  • Just picked up a William Optics Gran Turismo 71 from AgenaAstro. This is a Apochromatic triplet with FPL53 glass. This is my brief overview and initial thoughts right out of the box.

Thank you for the video. I am new and just purchased the same scope and color. After I wondered if it had a rotator . 2 videos before yours with no mention. So I just ordered the rotator thanks to you.
One thing that another mentioned was just use the 2 thumb screws to release the rings so that your dew shield can be retracted and then your telescope can make use of that bag for protection. The rings might need custom mini case to attach to the larger.
Probably a dumb idea but just putting it out there.
    Thanks again.

Just got this. First night only got 3 - 5 minutes subs and it looked great! Sharp stars edge to edge.
With the 50 mm unguided scope got .3 to .4 total error.
Only regret. Didn't realize you HAVE to have the rotator as it's all screwed in to attach.
    So ordered it right away.

Exciting to see a new setup. That is annoying how WO doesn't supply a long enough dovetail plate - can't understand it really. Looking forward to see more from this scope. Clear skies.

Hey Jason...That is cool looking scope bro! Love Williams Optics scopes. My Z61 is awesome. I would love to get a little bigger of a scope.

Figured a little more clouds was okay since it is nearing a full moon. Clear skies.

Grats on the new scope Jason! This is one on my short list, still trying to decide on a wider field setup. I had to put a losmandy dovetail bar on my Z81 as well. Those vixens are just too small and short. Great capture as well man!

I really wanted the GT81 but the FL was too close to my Stellarvue 80. so far I'm liking this little scope...

Hey Jason - Nice looking setup, very close to my 80mm. I actually had similar balance issues, and had to get the Losmandy bar for mine also. I actually purchased the WO rotator for my setup unfortunately it meant I couldn't get focus, too thick. Unfortunately I just have to rotate in the rings. I'm sure you'll be fine as it's designed for your scope. Clear skies dude 😎 :)

Hey Ollie, Hopefully I will reach focus if not I'll have to get the welder out and do some adjustments!! Clear skies!

I had to wait to collect data on days I wouldn't blow up my camera back in September. Target was already setting but surprised I got what I did. Thanks and Clear skies.

Can't believe I listened to your video before I bought it and totally forgot about what you said about the rotator and how critical it is.
Not sure if it has to do with my AP MACH2GTO mount, but I am actually able to get it to balance on the DEC access with the suoplied dovetail, but have to order a smaller Counterbalance weight, as with the 10 lbs one that I have, it's still bottom heavy, even with it all the way up.

I was real close achieving balance with my mount and my OSC. It was the weight of the mono camera filter wheel etc, that threw it out of balance. the rotator is a must, not sure why they just don't include it.
