i used to watch this in my school days in 1986-87, when i was in my 7th std..it was telecast every Thursday at 7pm in DD.....never missed a episode....next day all my class mates would discuss the story...it was such fun....
DD2 or DD1. I watched both at some 2/3 (not sure) years difference may be. Those are the days of BW TVs and manual channel changer. only 2 channels with limited time.

Oh boy i remember the last episode where the robot died killing the Villain and i cried inconsolably no one could stop me i wanted the robot back again and i skipped my dinner and the lunch next day so my father decided to dress like the robot came and stood before me i was so happy. My father passed away this year, this show reminded me of my father and those innocent childhood days . I have lost my robot my father forever and this time and there is no other way to bring him back may his soul rest in peace...😭

It may have been off the air by the time I was old enough to remember it, or maybe the local TV channel that ran these after school never picked that series up since Flying Robot was basically live action Gigantor. The big fun started as Macross, Star Blazers, and Battle of the Planets showed up. For some reason we never got Mobile Suit Gundam though, but we did get He-Man and the Thundercats.
Among the greatest hero sacrifices in entertainment history. Right up there with Spock, Kirk, Supergirl, The Flash, Black Widow and Iron Man. They all hit home. Well done Giant Robot! Your hero status is set in steel.
I cried at then ending of this movie when I first saw it in 1972. It broke my heart to see Giant Robot die. My brother who was three years older than me tried to explain to me that it was just a movie. I was 6 years old at the time and I wasn't trying to hear that. I had just watched my monster hero fly into a flaming hot meteorite. Still to this day my all-time favorite monster movie.
Same for me... I cannot believe that the 'hero' died when my elder sister explained to me the plot as I was way too young to understand in pre-school days.

As a kid I use to always look up in the sky hoping he would appear. Giant Robot broke my heart doing what he did. But later on in life I had to realize it was for the greater good of humanity.

If ever there were two movies in need of a reboot with all of the CGI today this and War of the Gargantuas would pack the theaters with 50 and 60 year old kids.

Watching it many times over the years though I have to say it is still a pretty solid Kaiju flick with costumed actors without the benefit of today’s CGI enhancements. The only flaw to me was the abrupt ending “ yeah fight in the ocean, make a volcano rise out of nowhere, burn em up and roll the credits..
It was 1989 . We didn't have television in our home. I saw this serial in Mumbai, Maharashtra for the first time. I went to my uncle's house. His Christian neighbors used to watch this serial quite often. Thanks for uploading

It is surprising that foreigners were watching It was a work that was broadcast in Japan in 1967. I was born the next year, so I watched a rebroadcast.
