- Hello! My name is Bethany and I grow things in my rooftop container garden in Chicago. In this video, I'll go over my plan to overwinter herbs indoors.
Annual Herbs:
Basil
Cilantro
Coriander
Dill
Parsley - technically biennial but treated as an annual for the best flavor
Perennial Herbs:
Oregano
Mint
Thyme
Chives
Lavender
Rosemary
Sage - If you live in planting zones 5 - 8, your sage will be a perennial. If you're in zones 9 and further south, your sage will likely be an annual.

I'm glad I found your channel I also live in Chicago so I'm glad you are covering the herbs I can bring in during the winter. We get some pretty interesting winters lol
We do! Last year was so weird bc I think we maybe shoveled 2 or 3 times and that was it.
Oregano, a perennial, will come back in the spring automatically in the ground. I bring my annual perennials in the house over winter and they bloom beautifully; I bring them back outside in the spring to enjoy (for a lifetime.) Julie 🌷
Great information on herbs! So glad to know that I can save my Rosemary as it has gotten huge this past season. Thank you. Love your videos!
I’m looking forward to having them indoors over winter to add some more greenery inside!
Yesterday I bought my first seeds!! Thanks for the inspiration
Even I bought seeds yesterday
Same pinch
That’s exciting! What seeds did you get?

I'm excited to see ur fall planning 🤩
Wonderful! I learned alot. Thank you for your knowledge 🪴
Thank you! I’m so glad it was helpful.
This was helpful 👍🏻
Thanks for the video, this is just what I was looking for. My tyme plant was in the ground and I moved it to a pot to bring inside. Is it necessary to bring inside or will it survive our Ontario winter outside?
Thanks for sharing those tips, I might have missed something, but do you use fertilizer for your plants, and if yes which ones do you use?
Thanks in advance!
I do! I use compost when first planting and then mostly use Fox Farm liquid fertilizers throughout the season!
Both oregano and mint will die back and come back...at least here in Ohio. I have mowed my oregano. So good luck.
My Basil has survived several UK winters. I cut it back to the ground in October
What variety of lavender are you growing? I am in zone 6b(I think) and had good success growing English Lavender in a pot left outside in the Winter. I moved last year and brought it inside where it did not survive the Winter.
I live in Zone 6a which is southern New England and I leave my Lavender outside all winter. I just cut it back and mulch around the roots and it comes back in the spring.
You reminds me of Kate bilo.
Shorts are so annoying. I can't disable them. I'm sorry I will unsubscribe. Too bad I liked the channel.
I go back and forth on how I feel about them. You might have an option under advanced setting to toggle to off for shorts for you, but it’s not a global feature since YT is pushing this format to compete with other apps.
