Liked the idea of no monthly service for Garmin ELD, but poor customer support, and constant failure of the ELD to function made it impossible to be compliant with the DOT regulations.
We are dealing with this very same problem. it all started when we had the truck serviced. We are nopw on our second Garmin and elog adaptor and the same thing has happened again.
The problem is in the GPS, not in ELD Port ... But if you always touch it that way with your fingers, there is the answer, neither that nor any GPS will survive with you
I am using for few months . First month is crazy . malfunctin and problem until slowly figure out how is really everything work. I am start with Garmin GPS and way better work with iPad . Gppd luck buddy
I hate this device! I’ve been in violation all week because of this thing. I’m taking my breaks like I’m supposed to. But it keeps logging me as driving. There’s no button on there to say that you’re on a break. I like to take my breaks when I’m getting loaded in the yard because I am literally just sitting in the truck not doing anything. The guy in the loader is the one that’s doing the work. But it still shows me as on duty! And if I get stopped anytime in the next couple weeks I’m gonna be in so much trouble with all these violations!
Handing the DOT your phone allows him/her to look at anything and everything personal on the phone. A Canadian driver got some jail time for a private test message joking about a crime that had occurred. People’s phones should be an extension of their 5th Amendment rights (in USA) don’t know anything about Canadian laws, without a warrant.
Update: so I finally got the Garmin ELD and a marching OTR8000 GPS and man... we've had it for over a month. No issues. Tips... we do not connect a phone or anything else to that GPS to avoid Bluetooth conflicts. Got for $99 can't beat that
Last update seems to have broken things a little. Not bad enough to make it unusable. Just make sure you religiously back it up weekly just incase of an issue like the one I had and you'll be fine
Turn airplane mode off on your gps that might help? The thing should go to on duty not driving when you stop? You might have some kind of service port issue recalls on your truck? You should’ve tried to use it on your phone in this video also cause it could be your gps?
@@CantrellMosley1 I can’t lie yea once I learned how everything worked it’s OK what don’t have flaws? I log and edit good it always assign unassigned drive time to the truck that’s the only think I be seeing I just reject them? But the logs and areas do good sometimes you have to click in another section like logs and go back to change duty if it don’t recognize your location but it works great for me. I have a co driver and he won’t approve his back logs and he always have problems but I do everything as if I had a log book inspections and all when I need to and I haven’t had a problem like I said once you learn it it’s great also cause o see your 34 rest you have to go on duty for it to show you👑💪🏿

It’s unreadable jiberesh data and Garmin support only offers some obscure website for some 3rd party programs to download and decipher. Roadside inspection from DOT had software that was government owned but wasn’t able to tell me how to get it.
I’m sure if you hit it a little harder with your finger it will work much better, or you could do the up dates it needs

To configure your Garman you supposed to plug it in turn on your truck and then press the button
I have a new Garmin ELD and I suffer the same problems very frustrating don’t recommend at all ready to trash it

You need a flash drive to Make backup.

I put in a backup and it stays red.
My new Garmin does the same thing. My driver won't even use it anymore. I have to find something else. Such a waste Garmin!
