I appreciate that the archer lady is clearly middle aged, so it's clear she's experienced. While having younger protagonists is fine and all it's much more believable that someone who's seen some shit would be more skilled than a younger person.
the main character, Jin, called her "Masako" which makes me thinks she might be Hojo Masako, the first japanese female warrior to be involved in the politics of the time and lead the way for women to have a higher status.
The protagonist does not look young at all to me. Looks and Sounds like hes seen many years of Samurai service. Plus hes Asian. They only look old when they hit 70 or something. lol

I like how, by asian standards, you can say she is anywhere between 16-45yo and it would look just the same. After that things go south fast though :P
