander up to the town” is “Um Gaunae tak a donder tae ra toon” . It’s “hoo wi blether”.😄🏴
Loving this current series. Can't say that Scotland was somewhere I have looked into visiting but it looks like a fabulous place to go. Thanks for continuing to do what you do!
@@MelThorburn Nah, you guys are just on the other side of the world. Flights would eat up most of my budget already (and I have a mortgage so the travel budget isn't that big). One day though... I'll just have to keep churning credit cards to build up frequent flyer points.

I definitely think a hire car is essential for next time :) There is SO much I want to see!
@@travelforphoebe You can drive around Scotland in a day or two but takes a lifetime to see it, some folk hire a camper van of some type and drive around in that.
Been a few years since I lived in aviemore and I still recognised it straight away
What a beautiful place to have lived!
I am once again entranced by the rippling cascade of your blonde hair and the irresistible cuteness hidden in your blissful smiles.
Hello Phoebe 😊 These little town are so gorgeous 😊😊 That's make me so happy and I always love a great story-legends-myths wakes up my inner Lara Croft Tomb Raider 😂 I know why we never see Nessie 😂 I am so sure Nessie is to shy and want her personal space 😁 That sleeper train is awesome 😃 I had to remind myself this option exist because is great 😊 have a safe travel to one of my favorite city London 😇 Take care 😊
soooo cute right?! I love the little towns :) Glad you enjoyed this episode! Hope you have a great week ahead and thanks for watching. P x
@@travelforphoebe Thanks have a great week too 😇
You are either very Brave or over Enthusiastic letting a Tour guide book your lodgings. Glad you enjoyed your stay. You should have visited the Borders. But hey your Holiday.
hahaha it makes it a little more exciting sometimes :) Like a travel lucky dip!
Lovely video Phoebe..as always!!! Did you get to explore any more of your Grandfather's family area?
Thank you so much! I'm saving the visit to my Pop's hometown for next time - I want to hire a car and spend a good few days seeing it slowly. Not sure I'd film it, I think I'd like to go and just be present and 'feel' it you know :)
@@travelforphoebe Oh absolutely. Wasnt for a second suggesting you film it for us. You share so much with your followers, moments like this should be for YOU and your loved ones
Stirling is Scotlands best place, but I’m biased. 🏴😄
Ok, ok - added to the list for next time :)
I'm so glad I've gotten to see all of Scotland's beauty but now I'm in trouble because I want to see more :) Will have to come back again next summer!
as always, an interesting video
Thanks for watching :) have a great day!
You make a very good video❤ You’ve got another subscriber
Glencoe is my favourite place. You managed to pronounce Glasgow and Edinburgh correctly, so I can forgive any other minor mistakes 😂 This was a great option when it was last minute, but yeah. As you experienced, tour hotels can be hit or miss.
hahaha thank you :)
I was honored to follow your channel. I hope to have a million subscribers. I am Mohammed from Saudi Arabia.
Brilliant great vlog
Thank you SO much :)
Come back soon... and get a car! Also, try some of the Islands oot!! 💖👌👍💪
Oh I absolutely will be hiring a car next time!! Thinking I may need to visit next Summer!
A beautiful lady in a very beautiful part of the world ❤
i did a highland tour back in april, but not with rabbies. and i agree with you, i did regret letting the tour book the hotel for me. yes with that price we could have found something better ourselves. but before i told the tour to book it for me, i did browse around and it was HARD to find a place in the highlands (i took the isle of skye tour and we stayed at portree), and the tour has a specific radius of where u can stay in order for them to pick you up the next day (which all things considered, made sense so i dont blame them). but yeah, would've been nice if u could just book one yourself, i dont even mind paying a slightly higher price to get a place of my liking
