I've welded for over 20 years on and off, welded all day today, but I really didn't know what level things have reached. Very humbling and motivating to see, well done all.
Given your experience and knowledge about how the industry has evolved over the years. Would you recommend welding as a career in this day and age? I’m currently saving up for welding school in Illinois. But I’ve also heard that’s not the best route to take as far as starting a welding career.
@@MAGA_Randy_Marsh I would still recommend welding to anybody with interest in it, even in this current time. A good welding school is highly valuable in my opinion. I competed at one of these competitions in Canada (Skills Canada vs World Skills). It was an insane experience. This is I'm assuming Worlds, so it wasn't exactly the same. But it was in this huge conference centre, masses of people came in to watch. I was making welds in those UV protection curtain "booths," while people were taking pictures and videos, stopped for lunch, and finished up. I ended up getting second place, and it was super close. The guy that beat me mustve ended up down there at Worlds. No grinding, no cutting, no stray arcs, the piece is graded on accuracy to the print and of course your welds. Cool experience, crazy stressful, though. Glad to have had that experience, I had an amazing teacher to whom I owe a lot of that success.
This was beyond amazing. You describe the "sickness" welders have in needing to inspect every weld they encounter. Perfectly accurate. Thank you for this video.
Thank you, Jody, for your time and mentorship. I'm not a welder by trade, though I've watched every one of your videos through the years and have used my welder for home repairs. I appreciate the effort and care you've shown to help those in and outside the industry!
Haha, than hereby, from a Dutch old time welder; you're a welder! Probably not a very good one... but a welder nevertheless!! :) I must say that I watch several channels and have a few beside this that I also respect and appreciate but this channel is run by someone who knows what he is doing and you really cant go wrong by keeping this as a reference. All the best to you, keep that metal flowing!!
I’ll never forget a discussion I had with a Pro NFL football player when he stated there’s a very fine line between the skills of a winner and loser in the final game. So it can be said for these welders. Incredibly beautiful welding to behold.
I'm only a hobbyist welder, but I always find myself inspecting others welds. One way of relaxation after work, as a tower crane operator, was to fire up my engine driven Thermal Arc portable welder to practice overhead and vertical welding. As I was doing this, one of the inspectors happened to be walking by and looked at my welds. He said, "I'd sign those off." Made my day.

I’m a DIY/farm “welder”… I’ve taken community college intro classes, and probably burned 5,000 rods of 6011 and 7018 in my life. Last summer I tried to repair a steel hydraulic reservoir on a tractor. No pressure, it just had to hold some hydraulic fluid like a bowl holds water… after three failed attempts, including one attempt at brazing, I finally gave up and used silicone and self-tapping screws, which are still holding today. I couldn’t even weld something to hold 1 PSI… I simply can’t IMAGINE welding something to hold 1,000 PSI, let alone make anything so pretty. Huge respect for these guys and for real welders everywhere.
I'm with the Skills USA Ohio state staff and it always amazes me how skilled these students are and how much they can get done is such a short time. Good Job and Congratulations to all how competed. And Think You to Lincoln Electric for all they do for the students how compete at State, Nationals, and World contest. Thank You!
As a welding inspector myself, being a judge in this competition must be very hard, since we're used to identify no conformities or defects, so this competition levels up a little bit the way of inspecting a welded joint.
I competed in SkillsUSA Tennessee for my tech school last year. Sadly didn’t place due to complications with the machine they had in our work area, but now I have a job welding food grade stainless! I’m stoked to see that they are implementing thin stainless in these competitions. It’s definitely not easy but it’s rewarding when you do it right. Awesome job to all the competitors!
@@timallen657 I competed for tcat Pulaski! The ceremony and all the formal stuff was held at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Then the three man fab team was held at Dilling Group. It some place about 30 minutes outside of chatt that does high pressure pipe and stuff like that. I'm not sure if the single man comp was held there or somewhere else. It was definitely a fun experience. I would love to go back and do it again. It's aggravating going all that way and losing due to not having a welder for 45 minutes but it was still very fun!
This was pretty cool to watch. I've never welded before but I've always been fascinated with welding and how people do their own ways of weldings. The ceremony was pretty nice too. Maybe I should try it out and see if I got any hidden skills lurking up my sleeves.
World skills is an awesome organization / event! I competed in the plumbing and heating category back in 2017 in abu Dhabi. It's for competitors under 22 years old age I thought I would also mention.
Thanks I wondered what the age limit is. Some of the competitors looked like they were not old enough to drink in the US. Drinking age here is 21. At 18 you can vote, join the army, get married, sign a contract and buy a gun. However you can't have a beer until you are 21. Insane.
RUclips has made welding soo much of a Fad that I really don't want to try to do it for a living anymore. I went to school for welding because it looked fun, Not because everyone else was doing it.

First time that I've ever heard of this competition- Very cool! Thanks for sharing with us!
I absolutly love welding! But these youg people have tuned it into a pure artform. Those verticals being slit open at the start are pure weldporn!!!
Gotta be nuts to go to college these days. These welders will be WELL OFF, and in HIGH DEMAND for years to come.
Approaching my 40s and tbese types of videos have become my life😂😂
I competed in SkillsUSA Tennessee for my tech school last year. Sadly didn’t place due to complications with the machine they had in our work area, but now I have a job welding food grade stainless! I’m stoked to see that they are implementing thin stainless in these competitions. It’s definitely not easy but it’s rewarding when you do it right. Awesome job to all the competitors!
Where was the competition held at? The local Pipe hall ? I went with tcat Pulaski a couple times years ago, it was a fun experience!
Awesome Jody! Thank you! 👍🏼👍🏼
Wow superb!!! Those welders are the future of mankind!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very cool! Hats off to all the competitors! It’s no simple task just to place.
testing to 1000PSI , with out any safety shielding around the PV in case of rupture??
Pretty cool to see people from all over the world there!
Why care if everyone else is doing it? Just enjoy it lol
@@Bruh-ki2cm the stupid Fordged in Fire show has everyone thinking they are expert blacksmiths. I hate hearing people say Damascus,, that's not a thing anymore. Figuring out what real damascus was is like trying to figure out how the pyramids were built,,if scientists can't do it then people in a comment section definitely don't understand it.
Thanks my Teacher...
All these youngsters have a huge future ahead if them.
Amazing stuff. Welders have come a long way. And welding machines have also made for better welds and welders..
I get paid a lot of money to weld. 15+ years... and this is exceptional.
