Oh my goodness, what a great video and beautiful place you have. These are one of my favorite flowers and I have gotten starts from my moms. I am in northern Minnesota and have found the deer that we love to watch daily, love to eat the buds from the hydrangeas. So now we have to figure out how to deter the deer till the plants get bigger. Thank you for some great information. I will be coming back a lot to get advice from your videos.
Hey Kelly, you just gave me a great idea for a video on how to deter deer from newly budding hydrangeas . Here are some tips for now ... hang Irish Spring soap near the plants . the deer don't like the scent of perfumed soaps , play a solar powered radio softly near plants during the time of day they usually graze on your plants so they think people are there , spray a deer repellent on the leaves and buds . good luck . Thank you for the inspiration Kelly ! 😁❤️

I got my first hydrangea in 2019 and have become obsessed with them! I added 5 more last year & have plans for 8 more this year in my yard. In fact, I’ve already ordered 2 of them for delivery sometime in May. I’m a zone 3 on the Canadian prairies, so, placing my orders is helping me get through the winter! Next month I’ll order another 2.

I have an endless summer hydrangea bush and really love it! I live in NC. Also growing some red sunflowers in my backyard and the blooms are about to open up - can't wait! Please do some more videos on sunflowers too! Thanks for the great videos Kelly! :)
Hi Sarah , loved hearing about the blooms in your North Carolina garden ! 👏👏🤗🤗 I will definitely make more sunflower videos . You’ve inspired me to make one highlighting red sunflowers . Thank you 👍👍

