First time I ever saw one with my own eyes, it was guarding a deer carcass with it's massive wings. I had to pull over down the road a bit, get out and stare back because I wasn't sure I actually saw what I was seeing. It was the most beautiful animal I had ever seen in all my life! I have to say the US chose the right bird as its national symbol!

When a predator bird folds its wings over its prey, it's called mantling. They're basically hiding it from prying eyes, looking for a free meal. We have hawks here in Florida and I've seen them doing this many times. Often I'd see a whole bunch of feathers on a lawn, thinking a cat caught a bird. But, it's from predator birds plucking feathers from their catch. Seeing a Coopers Hawk take a dove or pigeon mid flight is a sight!! The hawk comes in high speed and grabs its prey with an explosion of feathers filling the air!
      It's pretty awesome!!

@@johngore7744 that's true. Here's an interesting little bit of eagle knowledge. When you see a commercial with an eagle vocalizing, it sounds pretty majestic. It's because they overdub the sound of a Red Tailed Hawk. The bald eagle makes a chuckling sound more like a turkey or chicken. It doesn't fit right for such a beautiful bird, so Hollywood fixed it!! @@yomamma.ismydaddy216 That's true too. I was explaining the sexual dimorphism of birds of prey as most people project our own species differences onto them and assume males are larger and more aggressive. I see "King of the Skies" so often it bothers me, especially since I find species with larger females (that aren't arachnids/arthropods) so interesting and I love learning about the selection pressures behind these differences. I assumed most people knew Bald Eagles aren't the largest eagle, so I didn't even think of mentioning it. Thanks for clarifying where I left off though. Did you know bald eagles have eyes that are 8 times sharper than ours?! They could literally see a rabbit from 3.2km (2 miles) away and spot fish underwater!
Their feet even have a grip that’s 10 times stronger than ours! This means they could lift a human baby or 24 billiard balls!
Bald eagles also build the largest nests than any bird. They can be up to 4 meters (13 feet) deep, 2.5 meters (8 feet) wide, and weigh up to 1 ton. They use the same nest for years and add new material every year. Some nests have been used for over 35 years!
(And their brains are as big as a walnut!)

Finally these majestic birds are coming back! I actually seen one in Pennsylvania farm land area. He was low enough to tell it was an eagle, the was pursued by a Chicken hawk I believe. He then shared way up to the clouds and started flying away. If only I had my phone at the time!
