I've ran Mosquito Pass numerous times since I started four wheelin' over 40 years ago and it is my favorite pass. I love Leadville and that entire area. I also suggest visiting all the old, small townsites and mines concentrated in the rather small area on the Leadville side of the pass. I love watching you and Shanna on your little escapades. 😁
I love these videos you put out. Talking about the history of towns and trails. This is what sets you apart from a lot of the off-road/ builder RUclipsrs. Keep up the good work.
These have become my favorite videos of yours, despite no building taking place - Colt Tours It! 🤠 Maybe one time there will be a trail repair to do... 😅
Great video, I rode over this on a Triumph cycle in Sept. 76. It was a grueling but fun trip, never forgot how cold it was. Cool to see the old mills, glad they're trying to preserve them.
Colt you always share interesting anecdote and history on these trail runs. Admire the way you totally switched around things in your life and now we have this amazing content! Anticipating your next onX win! 💚💚❣️
Colt, thank you for sharing the local history, really appreciated it. Shannon... LOVED your joke.. I'm going to keep that one to share with my friends,,
Hello Mr. and Mrs. colt, my wife, and I really enjoy the both of you. We like seeing these field trips you take us on places will probably never get to go. We find it very interesting. But I was wondering where is the trail snack today? So far we’ve tried everything you guys have had on your trail outings must say you have good taste. We enjoy the trail humor. Look forward to seeing the next one. Marty and Sheri.
I find all of these videos interesting because for people like me that don't get outside of MN could see what the world looks like...... Very cool stuff Colt and Shanna..
My grandmother's brother... Uncle Bob Benson owned "The Continental Chief & The Maryanne" named after his wife. UB passed away from cancer, & willed the Mt ranges to my cousin Robert. UB lived in Leadville, we lived in Texas Creek, grampa had a 15k archer ranch & having a western filming studio 8-10 miles away.... there were a ton of actors who filmed at the ranch & I met alot of them. Lee Marvin called me sir lol. I was 2 but remember it all clearly. He rode my horse a flee bitten gray (X bronk) I named Trigger in the movie Cat Baloo in 61. I met Lee in 67-68 & he kinda followed grampa around as did I growing up. Not sure how or why but Trigger was like my babysitter, protected me & carried me all over the ranch moving , doctoring & checking cattle. I absolutely loved it. James Cobern was an ASx-Hoxx! Uncle Rory aka Roy Calhoun was my dad's buddy & a womanizer... seemed nice enough but always had a different woman with him yet married.... that country is amazing! Alot of lodge pole pine & beautiful aspen trees in certain parts. We owned a couple buisness when in Co, mom ran the nursing home & dad was into real-estate & a magazine subscription buisness. Traveling alot. Hence I would rather stay at the ranch than be at the nursing home lol. The things I can remember shocked my mom later in life because I knew things I guess young children shouldn't be able to. My horse allowed me to crawl all over him putting my own saddle on... I learned to laugh at myself instead of getting mad. I really believe children can & will rise to the occasion if allowed & taught. Check out pics of Lee on Trigger... leaning against the wall with his front feet crossed. PS he loved beer! Would lean against the side of our barn with his legs crossed sleeping in the sun. Was a wonderful childhood! Grampa put a dead cougar across my lap one day after wiping blood all over Trigger & Poncho's noses.... Trigger wasn't happy & walked sideways looking back at the cougar... heavy put my legs to sleep & smelled of urine but kept me warm up in the high country. Grandma made us strip b4 entering the farmhouse. Your drive brought back alot of memories! Thanks D
Don't know how else to contact you. I am 71YO and don't know about all the social media stuff. I am still on the Jeep BoH trails in S-Utah and Colorado as well as other FS and BLM trails. I love it. My wife hates it. I was 2/3'rds of the way into your last posting where you were giving an honest explanation of why you wouldn't continue with the oX build. I was PLEASED and surprised at your forthright honesty and your candid explanation of why you could not continue. I think you must have pulled back the curtains on what this ONX STUNT really is and got SHUT DOWN by the man. Is that why you pulled that video? So sad; I have OnX as well as a couple of other off-road trail mapping software. NONE OF THEM ARE PERFECT in every situation; which explains why I use THREE apps to accomplish my needs. As well as a simple compass and common sense!
