  • Another amazing low quality production from a grumpy old yorkshireman, and a pretty Pinay nurse with a tent strapped to the roof of their Ford Ranger.. This time we ventured out to North Wales, Got surrounded by VW Campers, Froze our nuts off most of the night, And had our first proper night sleeping in the Tentbox Lite 2.0 XL. We also tested out the new tentbox xl (Tall version) of their living pod.
    Big shout out to @chocchiptravels who got us into tentboxing & inspires us with every video he makes.
    No sheep were hurt in the filming of this video..

    Dont apologise for an "amateur" video, its great to see it in action with normal people on a proper camp. Also enjoyed Choc chips videos. I think the XL and pod is the way to go for us. Cant get the idea of the classic being like a coffin but i do like the hard shell for keeping it on the car.

    Great video and thanks for the shout out pal. Glad you’re enjoying it.
    Unfortunately my living pod didn’t arrive in the first 7 months of this year when I had loads of time to film. After delays, it arrived right as I went into my busy summer/autumn with weddings so i hadn’t had chance to get away and film it properly. Plan was to do it this month after we got back from Copenhagen but then we got covid haha 😂
    100% filming it in January along with a load of other stuff as i’ve got 6 weeks off 🙏🏻

      Thanks for the comment bud, Hope you are all recovered now. Can't wait for the Living pod review in January, and also to see what other goodies you have lined up for us all. I think that your videos are the best out there, and you are doing a great job of giving honest, in depth, and impartial reviews. Keep up the good work.. 👍

      @@NeverlateinaV8 Yep, we bought the totalcool 45L and absolutely love it.. a very capable freezer which doesn't draw much.. keeps the beer frozen when set too low :) .. we are after a Bluetti next as they have the lithium po4 batteries.. far superior to lithium ion. thanks for the reply.. look forward to watching your videos and will keep an eye out for them.

      Hi Graig.. they are 16" modular steel rims with a 0 offset. then the tyres are 305/70/16 Comfosers. It has a 2" Brute status lift kit, and then Old man emu medium duty springs and shocks all round which give it a little more height. Thanks for the comment mate..

    Quite a set-up. What do you do if you want to move (say go out from camp for a day-trip)? Do you have to pack it all away or does the ground-based part stay where it is?
    Used a roof-top tent all over Southern Africa and the Middle East, but not with all the ground attachments. I just bought one for use in the UK after a huge amount of deliberation, as they are a fabulously comfortable way to sleep when vehicle-based camping. (Wouldn't want to stick one on my back for backpacking though!)
    Re CO, my understanding is that it's heavier than air, so that, combined with good ventilation, should mean you're OK up in the tent. NOT advice, just contributing to the discussion!😀 A good sleeping bag or down quilt should see you right at -1 though.
    Have fun with it.👍

      Basically, im screwed if i want to move mate.. i was thinking of towing an aussie style trailer and mounting the ten on top, but thats gone out the window.. the ground based part is litterally a tent which attaches to the roof tent. so no chance of leaving it in situ. the tent as you said is comfy and warm. but you hit the nail on the head.. its on the car.. if you move, it moves..

    • @TarrelScot
      @TarrelScot 3 месяца назад

      @@UK-PINAY ("If you move, it moves") - hopefully not before you fold it away!😂 Throw a couple of e-bikes in the back and you're sorted. That's our plan. Also, to use it as a base-camp for day-hikes or for overnight hikes using ultra-light backpacking gear, depending on location. We're based in the Scottish Highlands. Just got back from 5 days' backpacking along the Great Glen Way. After that type of trip even the most rudimentary car-camping set-up is pure luxury!

  • @rench1984

    Great video. Can I ask, the back panel of the living pod, have you not installed it in this video? Does the back panel have a zip for access into the vehicle? If you don't have the back panel here, how did you secure the sides to the vehicle? I want to have my tent sticking out over the back door of my Land Rover, and want access from my living pod into the back door. Many thanks

    • @UK-PINAY
      @UK-PINAY  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Rench, Thanks for the comment. We did install the back panel in the video. it has a big zip which enables the whole back to be rolled up or just opened for access into the truck. The sides are not secured to the vehicle directly, but with the zip undone it still leaves a frame for the back panel in position which is pegged down on each side. the sides are also pegged down, so there is 2 pegs at both sides holding it in position. you could remove the rear panel completely, then everything would be held by a peg either side. Its better to just install the rear panel, unzip the door, then roll it up and secure with the toggles near the roof bars. Then you have access to both side doors. The tentbox if mounted on the rear of your landy would have to be positioned so the folding edge was in line vertically with the top of your rear door. as the back panel slides into the aluminium at the centre folding point of the tent. it would work well..

    • @UK-PINAY
      @UK-PINAY  3 месяца назад

      Morning Matt.. Yes, you are right. If the car is needed, then that would be the case.. Many serious off roaders tow a trailer with the tent mounted on top, but in the real world, the tents are used on normal cars. and your not going to be taking a ford mondeo over the gobi desert.. lol.. That is by far the biggest draw back of owning one.
