I just left the military after 9 years. My last cleaning while in, my dentist actually explained this and showed me on my Xray what was happening. The was the first time any dentist educated me on this. After that, I have really been trying to change my habits. I have recently taken a liking to watching dental videos, like yours, and it continues to teach me about my dental health. Since December, I have really improved my dental routine (certainly not perfect but it is better). My last appointment, my dentist pointed out that I had deep pockets in the back behind my molars. After watching videos on cleaning techniques, I got brush head that is shaped like a cone (IO targeted clean beush) that I can try to clean those spots better. I hope my next exam/cleaning there will be improvement.

Haven’t ever gotten a cavity, though I’m still working at getting better at remembering to floss because I want to keep it that way.

If you feel overwhelmed to floss, just start with 1 or 2 front teeth.
Once it becomes a habit and you figure out which angle works best for which teeth, flossing just takes like 3 or 4 mins and actually feels GREAT.
Edit: Also, don't start with water flosser, not only is it expensive it's a bit harder to find the correct angles to floss between your tooth compared to wire floss (as a beginner). Get a thin waxed floss and get into the habit, THEN you could try water flosser and see if you like it.

Then I pull the floss out and then go over the wire at the top of my teeth to do that bit. You won't be able to go up and down your teeth as normal so you have to do it in two stages. If regular floss is too difficult to thread under your wire, you can buy Super Floss which is stiff and easier to thread through teeth. Hope this makes sense.

Can you give your take on some dentists now saying flossing isn’t really helpful? I don’t believe that but curious on the shift in opinion.

I dunno. Flossing helps me feel my teeth in my mouth. I am sensitive to when there’s things stuck between them and flossing us very satisfying to remove that feeling.

I don't floss _every_ time I brush, but I do floss a lot more often before I brush than I used to. And your videos are helping.
I like having my own teeth. I've only lost one and that was because of a bad filling. By the time I could afford it, it was too far gone for a root canal.

I’ve heard conflicting things on if you should floss below the gum line (in the “pocket”) or not.
Some dentists said you’re supposed to just do between the teeth, some said go all the way down?

Damn, man. I keep forgetting to floss. Thanks man, I don't want to get another novocaine shot. Those sure does hurt (For me A BUNCH.) at first touch, since those are to numb, but of course you'll feel it because that shot touches before injecting liquid of numbness. And then you know the other stuff, like those sharp tools they use at the orthodontist and stuff.