I think it's a good way to see things quickly and I'm glad I did it but would love to hire a car and slow the pace down next time :) Just need to get myself better organised and have more time to plan haha I would LOVE to do Isle of Skye! I think I'l have to go back again next summer.
@travelforphoebe omg yes I highly recommend isle of skye! U will love it!
Fellow travel creator, can’t wait to get back to a foggy Edinburgh
Oh hi! Yesss it's sooo beautiful huh!
@ I went when I was in college and backpacked Europe. Edinburgh was my favorite. Now that I’m creating can’t wait to tell a story.
Good morning Phoebe!
Have a great week ahead!
Hi Phoebe
Luv what you do!!!
Thank you SO much :)
Its very easy to find vegetarian and vegan meals everywhere over the UK, even the tiniest villages will serve them.
It was SO tasty!
Glencoe is one of my favourite places in the world, and not just because I'm Scottish.
It is GORGEOUS! I wish I had longer there
amazing vlog!! also how long ago was this filmed if i may ask?
Haste Ye Back Phoebe. Next time Mull, Mallaig, Skye and Iona. So much to see, so much too fall in love with. Safe Traveling 💙
ok ok! I'll add those to my list for next time. I really adore Scotland and would love to see more. Might have to visit again next year :)
@@travelforphoebe 💙💙
How did you deal with the cost of plane tickets and tours etc? Did budget often?
40 weeks until my UK trip. So excited. I hope to see Highland Cows, curious any idea why I see posts with people calling them coos? Is that a Scottish thing?
Yes , it’s Scottish slang.
@@davidpaterson2309 Yes these words are still used by most farmers and crofters 👍🏼
Scots type in Scottish English, we actually communicate in Scots, it’s sister language. Almost every word is different ie “I am going to wander up to the town” is “Um Gaunae tak a donder tae ra toon” . It’s “hoo wi blether”.😄🏴
@@davidpaterson2309 Interesting bit of trivia. Thank you!!
Loving this current series. Can't say that Scotland was somewhere I have looked into visiting but it looks like a fabulous place to go.
Thanks for continuing to do what you do!
Can I ask why not? Serious like? Is it our weather or what?
I can absolutely confirm it's well worth visiting :) I have LOVED it!
@@MelThorburn Nah, you guys are just on the other side of the world. Flights would eat up most of my budget already (and I have a mortgage so the travel budget isn't that big).
One day though... I'll just have to keep churning credit cards to build up frequent flyer points.
Just bad planning, next visit please book the good days, sorry day 😜
Nice video 😀. But that hotel room tho…. I don’t know how I would have felt…. Hopefully the marshmallow thingy made up for it
hahaha yeah it was... um... different haha all part of the adventure though :)
There are Highland cattle in Glasgow.
Wish I'd seen them! :)
Wonderful 😅
This was a strange experience, I started watching your videos when I was planning my honeymoon to Korea. Now I have watched you travel around where I'm lucky enough to call home. I live close to Inverness and spend much of my time exploring the Highlands/Aberdeenshire. You definitely missed out on some special areas so if you do get the chance to do your "DIY trip" you still have plenty to see. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing our country 🏴
oh wow! it's come full circle for you :) I would LOVE to see more of Scotland. In a weird way I think it's worked out for the best - now I know for next time I want to hire a car and take my time seeing more!
😍
Next time get a Tunnocks Caramel Wafer (thank me later)
Or a Caramel Log 🤤Tunnocks are geniuses 😄
a WHAT?! That sounds DELICIOUSSSSSSS

Of course Nessie is real.
I KNEW IT!
Did you see people running around in their kilts… yelling… they may take our lives …but they’ll never take our freedom ? 😂🏴
hahahaha
Was that gravy vegetarian? Asking for a friend.
hahaha it didn't taste meaty so I think it was all good :)

Logic says no Nessie , Scottish pride says yes .if both ends are open to the sea why would there be .
hahaha I love the magic around it - so fun :)
@@travelforphoebe Neither end is open to the sea. The Caledonian Canal has a few locks (not lochs) in the way.
froggy Scotland