@@KellyLehman We have a Hydrangea tree in our front yard that was planted as a Memorial for my father-in-law. I've been looking for directions on how to properly prune. Any suggestions?
Just found your channel! Wanted to know how to progagate my limelight hydrangea. I just learned a ton from you about how these gorgeous plants grow. I have always wanted a blue hydrangea as I love Cape Cod and admire their blooms. I'm in upstate NY and am excited to try Endless Summer! Thank you!
Hi Michelle, I plan on making a hydrangea propagation video soon. The way I do it is to find a stem close to the soil and dead head the bloom . I bend the branch until I can cover it with soil and then put a brick or rock to hold it in place . After a few weeks I usually notice that it has started to grow roots . There are lots of propagation methods though . Happy hydrangea gardening 🌸👏😊
I have a different question ! I looked up this thing called stink horn . What do you recommend ? It’s just in one part of my flower garden . I keep mixing the mulch (red) but it seems to grow in a different area
I live in Chicago, and have no luck with hydrangea's : ( I just planted a limelight and fingers crossed it will love its new place in my garden. I love your video's, thanks for all the tips Kelly!
Hi Peggy , welcome to our Flower Tribe! I’m sure you will love your new hydrangeas. I have a whole hydrangea tip series in this RUclips channel . Let me know if you have any hydrangea questions . 🌸🤗
love your channel and love hydrangeas!! always so informative and easy to understand. I'm in the Midwest. all my hydrangeas are in large pots and do very well 💗💗💗
Oh that’s so interesting that they are thriving in pots 👏👏👏👍👍 . Do you have any advice for growing them in pots ? I always have a hard time growing things in pots . I think it has to do with not providing enough drainage on the bottom and getting root rot . Are your pots super large with big drainage holes in the bottom? 🌸🌸🤗🤗
@@KellyLehman yes I use large pots with good drainage. I plant the hydrangeas (endless summer) in miracle grow potting soil, keep them watered and guard against heat and sun damage. I'm able to move them in areas where they will thrive due to being in pots. that's pretty much all I do, other than showing them love as I water them😇💗 going to plant some little limes for next year as I add garden beds along the side of my home.🤗🤗
I actually recently made a video on that topic ! Hope it helps 🌸 Gardening Hacks | How to Change Hydrangea Flower Color ➡️ ruclips.net/video/LVgLGwK_NWQ/видео.html
You have the most Amazing hydrangeas Kelly!😍. I would like to know what is the best method to change pink hydrangeas to blue or to purple? Also how long does it take for hydrangeas to change color and when is the best time to apply it? My soil is alkaline so all my hydrangeas are pink. Thank you for your advice on how to care for hydrangeas 😘💜💙💜
Thank you Isabel. Here is some information on how to change the color . I also have a few products listed in my Amazon shop that will change the color look under my fertilizer lists once you are in my page 😊🌸 Amazon.com/shop/kellylehman 🌸 How do you control hydrangea color? Hydrangeas are unique in that you can control their color. But keep in mind, not all hydrangea types are capable of color adjustments. Bigleaf hydrangeas, H. macrophylla, react to changes in soil pH. A low soil pH allows hydrangeas to absorb aluminum, which turns the flowers a beautiful blue color. To increase blue hydrangea flowers, lower your soil pH by adding sulfur or peat moss to the soil. You can also add additional aluminum sulfate to your soil throughout the growing season. Pink and red flowers shine when you add ground limestone to increase the pH. A soil pH test can help you accurately adjust your hydrangea color. Avoid pH levels above 7.5 to prevent damage to the plant. No matter what adjustments you’ve made, all hydrangeas will naturally fade in the fall. Don’t worry - the plant will showcase fresh, colorful blooms again in the spring. Wow.. Your doing an excellent job at keeping your hydrangeas looking beautiful. What fertalizers do you use please and how often. Mine are alot smaller in containers but are going green with pink on them with quite a few brown crispy petals on my Annabelles, which I think was down to over fertalizing. I'm using miricle grow premium soil but not sure if this is the best or wether to change it to ericoous compost? I'm from uk
Hi Kelly! Love your videos. I'm new to hydrangeas. I rescued a dying Summer Crush by Endless Summer. Should I pull the dead crunchy leaves off or the spotted brown ones? Also how soon. Should I expect blooms. I live in Philadelphia, Pa
Hi Holly , thank you for your kind comment . Sounds like a great hydrangea rescue ! Yes cut out all the dead crunchy growth . Hopefully you will get a few blooms this summer but sometimes they take a year of two to get established before the blooms start to pour in . 🌸😊
I planted limelights on our farm in PA this year. I'm a total garden rookie! Can you tell me 1. how/where to cut for a vase 2. how/when to prune? Thank you so much!!
Hi Emily, i like to cut my Limelights when they are in the semi dried stage in fall . I get the longest vase life from them that way . I don't usually prune back my limelights just a deadheading in early spring . You can however prune them back in late winter or early spring . The blooms come in on new growth .
@@KellyLehman If you just want a few(3) of them in peak season, will it affect the plant badly? On Cape Cod we get night thieves & some of them are greedy... lol
No Lace Caps? I live in CT and have had horrible luck with Hydrangea's. Had 5....only ever had blooms on 1. That and the deer like them too much. Had to spray them constantly to keep the deer off of them. Finally this year my remaining 3 ALL did not come back so no more Hydrangeas for this guy. Ironically I stumbled across your videos....I actually work for Hyundai and although I live in CT, the Regional Office I work out of is in Jamesburg. Been going there for 20 years and never knew your farm existed. Been working from home since March but if I ever do get back to the Regional office in temperate weather I will swing by to check your farm out. Enjoy the video's and tips.
Hi Michael 👋, oh wow .... what a small world . I need to plant lacecap hydrangeas , they are so beautiful. Have you tried hanging bars if Irish spring soap near your hydrangeas ? Deer hate the smell of perfumed soap . 🌸😁🤞
@@KellyLehman I tried that years ago and it was somewhat effective. Spraying is easier as if you have border plantings in many areas of the yard....that's a lot of soap to hang!!! Way easier to spray. Lacecaps are what got me started wanting to have some Hydrangea's. I was out riding my bicycle near the shore and saw two huge Lacecaps and almost immediately went out and bought a couple. Never bloomed once and in this the mildest of winters....neither came back (and I had had them for about 8 years.)
Hi Kelly ,I am from Canada ,I have endless summer for the first time and i was wondering if i should prune them in fall or spring or if at all Love watching your videos,

