The only difference with the video and what you said is that the one in the video is more clear and you can see through it whereas yours would be more just a white lower opacity effect (not hating just tryna explain)

Other way:
1. Get green screen
2. Go to text and put what you want set as watermark
3. Export video
4. Click on new project and click video or photo which you want use watermark on
5. Click on overlay and add the video of green screen you exported before
6. Click blend > overlay > adjustment: 100%
7. Next go to "remove BG" click "chroma key"
8. Put cursor on green part of screen
9. Click on "intensity" and adjustment: 100%
Your watermark is ready!
