The Scarlet Letter is an 1850 romantic work of fiction in a historical setting, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It is considered to be his magnum opus. Set in 17th-century Puritan Boston, Massachusetts during the years 1642 to 1649, it tells the story of Hester Prynne, who conceives a daughter through an adulterous affair and struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. Throughout the book, Hawthorne explores themes of legalism, sin, and guilt.

You are a lifesaver
Thank you
Makena Tselikovsky thank you sm
Omg thank you you saved my life😅
+Makena Tselikovsky I will forever love you for this.
You know when you read a whole book and then you realize you don't know what the heck you just read and you have a test the next day and you did all that you could and all you can do is hope for the best. yeah.
Day 1: I've made it to chapter 17 in a single sitting. I don't know how much more I can take.
Day 2: It's actually a pretty good book once you get to a certain point. Not bad Nathaniel Hawthorne, not bad
@@FakeHashira WHY IS THIS ME WHEN STUDYING XD
rachael calero lol I just did the whole thing in one sitting and the project at the same time!
@@brady_bauer2518 when does it get good.
Chelsea Adonteng lol what are you talking about today this is a great story. I didn’t sleep all night reading it.
When you were supposed to read this book over summer but you procrastinated and are now rushing to read it
sunshine hobi bruhhh im doing that right now
I can relate 😐
Ayy
Celeste Barahona lol I had to do this with hamlet too
literally finna read it all in one day pray for me
How are sentences allowed to be this long and have this many commas?
Caleb Miller it was grammatically correct during that time period.
Id rather be trampled by my entire school while being exsanguinated and gutted by the devil himself than have to sit through this for one more second
Agreed this is the most foul boring thing I have ever had the misfortune of reading
@@emilylindquist437I’ve been procrastinating it for like 8 months lol
Just a tip for those reading this for school; if you listen on you desktop, you can adjust the speed and make it not so boring.
OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS EVERYONE NEEDS A SMART PERSON LIKE YOU IN THEIR LIFE BLESS YOU
You see, that is AMAZING advice but I already can barely understand chapter 3 and 4 with regular speed so right now I need it slower hahaha
@@kempbug thats exactly what happened to me
Also I have a video of randomly-placed laugh tracks playing in the background, so I get to hear people laugh at the book each and every once in a while.
6:07:42 I still have no idea what this book is about
This book literally makes me want to die, thanks high school
this just saved me, i moved and wasn't told about summer reading, i was only given a weekend to read this ong this literally saved my grade
This book takes forever 😳and chapter 3s reader, uggggg 😳
The accent drove me CRAZY. Not even the accent but the pronunciation. I can deal with an accent as long and they pronounce the main character's name correctly like, seriously? It is Hester Prynne. "Prin" not "Prine". And the word is recipe not receipt. -_-
chapter 19 was way worse tbh
@@leahfleming2093 No no, I think you guys mean Chapter 20
@@kempbug I completely agree! I hate to be rude, but if you're going to narrate a book, you should be reading it in your native language! We're supposed to be understanding the ENTIRE story, not just every other word! A total let down! I have never heard a foreigner narrate a book, ESPECIALLY NOT A CLASSIC!! There has to be criteria for being a narrator. And the most important one is - if English is your 2nd language, you can't do it properly unless your British. Sorry, it had to be said. I embrace Europeans or wherever this girl is from, but dude! - not when you need to understand the story! Ugh!
no it doesn't 69
I was given an entire month to finish this book, catch me finishing it in 4.5 hours :)
i was given 2 weeks 😭 and i have to finish it in two days bc yes
Try listening at 1.5 speed. It makes it more like 6-7 hours than 9
1:38:00 CHAPTER 1
THANK YOU
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you!!!!!
I love you sm thank you I've been skipping around trying to find the beginning
You are amazing
finished it without falling asleep !!!!!!
Wow. we got guided work with this reading so.... dang 9 hours of listening to this crap... Oh dear God i commend you for your efforts. ...... as you fail a test on it.
wow you should audition for america's got talent golden buzzer for sure! good job soldier
The begging voice is killing me I swear if I didn't have to write a essay on this tomorrow I wouldn't be listening
It’s 2019 why do I have to read this. Summer reading 😭💔
Destinee' Bob I’m with you :(
Finally done. 1.25x speed for the win
i cant do this i rather scratch my eyeballs out than spend another second listening to this book. i still have no idea wtf is happening because all i can focus on is trying to figure out what words they are saying rather than the actual book!
Insomnia is cured thanks a lot
Thank you! I'm a deslexic and I have a hard time reading. So this vid is VARY helpful!! God bless!
I have a literature exam for the next sunday, and yeah I couldn't read the full story but I read some summaries and watched some helpful videos. also a big thanks to a friend that helped us to understand the novel a little bit!
I been reading the introductory for about 2 day and I still have no idea what did I read 🙄 I'm dumb
Why must schools have summer reading, it's bad enough kids have homework.
I agree, even though I feel bad cause guilt is one of the main themes.
I don't like how they keep advertising their company before every chapter!
Every time I try to sit down and force myself to read this book for my assignment I get so bored and so stressed out from the wording and I end up giving up and getting high asf
Anyone listening in 2019?
TheLaideBug Me, rip
not by choice
It’s crazy to me how many people keep coming to this video and listen for school and stuff each year. Even after 8 years lol
2 years late but yep I'm here I hate school lol