Hello Kelly, I'm so glad I found your page. You helped me realize that I have endless summer Hydrangea bushes. I planted my bushes about 4 years ago, and I didn't know what I was doing, as I am new to gardening. As I said, I planted three bushes four years ago. Sadly, I've only seen maybe six flowers in the four years since planting. This year 2020 I"ve seen nothing. I will say that I've been cutting them back each year, so maybe I have ruined them. My question for you is what do I do to get a lush bloom of flowers. I do have some of the food that changes the acidic level of the soil. I've been using that this summer, but nothing has happened. No flowers this year. I live in Minnesota. Please help! What can I do as the summer is closing to possibly have some flowers next spring/summer? Michelle
Hi Michelle , i would hold back on the pruning and fertilizers for this year. I made a few videos that discuss a number of reasons why your hydrangeas may not be giving you blooms . I hope you find them helpful . Here are the links WHY AREN’T MY HYDRANGEAS BLOOMING? ➡️ ruclips.net/video/4Bpe0uPKuZM/видео.html LUSH LEAVES BUT NO BLOOMS? I have a 1-gallon endless hydrangea pot that I bought in February when it was in its dormant stage and there were zero leaves on it. Now it has some leaves and it had one bouquet of a..... white flower with a skyblue middle circle (not sure what to call this part)... My soil acidity has been between 5 and 6. I kept adding the acidic fertilizer once a month. Do you think I actually got an endless summer hydrangea from the seller??? I picked some of the flowers and mixed it into a bouquet of white anabelle hydrangea that I got as a gift... The flower petals looked the same...
Hi I'm watching from Shrewsbury (Midlands), England. I have a lace cap hydrangea but I dont know the name. (I have photos), it is flowereing really well this summer. However, as I have it screaning my waterbutt on the patio it is quite shaded which is causing it to grow tall which is leaving it bare + woody underneath. I dont know how/when to prune so I get more blooms next year? It is pot grown, has large pink sterile flowers around the edges and delicate tiny pink flowers in the centre on dark stems with light green leaves. 🌺🙂
Since your blooms come in on old wood, make sure you don’t prune back after August or don’t prune back at all so you don’t risk cutting off next years blossoms . It sounds like your hydrangea is doing nicely since it is flowering really well. If you wanted to try to prune it back to seeing this gets rid of the Woody bare ness you see, I would prune back 1/3 of the plant before August so the plant has a chance to establish next years blooms . Happy hydrangea growing 😁
@@KellyLehman Thank you so much for your answer. I'll prune this bush back in the next week. As I'd like to enjoy the blooms once I cut them, are there any tips for using them as cut flowers please? 🌺🌝
I also replied this on your comment:) Hello! My Endless Summer is currently burnt because of the intense over 100 degree weather. They are lush in Spring and new sets of flowers in fall. PLEASE HELP. Summer is always sad in my garden. May I ask what to use to cover hydrangeas or a watering routine, or anything that you would provide that will not make them burnt. I am afraid to put something over them because it might be to hot for them. Anything to make them beautiful all year. Thanks!🌺
Hey there Ezekiel, I have a similar issues with a few of my Endless Summer that I planted in an area that does not get enough afternoon shade . If this happens to your hydrangea every year the best move is probably to wait u til fall and transplant it to an area that gets morning sun and afternoon shade . For now , make sure to deep root water your hydrangea at the base in the mornings . Don’t over head water or the leaves could get funky and don’t overwater . Check to see when the soil feels dry and then water . If the soil is moist , don’t water. You can also consider planting another taller plant such as a Limelight hydrangea that can tolerate full sun near it and place it in a spot that will provide the original hydrangea with afternoon shade . You can also consider placing a collapsible pop up sun blocker like people use at the beach for the super hot days . Hope these tips helped 🌸🌸
What do you do to keep your Limelights (or any hydrangea) from getting too leggy? I have a beautiful hedge of Limelights, about 20 feet long. They are about 3 to 4 years old. Last year and this year, they bloomed beautifully, lots of large, gorgeous flower cones, but they flop in storms and don't always perk back up. I'm thinking of cutting them back by half so they will fill out. Would you suggest this? Thanks!
I would cut back the floppy stems from this year ( wait until late winter to do this or early spring ) I would also keep the upright branches that look good in place . Any new stems that grow from where you primed should be long and will most likely give you giant flower heads in summer . However , these are the ones that get zonked by the heavy rain and flop. The buds that will grow closer to the unprinted branches should be smaller and my not flop as much . Good luck 👍🍀
I’m in Virginia and our summers can be brutal as this summer. My hydrangea is in front of my house. They get sun most of the day and it can be hot. In the spring they are beautiful but once the heat gets here They fry. Should I move them? Not sure of the name but they grow on old growth.
Hey there , sounds like your hydrangea may do better in morning sun and afternoon shade . Most hydrangeas that grow on old wood do best in those conditions . Happy planting 🤗😊🌸
My limelights are too large. How and when do I prune? They are white in the Spring, and now pink in September. I am north of Philly, for temps. Thanks. And, being a Jersey Girl (Trenton/ Allentown) I will make a point of stopping by your garden center!
No worries , I'll bet you still get blooms from the lower old wood branches .The best news is that you should still get gorgeous hydrangea blooms from the new growth stems that will start to bloom in late summer 💃🌸🌸🌸
Hello from Ontario. I was wondering if I wanted to cut some flowers off my hydrangeas. Would I get any flowers on them next year. Ide love to have some in the house in summer
Yes definitely cut some to bring in the house . I have loads of them in vases in my home. You can actually deadhead them as you collect the blooms for the vase . Here is a video I made on deadheading them . I am coming out with a new video soon on cutting them and arranging them in vases . Thank you for your super hydrangea question ! 👏 WHY YOU SHOULD DEADHEAD YOUR HYDRANGEAS ➡️ ruclips.net/video/yGdyKr4ITgw/видео.html
Just make sure you don’t cut any new buds that may be forming on old wood after August . These may be your flowers for next year if you have a hydrangea that blooms on old wood like Nikko or endless summer .
Sounds like they may have experienced winter zap . Here is a video explaining this . Hope you find it helpful WINTER ZAP - WHY ARENT MY HYDRANGEAS BLOOMING ? ➡️ ruclips.net/video/Q9t0uykceB4/видео.html
Hi, I have 3 type of hydrangea, in pots right now. I have north side of the house that don't get much direct sunlight. I have East side of the house that get morning sun. Which 3 types of hydrangea that I have would you recommend to plant them at? Please help 🙏
Thank you for your hydrangea question 👏. I haven't tried LA Dreamin yet . i see them more and more in garden centers though. I know the colors are very vibrant but i don't have experience with its seasonal performance. 🌸🌸😊
Sounds like you may want to consider a Limelight hydrangea . They are heat tolerant and can take full sun . You will still have to water when the soil at the base of the plant feels dry . Happy hydrangea growing !
Hmmm interesting . Any chance they could be an annnabelle, or a Peegee hydrangea ? if thats the case, i dont think you can alter the color . check these hydrangeas out on google images to see if they look familiar . good luck 😊
I don't want to sound too ignorant, but after watching the video I understand what the differences are in how to care for the different types of hydrangeas that you showed, however I still don't know how to tell the differences between the hydrangeas just by looking at them. Is the the color that tells indicates the difference, or something else? And how many different colors are there?
Hi Dan , actually this is a super hydrangea question that i get asked often so you are in good company . There are tons of different varieties of hydrangea in loads of different colors . If you type in the word hydrangea into the google of safari search bar and then select images , you will start seeing all the different varieties available and what their names are . I made a video showing the hydrangea varieties i grow here on my flower farm and list the names of each in this video Hope this helps to unravel the hydrangea name mystery . Great question Zena, some people love to prune their hydrangeas since it encourages new blooms and can revitalize a plant . However, there are some varieties that won’t bloom if you prune them back at the wrong time of year. I hardly ever prune back my hydrangeas and they come back year after year. I do how ever dead head mine to encourage more blooms . Here is a video I made on deadheading hydrangeas WHY YOU SHOULD DEADHEAD YOUR HYDRANGEAS ➡️ ruclips.net/video/yGdyKr4ITgw/видео.html
I’ll bet they are not spoiled . They should come back needy season . See what happens if you skip the pruning next year . I’ll bet you get blooms 👏👏👏🤗🤗
Thank you so much I am about to clear my small garden and incorporate these beautiful flowers mainly having taken inspiration from you. So excited. Would you recommend anything for soil etc when prepping to plant ? 😃
Hello again! Remember me, I asked what to do with my burnt Endless summer hydrangeas. Now may I ask how to change them from pink to blue? Right now there are no flowers.
Hi Ezekiel , yes i do remember you . Thank you for your hydrangea question . Yes you can change the colors of endless summer hydrangea from pink to blue or blue to pink by changing the alkalinity of the soil . There are products you can buy at your local garden centers or lowes or home depot that do this . Or you can buy them direct from amazon . here are some links to my amazon shop where you can find them To get pink hydrangea blooms - www.amazon.com/dp/B01N94B724?ref=exp_kellylehman_dp_vv_d To get blue hydrangea blooms - www.amazon.com/dp/B0063ZDQ66?ref=exp_kellylehman_dp_vv_d

