    It is true that on like round 300 the ddts are so fast they teleport past permaspike so you need to set it to normal so the spikes are more spread out

      They don’t teleport but they are faster than the damage can be dealt so they pass through before all the damage from the pile is used up, and normal targeting doesn’t change this, it only changes it so the ceramics pop slightly earlier (if the ddt pops)

      Somewhat knowing how Unity (the engine used to create BTD6) works, I'm pretty sure the computer calculates the DDT's previous position and the positions it theoretically would have gone without generating a frame where the DDT actually gets hit by the spikes. Not too sure about this one, tho, never tested.
      For the record, like the previous reply, they do not teleport, they, as you mentioned, are just so damn fast lol

    I compiled the list of balance changes to Spike Factor from Version 35 onward. Here you go:
    *(Nerf, V39) All Spike Factory spikes no longer can damage bloons for exactly 1 frame after being created from the spawning origin
    *(Nerf, V36) Spiked Balls pierce reduced from 14 to 12
    *(Buff, V35) Spiked Mines explosion radius increased 19 to 30
    *(Buff, V37, V40) Spiked Mines spikes pierce increased 12 to 18; also affects Super Mines

    On Version 39, the MOAB Bonus was increased to +9 for all 3 of the middle primary path towers, so that is simply a dialed back buff. Cooldown reduction for Spike Storm can be a bit obnoxious to be sure, though. Lifespan is something I haven't taken TOO seriously. Price increase for CoS can be bothersome, but $2000 isn't an insane amount by the time you can afford it. CoS's main attack damage was actually 3 before Version 31, and was just random efficiency against Super Ceramics if you ask me, so I can live with it being sent packing. CoS pre-V31 also had a base attack cooldown of 0.98s, so having the base attack rate be reduced from tripled to doubled makes sense too. And CoS did still get a Pierce buff that can help bottom path given how it's still giving up DDT control. So I'm not too bothered by the balance changes when we still have something playable. Of course, I do think that if anything, M/B Spike Factory does need to be looked at for buff ideas to give it better Round 98 performance, not M/T being zapped for trivializing DDTs and the BAD.
    I can especially point to this balance change making Version 37 as the benchmark Version to keep in mind:
    *(Buff, V37) Spiked Mines napalm DoT damage increased 1 to 10
    This is why Challenge ZFMXCAF would have become possible as early as Version 37. For context, this is a Challenge where only Etienne, Spiked Mines with Smart Crosspath, and Camo crosspath options with towers that aren't exactly paragons against Leads are available. The most important thing is the Spiked Mines usage, because the 30 total Damage from the burn effect is invaluable especially for Round 63, even with the explosion's Pierce nerf in the same version. Hit a pre-R81 Ceramic once with an explosion not too late into the track, and it's straight up dead with no further attacks needed. This is ultimately the final piece of the puzzle that is Round 63, as UCAV won't cover all 3 clusters and is even needed for the first 2 because of all the Leads, and the Black Bloons will further force the other activation uses just to poke those things and not leave the UCAV undermined. Now the Burn Damage can only add up if you hit different targets because it doesn't stack on the same target, but Ceramics tend to be fast enough that targeting the same position is bound to achieve results, so it still helps into the 80s and 90s. And if you're wondering, I like to target Smart to stockpile mines and then target Far or Close when bloons come by the locations covered by those. Long story short, FINALLY Spike Factory is better incentivized to be in an offense position for methodical attacking, and Striker Jones post-V41 becomes happy for this.
    Where I'm going with this is how this is the sort of reason why MOAB SHREDR specifically has been left alone overall, because it actually has been undertuned and it has reason to care about Smart Spikes Targeting thanks to the MOABs' children not even caring about blimp bonus damage, so it's already supposed to be better for earlier in the track. Spike Storm is basically Flood Killer Activation: The Tier 4 Tower, and Carpet of Spikes still favors top crosspath a good deal and has that break Rounds 90, 93, 95, 99, and 100 utterly with that. Still, there's a reason why I simply suggest for Smart Spikes to provide its own activation of setting off the speedup, so that Spiked Mines and MOAB SHREDR can actually benefit from the crosspath and the added micro option reduces demand of the player to babysit the Smart Spikes Factory as well. Oh, and yes, move the speedup introduction to Long Range at a nerfed amount to make that upgrade more worth the bother while also reducing description bloat.
