"Brainstorm" was one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made! It's certainly in my Top 5 (and I'm 77 years old, having seen enormous amounts of sci-fi). Every one of the stars still shines so brightly in the movie universe. I'm still blown away when I watch it. Of course, Natalie Wood's suspicious death clouded it, but her beauty & acting quality shines through. I loved it as a kid, and I still love it.
I dont get it why this film was not more successful, and it proves to me that Douglas Trumbull was more than just a "effects guy", he was a very talented filmmaker and excellent director
The story was not very compelling. The marriage on the rocks subplot was perhaps too real and a bummer when the media was feeding propaganda about 50% of all marriages failing, and there wasn't a very good hero's arc to Walken's character. It's a fascinating movie, but not really a great story.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 I saw it when it came out in 1983 and it was like nothing I’d seen before. VR before VR. Cyberpunk before cyberpunk was a thing. (Neuromancer came out in 85). Strange Days did a similar thing 12 years later with the recording and playback of experiences, but that was 12 years later so yes for me it was groundbreaking and ahead of its time.
@ Thank you. I’ll try again then. See if it gets through? I saw this movie in a cinema when it came out in 1983 and it was like nothing I had seen before. It did a kind of VR thing before VR existed. It did a kind of cyberpunk before cyberpunk was a thing. It had holographic tape. It had so much new stuff in it that we take for granted now that for me, back then, it was truly groundbreaking and way ahead of its time. Strange Days dipped into the subject 12 years later. But back in 1983 this stuff was just nuts and it blew my mind. So for me it’s a groundbreaking movie way ahead of its time. Watching for the first time years later it will be less so obvs. Wonder if this one will appease the RUclips gods? Hope so.
Saw this movie in the 80s and loved it, but ever since then I've had this feeling that I had read the same concept before. I finally rediscovered it while re-reading Arthur C Clark's "Tales from the White Hart" a story called "Patent Pending". I think that story may have been the basis for the movie. Rest in peace Arthur.
This was a fantastic movie, ahead of it's time. Now with the New Digital Goggles out, it made me remember this movie. Is the Brainstorm ability a goal in mind in the near future?
Poor Natalie 😢 R.I.P. “Wagner and Walken” knew much more than what was said ,to law enforcement concerning her death that night on the pacific 🌊 SOB’s!
Yep. Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall on the boat that night? And to think, I really liked Robert Wagner... Well, until I saw "Prince Valiant" anyway! LOL
I’ve convoluted this movie with another in my mind for decades. It is very significant; could this recording be done in 100 years? No good sci-fi movie isn’t made off a great sci-fi story. What’s the sci-fi story? Anyone know?
So ahead of it's time it's ridiculous. This tech is having it's breakthrough now, in 2024. Japan has a dream to video program with 60% accuracy now. Next year that will probably reach 90%.

Okay, I wasn't a "kid" seeing it, but still 50 years doesn't dim its brilliance.
damn you're OLD... but oooooooooold.
don't worry i would not even make it to 30 so... SOU.. hhahah lol
The Deadzone is my number 1 and this is number 2 for me. Just amazing.
Ditto friend! I hope DT is flying free in his new destination.
I was 10 when I saw it.
Every vision or technology advancement in the past 15 years moves us closer to brainstorm.
❤ Think Elon Musks Implant ! This is no longer fiction-> it’s reality . Plug right in to the noodle ??
@@mordecaiesther3591Elon musk is a complete psyop.
As I do when I take off my hat, you make a good point !
Do we want it though? False promises of a technological singularity to "solve" all our problems sounds like a nightmare.

Really underrated gem
Saw this the year I graduated from high school and it blew my mind.
One of my favorite movies. Sadly, it is Natalie Wood’s last film. We can only hope for the future.
Great film from my childhood
Awesome movie that I saw as a 7 year old kid in the theaters back in '83, and who knew that we'd have this technology (pretty much) today in 2022 ;)
When we have it to this level, the WEF will have won and we'll all be slaves.
Glad I never saw this trailer years ago, before I saw the film. It gives so much of the story away!
I didn't forget...
Natalie.
I’ve been waiting for this. Thanks a bunch
thanks for brunch
Absolutely brilliant film. Way way ahead of it’s time.
How? Other than using some very nice cameras, what made it groundbreaking or ahead of its time?

@ that’s odd. My polite detailed reply to your question has disappeared? I wonder if this one will too?
@ I'm sorry to hear that. RUclips has been censoring like crazy lately. I appreciate you trying to answer in any case.

Arthur really loved Sri Lanka'n boys.
I adore this masterpiece of a film 🥰
Huggy Bear says that "word on the street" is that it's just as good (or even better) than 1952's "Bela Lugos Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla" !!
@ never saw that one?🫤😅
Great music...
No entiendo por qué me dijeron que era mala, es buenísima, una tematica muy actual
Is this where Strange Days got it's inspiration from? Looks very similar.
Two roller coasters featured.
1. The Loch Ness Monster from Busch Gardens Williamsburg
2. Mr. Twister from Elitch Gardens

James Horner score moves. Can remake this movie and call it..Apple Vision

Remake coming soon
Let's all pray it's not IRL.
Why?
It’s ignoring Natalie wood’s legacy
