The last 1U rack mounted UISP piece of equipment is our build is the WDM filter. It's not a crazy device and it has no logical configuration but it does allow us to have a single fiber distribution system.

I understand the use case for this if you are trying to migrate from GPON to XGSPON, but if you're starting out new, why not just standardize on XGSPON, skip the coexistence filter, and just provision the CPE to run at a reduced speed, then in the future you can offer faster speeds without having to manage two sets of OLT's and swap out CPE?

Cost maybe. GPON equipment is generally cheaper.
