In this clip, Onyx talk about their beginnings before the group formed. Fredro Starr revealed that he used to be a barber and had many celebrities in his chair, most notably Prince and Rakim. They discussed their attempts at solo careers prior to the group forming.
Fredro retold a story about one of their first tracks "Ah and We Do It Like This." According to Fredro, DJ Red Alert only played the lyrics to the track on the radio and gave the lyrics zero airplay. When Fredro bumped into Red Alert at a club to see why Red Alert told him bluntly that he just doesn't like the lyrics.

I grew up with onyx, everyone in brooklyn and queens and prob the bronx...fuck it all 5 boros used to fk w them. they were the shit. then when C.R.E.A.M came out it was over..the clan had flipped everything upside down and began a long reign of terror. I am glad they hooked up together for at least one track 'the worst.' I remember every class I had, all of the desks had the lyrics to cream on them written in pen
but as much as I love them, fredro is NOT a great actor. every movie I've seen him in, moesha, etc. he plays the same guy: thugged out, angry gangsta with a chip on his shoulder. he was like tupac lite in save the last dance. kind of how he is during interviews, always thug thug thug 24/7. but now age has mellowed him out a bit. and even humbleness? that's a stretch

Onyx got 4 hot albums. and 3 of them are classics. Their latest 2 werent all them, but they can bounce back. I believe in these guy, the 2nd album, All We Got Iz Us is the best thing that happened to hardcore hip hop.