We recently moved to our new home which had one hydrangea plant. When we moved in to the home the plant was very small. But once I started watering it, it got so big! The leaves are huge also. It started to get blooms but they were sporadic not a full head of blooms. I have no idea what happen!! I don’t even know what type of hydrangea plant it is.
Hi Ana , here are some reasons and videos explaining why you may not have blooms . Hope you find them helpful . 1. A cold Winter zap in spring that froze off new buds 2. Too much or too little sun or water 3. Too much nitrogen in your soil 4. Pruning them at the wrong time of year Here are a few videos explaining winter zap , pruning tips , and too much nitrogen . I have a new Pinky Winky and the blooms are turning into leaves and I'm not sure what's going on - I had a lace cap that did the same thing for 5 years, but ignored it until this year, and it's bigger and bloomier than ever now- my problem is I don't know what I did right because I threw the kitchen sink at it - blood meal, bone meal, iron, you name it - do you have any insight? I can't find anything online about partial blooms turning into leaves - It gets filtered sun throughout the day, right behind another 8x8 hydrangea and 30x30 azalea, watered daily with a soaker hose, 3 gallon planted 2 weeks ago, zone 6a
Thank you for your hydrangea question . I have feeling you are over watering and over fertilizing . If you give a plant too much nitrogen you will encourage lush green leaves but the strong nitrogen may inhibit bloom growth . Here is a video I made explaining this and how to fix the problem . I only started gardening this season (with an already established but boring landscape) and your videos have been very helpful and really nice to watch. Thank you!
Haaa , I know the feeling . Good idea to trim some back to let the sun in . I did the same with lots of mine this year too. So happy you found my garden channel . Love your comments and hearing about your garden 🌸😊
Definitely! I would choose a spot that gets morning sun and afternoon shade . Limelight hydrangeas and Annabelle hydrangeas tend to do better in sun . Good luck with your hydrangeas
Hi Joanne, the two dwarf hydrangeas that come to my mind are Little Lime ( a smaller variety of Limelight hydrangea) and BOBO . Both have white hydrangea blooms . Hey Kelly, you just gave me a great idea for a video on how to deter deer from newly budding hydrangeas . Here are some tips for now ... hang Irish Spring soap near the plants . the deer don't like the scent of perfumed soaps , play a solar powered radio softly near plants during the time of day they usually graze on your plants so they think people are there , spray a deer repellent on the leaves and buds . good luck .

