  • In this video I demonstrate how to make a child wrist or forearm splint using a pillow case and an elastic bandage. This DIY first aid splinting technique will provide comfort and support to your child's arm injury while they are transported to the hospital or clinic for medical evaluation. Child often sustain wrist and forearm injuries from falling off playground equipment or while colliding with another player during sports. Knowing how to apply a splint is a good first aid measure to become familiar with should such an injury occur in a child under your care. In this video I use a 3 inch elastic bandage I purchased at the Dollar Tree store. It is a good idea to keep a few elastic bandages of varying sizes on hand at home should an unexpected injury occur.
These elastic bandages have velcro instead of the metal clips which are safer for children:

Such a great idea to use a pillow case as a splint. I never would have thought of it.

I was trying to think of something similar to the child arm splints that are in the hospitals. When I folded the pillow case, it felt almost the same!

The extra set of hands is so true! I'm 11 and hurt my wrist skateboarding, so I came to this video. It would've been great if my parents helped me, but they were busy, so I had to apply it myself. And to make matters worse, it was the wrist I write with I hurt. Eventually, I did get it on, but not before 2 hours of struggling.

Awh I hope your wrist is feeling better now! I think every time I've ever been on a skateboard I've wiped out!
