Fredro Starr detailed how Sticky Fingaz got into Onyx after recording a demo with just Fredro that he later gave to Jam Master Jay. After Jay heard the track, "Sticky Moves," he insisted that Sticky Fingaz be in the group, much to the displeasure of the rest of the group, who didn't want to split the money or spotlight with anyone else.
During the conversation, Fredro and Sticky Fingaz detailed making the Bacdafucup album, which had the most aggressive vibe of any hip-hop album up to that point. To hear more, hit the above clip.

DatBoy Cotvdotcom I believe that the era they came up in had a lot to do with the fact they don't get the credit they deserve.
In retrospective 92-93 was a time where a lot of legendary artists popped up and they got swept under the rug.
Slam was a huge hit but it's not very representative of what Onyx was about.
A lot of people know only Slam and automatically form their opinion based on that.
Fredro's starring in Moesha didn't really help their image.
Fact is these dudes were original, innovative and most importantly they can really rap.
Their second album is a must hear for any hip hop fan,that shit is simply psychotic guaranteed to fuck your day up. (And that's a good thing).
Sticky's solo album is amazing too.
They pushed boundaries with what you could say on record,i mean Sticky was fucking disgusting. Without Onyx You wouldn't have no M.O.P ,DMX ,Capone n Nore etc.

When they first came out w/ _Bacdafucup..._ Man, please. That album defined my life like no other. The energy behind it. Even thinking about it now is making me feel some type of way. 1993, my favorite year, musically. _Slam_ used to be my theme song for whenever my dad and I would go to the park over the weekend. Bike riding, baseball, kickball, etcetera. And then they came out w/ _All We Got Iz Us._ I believe that was/is an ill album as well.

BACDAFUCUP was the first tape I bought. I was 10
Great interview. Their second album "All We Got Ix Us" is one of the greatest hip hop albums of the 90s. Also, I like how they cleared up how their album wasn't just about robbing people because they touched on a lot of things. The good thing about Onyx is that they never were gangsters but they never really tried to come off as actual thugs. Sticky doesn't claim being a Decepticon and Fredro says he was a barber, which is really cool because that's real. A lot of other rappers will keep trying to fake it, especially after they're out the hood and can say whatever they want and not many people would know.
