It’s Clips style but super elongated lol, which to me makes it ehhhh. It’s not intricate or smart to me, or at least the way folks claim his rapping is. It’s word association, which I don’t have a problem with, but making it so drawn out bores me.
It’s the same superstar/goat treatment you see in sports. Once you reach that level you can do no wrong to the fans, like when Lebron passes in the clutch and people say it was a cerebral move. Or when Curry does some dumb behind the back pass that goes out of bounds and fans praise him for his creative attempt.

But then I thought, I need to see this one without ANY crowd reactions, so I pulled up the Lyrics from both. Lux does the same LAZY word association ... He was literally saying that Geechi doesn't have a Surfboard. But since he mentions "Surf" ... It's supposed to be an entendre. WHAT FCKING SURFBOARD THOUGH? ... Why Geechi need one? ... The coldest breakdown or angle was Lux highlighting the correlation of the father/son dynamic between calicoe & blackface in relation to OG Bobby Johnson & his son in SOUTH CENTRAL.. From Cal battling Shotgun Suge.. To the son getting shot by a shotgun.. To the son following in his fathers footsteps.. Etc etc.. That’s where angling elevated.. & Lux angle on addiction vs hollow was way better than hollow breakdown of lux.. in my opinion

At a time when hip hop was in the streets more often it was an appreciated skill. However, it has sense been leveled to a way more poetic structure in battle rap so Mooks style will get critiqued if he overdoes it without adding more.

That’s a great perspective and good way to put it. Because I do think that word association/homophone wordplay can work if done properly. Lux is someone that comes to mind who does it very well. Nitty too. I think it needs to connect with whatever point you’re trying to make about your opponent otherwise it’s just a reference for the sake of making a reference. Personally I don’t like it when the rapper slows the word down and makes it obvious either. Lux says it quick and makes it more of a hidden gem