Your video experiences are MUCH BETTER than that guy that toured all over Europe. Having your wife with you is great and we love her jokes! Haha We are dog lovers so we liked the "pet sitting" part. Keep up the good work.
colt, very interesting history lesson(s) when you do these trail rides along with the beautiful veiws. also thank your wife for the jokes i love them keep them coming girl!😃😃❤❤❤❤ would like to hear more jokes in your up coming videos!
Really glad you showed this one. Wanting to go to Leadville next year and I'm researching the area. Was interested in doing it but Larry because of reports that you need a lifted jeep on 40s to even attempt it.
I love watching the trail rides with you and Shannon! We tried just going up Pikes peak but at about 11,000 feet and my wife started having panic attacks so we came back down!
Love the content! I was raised in northern Colorado and know much of it's history. But southern I'm still learning. Currently live in NW AZ and that puts me in a good place to explore southern Colorado. Thanks for another great video!
Great video. I was almost late leaving for work this morning because I was so intently following along. A Frame houses are very practical in heavy snow areas because the roof can hold a lot of weight plus it sheds most of the snow so the weight doesn’t build up.
The electric motor reminded me of growing up in Iowa in the 70's and 80's. Janda electric motor repair commercial catch line was "make no mistake, this is a big one".
My grandpa drove his CJ5 up Mosquito Pass in the 60's. The trail was slow and brutal (they didn't air down in those days). When he got to the top there was a VW microbus. It made him question everything. 😂. Growing up in Leadville, we didn't know the South Park kids were just over the mountain but they were just like us.
Cant imagine driving anything without fuel injection and power brakes up that and back down, i had a k5 blazer and sometimes on steep inclines it would die looosing power brakes and steering got wild a few times.
@@timothycarey3883 I do not regret upgrading to a Holly Sniper, but I'll keep the manual trans, hubs, and TC. 31's are huge clout in my book. You obviously know how to pick a line.
Back when Jeeping was just becoming popular in Colorado in the 60’s a newsman by the name of Carl Ackers did a travelogue on his show called “Denver to Durango the Hard Way” which included Mosquito Pass and several others. It would be interesting to see someone do that again, maybe in the opposite direction. It’s awesome country for sure.
Great fun, sure would have liked to see them, but your vids will have to do! Designed & built quite a few A frames, decades ago, certainly could give y'all some ideas, knowledge can be free... Thanx !
I haven’t been up there since the 1980’s. The last time I had my girlfriend and her daughter and I would always go from Alma to Leadville. I had a 1974 F-100 4x4 with a 428 punched and built. The last time over I cracked the rear axle where the tube goes into the pumpkin. Found a shop in Leadville and they welded it enough to keep it from leaking. I found a piece of quartz with what looked like gold in it. I asked a miner in Clear Creek Canyon and he wasn’t sure if it was gold but he offered to buy it. 😁 Are any of the towers still up for the tramway? I camped on one of the grassy areas in a switchback and watched an Australian bring his rental car up until the snow drifts stopped him. He informed me that all rental cars are 4 wheel drive. 😁
Really nicely done. You channel David Attenborough, or someone similar, very well. Lucky for us where you live now has great history set in amazing locations. Ever been to Chaco?
Two thumbs up ferr u two CruzzIng a O.P.S Trail (ole pop smokers ) those trails are wat i grew up doing and the Best way's to spend the day with family&Dogs !! And a shout out to Mom with shorts and sandals 💐 and the Wonder mutts running !!
On a recent trip to Colorado and doing a bunch of the passes, a discussion of how did the miners know where to mine. I said the mines that had a small amount of tailings were like exploring and probably no gold was found and they moved to another site. Would that be accurate? Great videos!!!
Colt I thoroughly enjoy your tours. One question or request, I have a full sized truck, 2024 Tundra, would you mention if a full sized truck can do some of the trails? Or which ones you wouldn't take one on. As always, many thanks for your content. I've learned a lot.
Some of those mountains and valleys are pretty desolate. Still kind of pretty but just rocks and scrub brush for the most part. If there are wild flowers It might be real pretty in the spring after some rains. I lived in an A frame for a few years. basically a 1 bedroom upstairs and it was so steep going up and down the stairs it felt almost like a ladder. Main gripe I had was the wasted space on slanted walls on the sides.
Colt I thought that you were a builder. Never realized that you were a tour guide. You do an excellent job as either

@@timothycarey3883 😄😄👌, yep. Seems that was part of the fun. With EFI, lockers, and big tires, trails that used to be hard become kinda boring.