Oh that’s so interesting that they are thriving in pots 👏👏👏👍👍 .
Do you have any advice for growing them in pots ? I always have a hard time growing things in pots . I think it has to do with not providing enough drainage on the bottom and getting root rot . Are your pots super large with big drainage holes in the bottom? 🌸🌸🤗🤗

@@KellyLehman yes I use large pots with good drainage. I plant the hydrangeas (endless summer) in miracle grow potting soil, keep them watered and guard against heat and sun damage. 🌸
How do you control hydrangea color?

Thank you for checking in from Connectitct 👏👍👋🤗🌎
@@KellyLehman I tried that years ago and it was somewhat effective. Spraying is easier as if you have border plantings in many areas of the yard....that's a lot of soap to hang!!! Way easier to spray.
Lacecaps are what got me started wanting to have some Hydrangea's. I was out riding my bicycle near the shore and saw two huge Lacecaps and almost immediately went out and bought a couple. Never bloomed once and in this the mildest of winters....neither came back (and I had had them for about 8 years.)

Michelle

Kelly Lehman, Thank you. I figured I’d gone to far with the pruning and the fertilizer. Fingers crossed for next year.

I also replied this on your comment:)
Hello!

Thank you 🌸🌸
What do you do to keep your Limelights (or any hydrangea) from getting too leggy?
@@KellyLehman thank you.

By accident I cut my top tip of my blu endless summer, is it going to bloom this year ?
No worries , I'll bet you still get blooms from the lower old wood branches .The best news is that you should still get gorgeous hydrangea blooms from the new growth stems that will start to bloom in late summer 💃🌸🌸🌸

Should I prune once bloomed in UK. Getting conflicting info 🙏🏻🇬🇧
I think I’ve spoilt mine ☹️
Great question Zena, some people love to prune their hydrangeas since it encourages new blooms and can revitalize a plant . However, there are some varieties that won’t bloom if you prune them back at the wrong time of year. I hardly ever prune back my hydrangeas and they come back year after year. I do how ever dead head mine to encourage more blooms . Here is a video I made on deadheading hydrangeas

Hi Ana , here are some reasons and videos explaining why you may not have blooms . Hope you find them helpful .

2. Too much or too little sun or water
3. Too much nitrogen in your soil

Sounds like an oak leaf hydrangea . They are beautiful! 🌸🌸👏👏
Good luck 🍀