what I was thinking when reading this
this book makes me want to claw my eyes out
You can't even understand the reader in chapter 3. Wtf..
That moment when you finish the book: "Finally, inner peace"
Irk 😭
the most powerful sleeping medication
Yah the chapter 19 speaker is dying or just does not care it is past 7:14:00
The Custom house is a mess of commas, hyphens, and dogsbolluks that make reading this impossible.
It is so long winded, that comprehension and maintenance of attention are impossible.
There's not even a story here! It's just the FUCKING PROLOGUE! God, I'm dying.
hahahhahah I agree with you. I'm a poor brazilian trying to read it. Too boring and difficult.
I have a test on the custom house tomorrow but I can't bring myself to sit down and read for 2 hours... Imma just take my 70 like a G...
Listen to this with study music playing quietly in the background, it makes it a little better.
Awesome reading but the lady reading chapter 3 & 4 sounds so annoying!
I KNOW DX
im listening to her rn and i thought it was just me
no she sounds like she has 69 minutes to live
A well-done reading from Librevox. I've always loved this book and believe it must have been a huge influence on my subsequent love of detail and craftsmanship or "world-building" in literature.
you know, i was given about 3 weeks to read this, ima finish it all the night before the final for it is due
My teacher already spoiled the whole story, and now i'm stuck listening to nine hours of unnecessary detail...
there's no story to be spoiled. fuck this book
Unnecessary detail is the best way to describe this book
Yo this is actually helping me a lot
The guy who reads Chapter 8 is the best. He actually has emotion in his voice...and he pronounces everything correctly.
Dude I thought he sounded like a deeper voiced Kermit the frog 😂
chapter 1 will start after 1:37:59
juan carlos thank you.
Who reads this book for fun, and if you are you will stop in just a sec. If you are reading this book for school like me, give this a thumbs up
Great deep, resonant voice!
WOOOO!! I finally finished it!!
Chapter 18 6:59:30
Gonna get this read in 5 days! 47 pages a day!!
ByteMe are you on track?
Kid Going Through Puberty No. This book is boring af. Pg. 13
ByteMe lmaoooo i feel you
ByteMe I remember I had to read it in high school for Ap literature, it starts off slow but it gradually start to get deeper as the mysteries unfold
Sean Bridges Lol thanks for this. My sister said the same thing.
Thanks.
1:19:35 and still in the intro fml
Did you finish it yet?
I've made it to chapter 12. Pray for me, please. 4 hours ahead!
Finally, I finished.
Pro tip: go to playback speed and change it to 1.5x or 1.75x! 😂😂
Here we go!!
People with thick accents shouldn't read for audio-books, much like a cancer patient shouldn't play as the linebacker on an NFL football team. Ugh.
Part of me wants to laugh because of how messed up that is but it's also kind of true lol
Literally
Chapter 9 - 3:58:59
i hate high school- pro tip start at 1:38:00 and play at 2x speed
Thank you so much, I was about to die from boredom

Am I the only one who likes Hawthorne??!!

no ofense but this novel sucks i dont like it for this reason there is a lot of thing that are unnesesaliry to write them 😪😪
for chapter 19, I recommend listening to it separate from this audiobook, like search another audiobook for chapter 19 because the woman who's reading sounds like she's on the cusp of death.
Lol and chapter 20 was worse

i didn't believe my friend when she told me how boring this summer reading is gunna be...
Chapter 8. The voice of the governor sounds like hermit the frog. Just saying.

I'm in school and i have a test on the book in 3 days. I'm just starting
Pretty much my situation. Lucky for me while the boring intro is going on, I am finding out the chapters to skip because of annoying voices (thanks to the comments). Spark notes here I come!
Did anyone else have a tough time understanding JemmaBlythe? If I didn’t have the book I wouldn’t have known what she was saying😂

I recommend for chapter three listen to a different audio book because the women seems as if her first language isn’t English and she also slurs her words a lot so it’s very difficult to understand

seriously, the readers either have the emotional voice of an undertaker or the inability to be understood
Be careful how you judge people. It’s easy for us in our modern American sensibilities to say “Boston was wrong to make a public example of Hester Prynne! Whatever happened to ‘He without sin cast the first stone’ and ‘Go thou and sin no more!’” But if you had been born and raised in a hyper fundamentalist culture prone to Old Testament smiting-you might be one of the very people in the crowd who shook their fists and hollered “Hang her!” and not have known any better. People are the products of their choices and environments and ultimately God will judge us all by the amount we knew. (Romans 2:14-16.)
If I was talking to this man in a social situation ......... I'd be away in a flash ...he sounds creepy but in a bad way.
